Chapter Chapter Twenty
Providence Rhode Island
Tempest was silently fuming as he gazed at the map of the country. It had been hours and there was still no sign of the Silver Child’s aura. It was almost as if she wasn’t in the country anymore. Tempest knew that that was impossible. None of the other maps he had had any silver glows on them as well. The last he had seen of the silver light was in the middle of nowhere in Connecticut.
According to Nyarlathotep, there had been some sort of hotel at that exact location that had been created specifically for Powerful Ones and anyone who carried the blood of Powerful Ones in them. It wasn’t there anymore though. Nyarlathotep had reported that Coalitcue and Shub-Niggurath had killed the Powerful Ones present and destroyed the building.
Tempest didn’t think that the Powerful Ones were strong enough to shield the Silver Child’s aura. Silver and Golden Ones were supposed to be the most powerful magical beings in the entire world. It was why they were always connected to prophecies.
Tempest thought about the Old Ones. The time to release them was quickly approaching but unless he had the Silver Child with him, he wouldn’t be able to free them. The girl’s magic was the key. Artemis’s descendants were the only ones who had the power.
Tempest tapped his map. “Where are you Silver Child?” He asked quietly as he closed his eyes. He had to think of where else the Silver Child could have gone. If she was still with Carver, Carver would have taken her to some safe place. Tempest knew it wasn’t at Neptune’s temple or Poseidon’s temple. He had already checked the maps of Italy and Greece. Tempest thought there was a chance that they had gone to the Underworld where Carver’s uncle Hades resided but he didn’t think Carver would be cruel enough to take the girl to the place where her mother’s spirit was.
Tempest opened his eyes. There was no way Carver would be neglecting Tora like that. Tora wanted her mother back. Carver would be wanting to help the girl who was like a niece to him as well. Tempest looked at Connecticut. Unless Carver had already gotten to Providence, he would be in either Connecticut or Rhode Island. The question was where though.
Tempest knew that there weren’t any ancient magical locations in either state. Just locations of folklore and urban legends. He needed an actual ally. He smiled There was one immortal he could call on. He looked at Exeter. It was just a half hour away from him. He could easily go there and call upon the immortal for help.
Tempest left the room. “I’m heading to Exeter.” He told one of his bodyguards. “Keep a close eye on the prisoners. Make sure no one disturbs the house while I’m gone.” He didn’t wait for his bodyguard to say anything. He left the house and went to his car. If Carver had an immortal helping him out, Tempest would have one of his own.
Exeter, Rhode Island
Tempest parked his car in the small parking lot by the Baptist Church before he got out and looked around. There was no sign of anyone nearby. That was good. It would make his job a lot easier. He didn’t want anyone to see what he was about to do. He went up to the entrance of the church and waved his hand at the door. It unlocked and opened.
Tempest went inside. The place looked just like he remembered from the last time he had been there. He walked across the small church to the other side. Had he been a mortal man, he would have been terrified of the dark secret the church held. He wasn’t scared though. He knew what he was getting into. He waved his hand at the floor behind the pulpit. The floor shimmered before it revealed a locked wooden door. The door unlocked and flipped up.
Tempest went to the opened door. He saw the long staircase that disappeared into the darkness. “Flamos.” Tempest said. Several torches appeared as fire appeared on the walls leading down into the darkness. Tempest started walking down the staircase, fire lighting his way as he walked further and further down.
Tempest soon reached the bottom of the staircase. He could hear shrieks and screams. He smiled. The immortal was still locked down here. That would make this a lot easier. He walked down the hallway to another wooden door. Tempest opened the door and walked into a large stone room. The only thing in it was a large cage that had spikes all along the ground on the bottom of the cage. Inside the cage was a woman bound in chains dangling over the spikes. The woman was the one screaming and shrieking.
“Seems like Nichallo did his job like he always does.” Tempest said, causing the woman to stop screaming and shrieking. “Tell me, how long have you been trapped there my dear.”
The woman glared at Tempest. “Since Eighteen-Ninety-Two.” She replied in a raspy voice. “When those fools did as Nichallo asked and locked me down here for his mistakes.”
Tempest shook his head. “Nichallo has always kept people in the dark about the lives he took.” He said as he thought about it. “Your mother, your sister and your brother. All dead because of who they served. Your poor father was the only one Nichallo spared because he didn’t know the truth. You though, you got it worse.” He looked at the cage. “Nichallo locked you away in here as he poisoned your brother and then removed your heart and liver to make a “tonic” for your brother before keeping you alive as punishment.”
The woman continued to glare at Tempest. “What is it you want?” She demanded. “No one has come here since Nichallo and his apprentice locked me away down here. Why are you here?”
Tempest smiled. “Straight to the point I see.” He said. “It’s quite simple. I have Nichallo and the Golden Child locked away. He has a new apprentice though and this new apprentice has somehow hidden the Silver Child away from me.” He let that sink in before he continued. “Now you know who, or rather what I am. An immortal like you knows these things even if she is locked away for so long. What I need is for you to help me find the Silver Child and to bring her to me.”
“Why would I help you?” The woman demanded. “What has anyone ever done for me?”
“Help me and I can help you get your revenge on this entire town.” Tempest replied. “The descendants of the people who violated your body for their superstition deserve to feel your wrath.” He could tell that he was getting the woman on his side. “I have Nichallo locked up. Help me and you can also get your revenge on him as well.”
The woman struggled against her chains. “Release me and I will help you.” She told Tempest.
“Time to give Nichallo Mercy.” Tempest said as he waved his hand at the woman’s prison, causing the spikes and the chains to vanish.
The woman landed on her feet and hissed, baring her fangs.
