Part 2 Chapter 5 - Diana
I knew that I wouldn't be able to convince Mark or any of the others to let me travel to Arthur's pack alone. That was the reason I didn't bother to ask. Instead I went straight from Mark's office to the garance, I took one of Elijah's cars and started to drive. I would be at Arthur's pack before nightfall, that would be when the hard part started but I didn't want to think about that right now.
I had spent the last hour or so listening to music as I drove in an attempt to clear my head. It didn't work but at least it was better than driving in silence, this road was eery enough without that. Arthur had chosen a pack that was pretty much in the heart of the forest and the roads on the way there were thin and winding. Just like they would be in a horror movie. I was expecting some mysterious creature to jump out at me every time I went around a bend.
Onyx growled in frustration within my mind. She knew we were heading straight into the territory of our enemy and she wanted to go in with claws and teeth rather than with me driving a car. She was going to have to get over her discomfort because I wasn't willing to risk Elijah's life by acting so impulsively.
'At least my plan doesn't involve us walking into energy territory defenceless,' she growled even louder.
When I reached an area of dense woodland a couple of kilometres outside of the pack's territory I stopped the car. There were no landmarks or distinguishing features nearby but I needed to find a place to hide the items I needed for the spells. I couldn't risk Arthur seeing them so I couldn't take them into the territory. They would need to be retrieved later.
Wandering a few metres into the forest I found an area where there were a group of trees which were different to the others around them. As far as markers went, this was pretty poor but in the absence of any other options I had to take it. I tied the bag to one of the higher branches of the tallest tree to make sure that nobody would stumble upon it, before heading back to the car and continuing on my journey.
I didn't make it much further before I was stopped by a small group of Arthur's pack members. From their movements I knew right away that they were being controlled just like he had done with my pack members. If he was so paranoid that he controlled members of his own pack in this way then taking him down might be harder than I had anticipated.
Trying to push those thoughts away, I stepped out of the car and moved towards the people in front of me. There would be plenty of time later to worry about the details. Right now I just needed to focus on getting into the pack without incident.
"Welcome to your new pack, these men will bring you to me." All of the controlled pack members spoke together as one. No matter how many times I have seen Arthur do that, it wasn't getting any easier to watch. It still sent chills down my spine each time it happened. Even so I got into the back of my car and allowed them to drive me towards Arthur.
I could see Arthur's home way before the rest of the town started to come into view. He was basically living in a gothic castle, complete with towers and a fucking moat. It looked like the kind of place a vampire would love but I couldn't imagine a pack of werewolves feeling comfortable here. I could only imagine that he would choose to live in a place like this because he was paranoid and unstable.
'You have only just worked that out? I thought you were meant to be smart.' Onyx interjected.
I held back my laughter and quickly blocked her out before she could say anything further. Normally I would have enjoyed her jokes, even if they were at my expense, but right now I needed to focus. I couldn't mess this up.
The sun was just beginning to disappear behind the trees as we pulled up in front of the castle. Arthur was standing by the door waiting for me with a huge grin on his face. Seeing him smiling at me as though he had won filled me with the almost overwhelming urge to punch him in the face.
"I'm so glad you made it here in one piece."
He held his arms out towards me. The thought of him laying his hands made me feel physically sick but I swallowed that feeling down along with the words I wanted to say to him. I forced my feet to carry me across the gravel until Arthur pulled me into his arms and held me. His body was so close that I could feel the heat coming off him.
"I know you don't really want to be here with me but once we bond together you will feel differently about it." He whispered in my ear while refusing to let go of me.
"I want to see Elijah." I mumbled.
"Soon, first I need to show you around your new home."
He spun around so he was standing beside me then led me towards the house, making sure to keep one of his hands on the small of my back. I followed his lead but I wasn't quite able to hide my shudder of disgust. Arthur must have noticed my shudder, he was standing too close not to feel it but he didn't say anything about it.
The castle was huge but Arthur didn't show me around all of it. He showed me the kitchen, dining room and living areas then he led me back to the entrance, over to a large staircase which swept across the centre of the hallway. "Now I will show you to your room." He said, causing me to stop dead in my tracks.
Was he planning to take me to his room to force me to bond with him? A cold chill travelled down my spine at the thought. I wasn't ready for him to try to mark me, I needed more time, a lot more time so I could prepare to make my move. "I'm not going to mark you tonight, I would rather you weren't thinking about another man while my teeth are in your skin." He shook his head as though the idea was adherent to him. I guess now he knew how I felt about the idea of breathing the same air as him.
"I will give you tonight with your mate but in return I expect you to spend all day with me tomorrow." He concluded before he started ascending the stairs again, dragging me along with him.
We had already climbed two flights of stairs. Arthur was breathing heavily even though I estimated that there would be a few more flights to go before we reached the top floor. It was good to know that he had been neglecting his physical fitness somewhat, maybe that was something I could use against him later.

I was still contemplating this piece of information when we reached the top floor of the building and started heading down one of the corridors. I could tell which room he was keeping Elijah in instantly, it was the only room which I had seen being guarded so far.
He walked me right up to the door of Elijah's room before leaning in closer and kissing my cheek. The urge to hurt him rose within me once more, this time I was only narrowly able to stop myself from punching him in the jaw. If he did anything like that again then I wasn't sure if I would be able to hold myself back.
"I will send someone to collect you for breakfast in the morning." He informed me before unlocking the door and opening it.
Elijah was standing in the middle of the room. The moment I saw him, everything else just faded away into the background. Before I knew what I was doing I was halfway across the room and throwing myself into his arms. Behind me I could hear the sound of Arthur locking the door behind me while I kissed Elijah. By the time he pulled away from me we were both breathless.
"You shouldn't be here." He panted.
"That isn't exactly the greeting I was hoping for after coming all this way to rescue you."
The kiss was nice but I thought he might be a little more appreciative of my efforts.
"I didn't mean it like that, I just want you to be safe and as far away from Arthur as possible." He said before pressing his lips against mine once again but this time he didn't hold back.
