The Lengthening Shadow

Chapter 33: The Lost Treasure

Jake leaped into the underground chamber. Here had been the gold and jewels hidden four hundred years ago. The Maow frantically dug through the horde until he found what he needed.

“I’ve found it! The Ring of Rhonâe!

It was a small ring, silver with sapphires embedded in it and the words Never To Fall, the motto of the House of Evenir, engraved along the inside. He held it up for all to marvel at. This was the symbol of absolute power in Greenbloom Forest. Vi’lle conjured large chests out of midair and the animals started packing the treasure to take back to Fernwood.

Samuel felt the weight of a crown and gasped. “This must be worth at least a million diamarnd!”

Vi’lle did some quick calculations. “Three million, two hundred twenty-six thousand, three hundred and ninety-four diamarnd, actually.”

“This could buy Arvand!”

“Not actually. Archdeacon Laburnum is very shrewd, and would not trade Arvand for money. It’s a good power base, with the strongest navy in Certaria. I would not attempt to buy it.”

They heaved the chests up and decided to stay the night in the Bluff until they could go back the next morning. After all, its threat was over.
