Chapter 31
Ava and I told Elijah's mom all about ourselves as we got changed into our party dresses and applied each other's makeup. We spoke about our hobbies and our preferences for music and films among many other things. Ava looked great, she was wearing a knee length black dress that hugged her curves perfectly. I had helped her pick out that dress myself on one of our shopping trips but I had never expected that she would be wearing it to impress Felix. Elijah's mom had picked out my dress. It was a long flowy dress with a wide neckline designed to display Elijah's mark for the whole pack to see. It was also in the pack colours of Teal with a grey sash at my waist.
It wasn't my favourite colour but Elijah's mom thought that having both me and Elijah wearing the pack colours would send a strong message. I had a feeling that this had a lot to do with the Fuller pack's presence tonight but I wasn't complaining. I was looking forward to standing by Elijah's side tonight as his luna. Even though the whole pack probably knew about us, it was our first public appearance together.
"I am so glad both my boys found their mates, I was worried about both of them although for very different reasons," Elijah's mom said as she put the finishing touches on her own makeup.
"Why?" Ava asked.
"I was worried that Felix's behaviour would push his mate away. I guess it nearly did," she replied, giving Ava a comforting smile.
"Why about Elijah?" Ava asked, trying to change the subject. My heart started racing, did I even want to hear this?
"I was worried that he would spend his whole life waiting for a mate that he would never meet. I feel bad for thinking that way now, you are so perfect together," she said.
'Does that mean she didn't want Elijah to wait for us?' Onyx asked.
I could feel her pain at the thought of Elijah taking someone else as his mate. There was no need for her pain however, not only had Elijah waited but he was ours now. There was nobody that would ever take him away from us. "Now all I need to know is when I can expect grandchildren," Elijah's mom asked.
Ava's eyes went wide in shock.
"I was planning to at least finish school first," I replied without missing a beat.
I may not have been brought up as an alpha's daughter for most of my life but I knew how this worked. As an alpha's mate the future of the pack was on my shoulders. The second I accepted Elijah as my mate I knew there would be pressure for us to produce an heir. It wasn't something I was against doing but I wasn't in a rush to get started either.
"Same as she said," Ava replied, her skin had gone pale and she looked like she was going to be sick.
"That is a shame," Elijah's mom replied.
She was adjusting her hair while she looked in the mirror in the ensuite bathroom. She seemed to be completely unaware of the stress she was putting Ava under.
"You know, if you did get pregnant you wouldn't be alone. We would help you with the baby," Elijah's mom continued.
Ava still looked as though she was going to be sick but now she was fidgeting nervously. I couldn't read Ava's mind but I didn't need to, this was moving too fast for her. She was still trying to build a relationship with Felix, she wasn't ready to even think about children yet.
"We should go, people are expecting us," I said.
I led Ava out of the room and down the hall to where Elijah and Felix were waiting for us. Elijah looked absolutely gorgeous, it was almost enough to take my breath away. He was wearing a grey three piece suit with a teal shirt. His hair was tied back neatly and his shirt was slightly open at the collar so I could see my mark clearly on his neck.
"You look so beautiful," Elijah said as I closed the distance between us.

"Thank-you, you don't look so bad yourself," I replied. He pulled me into his arms. He was smiling at me and I could feel his love for me flowing through our bond.
Elijah kissed the top of my head then let go of me. He linked his arm in mine and let me towards the middle of the house, where the party was situated. If the sounds were anything to go by then the party was already in full flow. There were so many voices, I didn't even realise there were that many people in the pack. What if I wasn't capable of leading this many people? I spent my life keeping as far away from others as I could so how was I supposed to be a good leader?
Elijah pulled me closer to him, so close that I could feel the heat of his body as we stepped out into the lobby. Everyone stopped talking as soon as they saw Elijah and I.
"I would like to introduce you all to your new luna, Diana Quintrell," Elijah was looking into my eyes lovingly as he addressed the pack.
"I hope that during the course of this evening you will all get to know her a little better," he continued.
"To our luna,"
I glanced in the direction of the person who spoke. I didn't recognise them but they were raising a glass of champagne in our direction and smiling.
"Our luna," Everyone around the room cheered and raised their glasses.
My cheeks started to heat up. Everyone was looking at me and I wanted to bury my head in Elijah's chest but I couldn't do that. The eyes of the pack were all on me and I had to show that I was a strong, capable luna. "Thank-you," I said. I smiled as I glanced around the room at the people in front of me, my pack.
The people drank from their glasses and returned to their conversations. Slowly the room started to fill with the noises of hundreds of different conversations and I started to relax once more.
"There is someone that I would like to introduce you to," Elijah said.
"Ok," I replied.
Elijah smiled at me then led me through the house and out into the garden. He walked us towards an area of the garden that was suspiciously empty. In the corner there was a man standing by himself with a glass of champagne, looking up at the moon.
I could tell even from a distance that there was something unusual about this man but it wasn't until I got closer that I could tell what it was. This man was a werewolf, I could sense his wolf but he was also something else.
"I would like you to meet my beta, Mark," Elijah told me.
"It's nice to meet you but I wonder why Elijah didn't introduce us sooner," I said, shaking Mark's hand.
"I think he was worried that you would be frightened of me like the rest of the pack," Mark replied. "Because you are a vampire?" I asked.
I hadn't met many vampires but the smell was unmistakable. It was rare for a vampire to turn a werewolf and it was even more rare for the wolf half to survive the conversion. Rare but not completely unheard of. "I guess I didn't need to be worried," Elijah replied.
"No, I have a feeling you luna is....." Mark stopped abruptly. His whole expression changed and his nostrils flared, his eyes were scanning the crowd wildly.
"Mate," He growled as his eyes landed on a man who was walking through the large double doors into the garden.
