Chapter 362 The Charles Family
Joey rushed out of the hotel excitedly, and she realized that it was already late at night. If she went to the Charles family at this time, it would only arouse suspicion. After thinking for a while, Joey had better go back to the hotel.
She had a sleepless night.
The next day, at Joey's request, Allen took Joey back to the Charles family.
George, who had returned from drug rehab abroad, was not there, and that Paige and Lillian were the only people at home, apart from their servants.
Paige was combing Lillian's hair when Joey entered. She didn't look up at Joey. Allen had told her that Joey was coming, but she didn't like it.
But three-year-old Lillian stared at Joey with her big, unblinking eyes. Joey smiled kindly at her, but Lillian turned her head away like her grandmother Paige and gave her a blank look.
The smile on Joey's face froze. Even the child in the Charles family were hostile to her.
Allen realized that the atmosphere was not harmonious and tried to ease the tension, but Paige didn't look at Joey at all. Allen insisted on bringing Joey home. Paige couldn't stop him, but Paige wanted to keep her attitude, because she wanted to make it clear to Joey that it was fine to come here once in a while, but it was a dream if she wanted to marry into the Charles family.
Joey didn't come here for an argument. After sitting down for a while, she told Allen that she wanted to visit William.
When Allen took Joey to William's room. The old man lied on the bed, skinny; his eyes were dull and his mouth was drool. Joey couldn't believe what she saw.
William was so energetic four years ago, but now he was so weak. Joey's eyes suddenly got wet with sadness. She thought of Sharon and wondered what Sharon would think when she saw William like this. Maybe it would add to her hatred to the Charles family.
Joey wanted to talk to William. Unfortunately, William didn't respond to what she said, because William had been suffering from Alzheimer since he got a stroke. Now he was like a living dead, and the rest of his life was waiting for death like this day by day. "Joey, don't be so sad. Grandpa has lived his whole life with great passion and love. He deserves it."
Allen gently hugged Joey, who was holding back her tears. He deeply understood how sad Joey was at the moment, because his pain was even worse.
William had always been Allen's idol. In Allen's mind, William was far more noble than George. However, people would grow old. Seeing that William was dying, Allen was the one who wouldn't accept it most.
"To have lived and loved. William has lived his true life!"
Joey pondered on what Allen said, but she couldn't help thinking, "Allen, would you be so calm if you know it was your parents who made William suffer so much?""
Maybe what would a regretful life!
"Allen, I'm going to the bathroom."
Joey didn't are to tell the truth. Allen shouldn't bear the responsibilities his parents had caused.
Joey made an excuse to go to bathroom, but she didn't really go to the bathroom, instead, she sneaked into George's, Paige's, Martha's, and Lawrence's bedrooms and took all of their personal belongings, like lipstick, scarves, socks and, finally, she took away Lillian's hairpins.
That was the main purpose of Joey coming here today.
Down the stairs, neither Paige nor Allen was in the hall. Paige must have pulled Allen aside to have a talk. Lillian was the only person sitting on the couch.
Joey walked over, smiled and said softly, "What's your name?"
Joey knew Lillian's name, of course; she was just trying to find a topic with the kid.
Lillian stared at her with wide eyes for a moment. And then, without answering, she grabbed a glass of juice in front of her and handed it to Joey.
Joey was a little shocked and then smiled, "Are you asking me to drink the juice?"
Lillian nodded in agreement.
"Thank you!"
Joey didn't have any doubt. She took it with a smile and took a sip.
Joey didn't want the child to think she was hard to get closer to, because she was likely to be living with Lillian for the rest of her life, and if she could, she wanted to get along with Lillian.
But as soon as the juice hit her throat, Joey knew something was wrong.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
