The Lost Female Alpha

Chapter 12

Elijah mostly smelt of the first after a heavy rain to me but there was also a faint smell of roses. I didn't think anything of it at first but as I was talking it reminded me of my mom. She always used to wear a perfume that smelled of roses. Now even all these years later I still found the smell of roses comforting.

I had been trying to work out the code based on the smells that I liked now, that was why I was struggling. It made sense that the code would be something I liked while my parents were still alive. This had to be the answer, it seemed so obvious now.

I ran all the way from the hall to my house and straight up to my room. Ryker, Christian and Kerry watched me running up the stairs with interest but they didn't make an attempt to stop me. I could only imagine what they must be thinking. Once I was in my room I closed the door and sat down on the floor in my closet. I worked out the numeric code which would correspond to the word rose. I typed it into the keypad and turned the handle. The door swung open and I sighed in relief.

I stuck my hand into the safe and pulled out the contents. There was a handwritten letter, an old map and an antique jewellery box. I put the box and the map to one side and opened the letter.

The letter was signed at the bottom by my mom. I was holding a letter written by my mom. I could feel my tears pooling in my eyes before I even started to read the words. I sniffled and rubbed my eyes with the back of my hand. Dearest Daughter,

I hope that you never have to read this letter but unfortunately we have a power that makes some of our kind want to use us and others want to kill us. There is so much I want to tell you about our power and your heritage but I can't risk moving the documents. The documents are hidden at the place indicated on the map. The volt can only be unlocked using the two keys hidden in our house (one is in your room the other is in the basement) and your blood. Inside you will find everything you need to know to understand yourself and unlock your full potential.

Now that your powers have been activated the others will be able to feel your presence and they will be coming for you. The necklace that I have put in this safe will make it harder for them to find you, you must wear it against your skin at all times.

Love you always, mom.

I put the letter back into the safe and picked up the map. It was a map of my parents pack's territory. There was a mark on the map in the middle of the town at the same location as one of the larger buildings on the map.

I was too young to remember much about the village where I was born but the building that was marked out didn't look like a house. It looked like some kind of town hall but I guess I would know more when I went there.

I had already decided that I was going to go there. It was just a matter of when. The alpha's party on Friday might be the perfect opportunity. The rest of the pack would be busy so nobody would notice my absence. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to get away.

I locked the map back up within the safe and turned my attention to the last item, the jewellery box. The necklace inside was beautiful. The pendant was a clear crystal which had strange symbols carved into its surface. It was attached to a gold chain long enough to fit comfortably around my neck.

I assumed that the symbols meant that some kind of spell had been cast on the necklace. I had never studied magic so I couldn't tell what the spell was meant to do, I couldn't even read the symbols. Maybe Ava would know, she had always taken an interest in magic. It was a shame that I couldn't risk going to her with this.

I put the necklace on. I didn't feel any different but that didn't mean much. Most magic was untraceable unless you knew what you were looking for. I stroked the pendant, it was strange to think of my mom touching this stuff and putting it in the safe for me.

"You managed to work it out." Ryker said.

He was standing in my room. He was smiling at me sweetly but his eyes were full of lust. It was only then that I realised I was still in my skin tight exercise outfit. Sitting down on the floor with my back to the door like this was probably giving him a great view of my ass.

I stood up and walked towards him suddenly feeling very self-conscious. I never usually felt self-conscious.

"I did." I replied.

"That is great." He said.

"What are you doing in my room?" I asked. Feeling slightly uncomfortable.

"I couldn't stop thinking about our kiss earlier. I thought we could continue what we started." He said, licking his lips and took a few paces towards me. I shook my head.

"I can't." I said. Taking a step back and putting some distance between us.

"Why not?" He asked.

There was a pained look on Ryker's face. I hated hurting him like this but I wasn't going to cheat on my mate. Elijah hadn't rejected me yet and until he did I wasn't going to do anything to betray our bond. That isn't the way I did things. "I met my mate Ryker." I said.

"Liar." He said.

"I am not lying." I replied.

"If you met your mate, why is he not here with you and why don't you have his mark on your neck?" He said.

Ouch.

He could tell his words had hurt me. I could see in his eyes how much he didn't want me to be hurt. He took a few more steps towards me. I backed up until my back collided with the wall.

"If I was your mate I wouldn't have hesitated to claim you. If he is hesitant then he doesn't deserve you." Ryker said, adding to my pain.

'That would be because you had a breakdown and ran away. If you had let him explain himself then you would be in his bed getting some right now.' Onyx said.

"It didn't exactly go well." I said.

Ryker took a couple of steps towards me. He rested his hands on the wall to either side of me.

"If he doesn't want you then you should just reject him and be with me instead. I might not be your fated mate but when your mark is on my neck, that won't exactly matter." He asked.

He turned his head away from me, exposing his neck to me. It was almost as though he expected me to mark him right now. That wasn't going to happen.

I shook my head.

"Just think about it." He said. He blew me a kiss before walking out of my room. Leaving me alone with my thoughts and my grumpy wolf.
