Part 2 Chapter 3 - Diana
The books my mother wanted me to read were duller than any of my maths textbooks, they were harder to decipher too. If I wasn't convinced that my mates life might be saved by the information in one of these books then I would have thrown them out of the window by now.
The problem was, I still didn't have a clue how I was supposed to use the information in these books to get my mate back and defeat Arthur. Most of the sections I had read so far talked about how to effectively protect my mind and how to control the minds of others. Maybe once I had finished reading the remaining passages then I would be able to formulate some kind of plan for my attack. But at the moment I was still clueless.
"Well this section is useless." Felix complained. He closed the book he was reading through and rested his head in his hands. He looked thoroughly exhausted despite the fact he had only been here for a few hours.
Mark decided to help Ryker and I early this morning but it took Ava a while to convince Felix to follow his lead. Also, just because he had eventually agreed to help us didn't mean that he was happy about it. He had spent most of the last few hours complaining and talking about all of the things he would rather be doing.
"That is because you are looking in the wrong book." Mark said, without even looking up from the book he was reading.
"You knew I was reading the wrong book and yet you didn't bother to tell me." Felix groaned.
"It was the first time in hours that you were quiet. I was making the most of it." Mark told him. The rest of us burst out laughing while Felix mumbled angrily to himself.
"This whole thing is useless. We are never going to find anything useful in these books. We should stop wasting our time and come up with a new plan." Felix complained. I rolled my eyes.
If there was a viable plan to invade Arthur's territory and take Elijah back then we would be doing that right now. I wasn't spending my time reading these infuriating books because I wanted to. None of the other plans that we came up with seemed reasonable.
Using the vampires to help us was a good plan when Arthur hadn't been expecting us, but we didn't have the element of surprise anymore. They would be prepared for an attack now, if we were to succeed under these circumstances then we would need many more vampires to support our cause.
As it was, we didn't even have half of the vampires on our side as we did a couple of days ago. Many of them didn't want to become involved in a long fight, even more of them refused to fight unless Ryker accepted Jayne as his mate. As he wasn't willing to do that they were refusing to help us in any way. However, they had insisted on staying nearby so they would be here when Ryker changed his mind.
They clearly hadn't taken any time to get to know Ryker because if they had, they wouldn't be so cocky. Ryker was stubborn and he had made it clear on many different occasions that he had no intention of ever accepting her. If anything he hated her more now than he did when she rejected him. He didn't like the way she was basically trying to blackmail him into accepting her.
He had spoken to her a couple of times since Elijah was taken. She apologies for what she did to him and practically begged him for forgiveness. He didn't give me the details of their discussions so I didn't know what she had said to upset him, but he made his feelings abundantly clear. He would rather be alone for the rest of his life than spend it with her.
"Have you given any more consideration to Jayne's suggestion?" Mark asked, before frowning at Ryker when he didn't respond in any way.
"Well it was worth a try." Mark mumbled.
"I think I might have something here." Ryker said, continuing to ignore Mark.
He pushed the book he was reading over towards me with a huge smile on his face. It was open to a section about mate bonding. At first I was confused. I had already bonded with Elijah so I couldn't understand why Ryker was showing me this. That was until I started to read the passages.
It quickly became clear that Hex werewolves didn't bond in the same way as normal werewolves. In addition to sex and biting, I would have to perform some kind of spell with Elijah in order to completely seal our bond. Once I had done that, I wouldn't be able to be mated to or have children with anyone else.

It meant that if I could somehow perform this spell, then I would be useless to Arthur. I wasn't naive enough to believe that he would just let me go once he worked out what I had done. But it would mean that he wouldn't be able to force me to accept him or bear his children. At least that was something.
The problem would be getting the ingredients for the spell into Arthur's house without him noticing. I am sure that it would be too much to ask for that he wouldn't recognise what the ingredients were for on sight. He wouldn't let me in with them and they weren't exactly the kinds of items that you would normally find in a normal kitchen.
"That's great, but how am I meant to get all of this into Arthur's house without him noticing?" I asked. As I was speaking Ava pulled the book over and started reading it, Felix and Mark were leaning over her shoulder to read along with her. "I could bring it to you," Ryker suggested.
"What?" That was the most ridiculous suggestion I had ever heard. Arthur would notice him approaching and take over his mind, then he would know what I had planned. It was a worse plan than me trying to smuggle the ingredients into the house in my bra, which was the only thing I had come up with so far.
"You can go to him and while he is distracted I can sneak into the house. Once I am inside you can direct me where to go until we can perform the spell. Afterwards we can coordinate our attack with the others."
Ryker looked so proud of himself for coming up with the plan, it was almost a shame to have to tear it to pieces.
"He will know you are there before you get anywhere near the house." I replied. I left the rest of it up to his imagination, there was no need for me to go into the gory details.
"Not if you bind your soul to mine. If you bond with me and we do that spell then I will be immune to Arthur's powers." Ryker replied, smiling at me.

Felix growled at him as he got to his feet and marched over to where Ryker was sitting. He pulled him out of his chair and glared at him as though he wanted to end his life. I probably should have done something to break them apart but my brain wasn't functioning properly at that moment and I couldn't even force myself to move. Was he really suggesting what I thought he was suggesting? "My brother has been gone for less than a day and yet you are already trying to steal his mate from him."
Felix's anger was so intense that his alpha aura was leaking out and making everyone without alpha blood want to submit to him. Ryker was trying to stand up to him but I could tell it was difficult for him to resist the urge to bare his neck to him in submission.
"I'm not going to break their bond. She will be bonded to both of us unless you can think of another way to do this without him controlling me." Ryker wasn't normally this cocky or belligerent, I don't know what had brought about this change in him but I wasn't sure that I liked it.
"She doesn't want you in that way, the bond makes it impossible for you to want anyone other than your mate." Felix shouted. I think he was planning to say more but he was distracted by the sudden sound of Ava's chair scraping across the floor as she got to her feet.
"Yet you managed to sleep with half of the women in our school year while you felt our bond." She shouted at him before storming out of the room and slamming the door behind herself. Felix gave Ryker one last warning glare before running after his mate.
Once he was gone I got to my feet and started heading for the door. I needed time to think of a solution to the Arthur problem that didn't involve making Ryker my mate. There might have been a time when I would have considered him as my mate but Felix was right, I just didn't see him that way anymore.
As I was leaving the room I glanced over my shoulder one last time. The pain was clear in Ryker's eyes as I left him behind, but what was I supposed to do? I couldn't just take him as my mate because I knew he had feelings for me, it wouldn't be the right thing to do. There had to be another way.
