Chapter 28 by Ebony Woods
Evelyn POV
“Your mate?” I ask through the mind–link. “Yes, I can smell her scent. It’s here in the house! It’s a new scent.” “What does it smell like?” I sniff the air, all I could smell was Reuben’s sweet leathery scent. “Lemon drizzle cake…”
“Lemon drizzle cake?” I laugh through the mind–link. “I don’t know, it’s lemony with a touch of sugar.” His cheeks start to blush.
Shouldn’t I be jealous? I didn’t feel jealous at all. Not like I was when Vicky placed her hand on Reuben’s shoulder. I wanted to twist her wrist and hear it snap for touching him. A jealousy rising within me like a volcano preparing the explode.
It must be more of her than of Reuben. My hatred towards her, my wolf confusing intense dislike for jealousy. (1
“Each of my alphas have been informed and are going to report of any unusual activity, should they find any.” Reuben walks in followed by Nate and Donnie forcing me to cut mine and Noah’s mind–link conversation.
“What’s wrong?” He looks at me with furrowed eyebrows.
“Nothing, do you have someone new here?”
“Only Cassandra why? She’s on loan from the Blue Moon pack to help Michelle around the alpha home.”
“The Blue Moon pack?” I stand up, flabbergasted that they were still liaising with the Red Stone pack. I was confident in my approach to Alpha Ivo that he no longer needed to deal with the Red Stone pack. So why did he send help for the alpha house if they were on bad terms.
“You stole them, it’s the least they could do!” Vicky enters, rolling her eyes and huffing at me.
My blood kept boiling every time she entered the room, every time I heard her clicky high heels.
“Do you want to meet her?” I ask Noah through the mind–link.
“No…” He responds instantly.
“Nows not the right time.”
“Then it’s time to leave.” I stand, placing my hand out to Elspeth for her to take.
“We will head back to our pack. If you hear of anything, let us know immediately!”
“Your leaving?” Reuben takes a step towards me and Elspeth.
“I can help, let me help…” He mutters under his breath.
“Reuben if she wants to go, let her go! I don’t see why we need to use our resources for the enemy’s lost boy!” She sneers as she perches herself up against the side of his desk. (1
She was vile.
“He isn’t lost, he was stolen!” Noah seethes through gritted teeth.
“Whatever…” She waves her hands at Noah as if it was just a small tiny detail.
“Stay for one night, if we receive any news in the night you will get it instantly. Otherwise you won’t get it until the morning and it will be too late to act on it!” Reuben offers but I hesitate, I never thought I would be back here. Let alone staying the night.
I look to Noah who just shrugs, basically letting me decide.
“You can have your old rooms, they are still available. You can…” He clenches his hands into fists and takes a deep gulp.
“Share them together, the three of you.”
“I don’t know…”
“I’ll get some clothes fetched for Elspeth…”
Things were changing rapidly, I didn’t really know how I felt about staying here overnight, returning to my old rooms. Knowing she and him shared a room.
“Véry well…” I nod my head, agreeing only for one night.
“Vicky go tell Michelle and Cassandra to prepare the room!” He orders at Vicky and she flashes her eyes at me. Oh yes, talking to the help was below Vicky.
I couldn’t sleep, not without my sweet boy close by. Elspeth was sharing the bed with me and Noah had said he would do some more research as I settle Elspeth and then sleep on the floor in
the bedroom.
Miss Smith and the warriors had been put up in the spare pack houses and I had got a message to the Silver Moon pack to update them with our overnight stop.
I head downstairs, wanting to know if Noah had found anything of importance.
I find him with his head asleep on the kitchen table, laptop wide open. It was 3am, he must have been so tired and thought he could push through the night again.
“Noah?” I gently try to wake him up.
“Hhhmm?” He moans in his sleep.
“Noah, go up to bed!”
A floor board creaking behind me makes me turn on the spot to find a female standing in the
doorway.
“I’m sorry Alpha, I didn’t mean to disturb you!” She softly apologies. She must be Cassandra.
“You haven’t….you must be Cassandra?” I try to wake Noah up again by brushing hair away from his side temple. Cassandra growls at me from behind. I instantly hold my hands up to show her I
meant no harm.
“Have you spoken to him?”
“No, I’ve been avoiding him.” Her face flushes as she looks down to the ground with a frown.
“Yet you couldn’t sleep!” I smile sadly at her. She wanted to keep her distance, yet was tiptoeing around the house at night to get a glimpse of him.
“I’ll make you some hot milk!” She offers and I don’t argue, hot milk sounded quite comforting right now.
I hadn’t been eating, or drinking much for that matter since Rex was taken. I was living on survival mode and had lost any appetite I might once of had.
Noah seemed adamant he wasn’t moving from the kitchen table so I decided to leave him. He’ll have to rest in the morning while I take over research. I go to turn off the laptop when I see a new email delivered at 2.39am, unread!
I open the email to find only a few words…come alone, with an address.
Very discreetly I take my phone from out of my trouser pocket and take a picture of the address. This could be where they are keeping Rex, I have to go, I can’t not.
I creep up the stairs and very carefully pick Elspeth up from off the bed. I carry my sleeping daughter downstairs and, under the confused watchful eyes of Cassandra, lay her over two chairs, resting her legs on Noah’s lap. As soon as he wakes up he’ll see her and know she is safe with him. I know she is safe with him, otherwise I wouldn’t go.
“Cassandra, when Noah wakes tell him I went to the address in the email and I’ll contact him as soon as I find out more.”
“Alpha?” She shakes her head at me. “I’ll be fine. Tell him to not let Elspeth out of his sights.”
“Alpha, I don’t think this is wise.” She chases after me down the hallway.
“Someone has given an address, I have to go…it could be where my son is. If we both go, Elspeth will be alone. I can’t cope with that…please.” My eyes start to tear up, as I plead with her to let me go.
“As soon as he wakes up, I’ll have to tell him…and the alpha!”
