The Legacy of the Alpha King: Hiding his Secret Twins

Chapter 21 by Ebony Woods

Noah POV

We had an increase in expecting mother’s of late, especially with the alliance and the new members using her medical facility. I was proud of how state of the art it was, how well Evelyn and I had done in securing equipment that was highly desired by other packs.

The midwives were overrun and I had offered to help out overnight especially being a full moon. There was something about she-wolves going into labour around a full moon. I had been up all through the night and I had assisted with the birth of two new babies that were doing well and now resting with their parents.

“Beta!” Donnie walks over to me as I walk tiredly through the courtyard towards the alpha house I needed food, a hot shower and some sleep but Donnie’s fast paced movement towards me informs me I might have to wait

“Beta, a letter has been sent for the Alpha”

I’m not sure why this is news worthy, Evelyn received letters every day.

“It’s from the Red Stone Alpha!” Donnie announces as he places the envelope onto my hands.

“Who delivered it?” I inspect the envelope, turning it over to make sure there wasn’t any signs of being tampered with or anything vicious about it.

“The beta Nate, he informs me that he was tasked with hand delivering it himself and made me swear I would deliver it directly to the Alpha.”

“Very well, we will take it to her together.” I hand him back the envelope so that he can give it to Evelyn directly, as he swore he would do.

We walk into the alpha home where I had my own rooms. Evelyn did offer me a beta house but I wanted to be near the children, near her. She had spent the past four years trying to be a soldier, heartless…cold. The revenge deeply savaging away at her, her hatred all but eating her flesh and

bones.

It was her two little ones that kept her alive, kept her going and I promised myself that for her, I would protect them as a father should.

Reuben must have believed she was dead all this time, it would explain his wolf’s reaction to seeing her. He briefly thought he was seeing a ghost, until his anger took over.

“Alpha?” Donnie calls out, bringing me out of my thoughts.

“In the office..” Her growl replaces her once sweet melody that had been more frequent of late. “Alpha, we have received a letter from the Red Stone Alpha!” Donnie places the envelope down on her desk. She looks at it at first as if it might explode before her very eyes.

“Who delivered it?”

“The beta….Nate!” I reply as she opens the envelope, a smirk soon erupting on her beautiful face

“What is it?”

“Donnie, could you leave us please!” She commands

“Of course Alpha

After Donne leaves the room and closes the door behind him, she starts to run the letter through

her fingers as she rereads it.

“He is reminding the Silver Moon alpha that I am legally bound to him in a marriage contract and must be returned immediately. The fact that the alpha has sheltered me for so long might be construed as an act of political defiance and will be met with hostile retaliation if I am not

returned.”

I watch her as she starts to laugh at the letter before her.

“He’s unbelievable! Using legal means to claim me back.” There is a slight forced chuckle to her delivery of that sentence.

“What do you want to do?”

“Nothing, he won’t do anything. If he does, then I will call upon the ally packs to increase our numbers.”

Candice POV

I watched as Alpha Reuben left the pack grounds. His visit had stirred up fear amongst the pack members and I could feel Milo’s anger at me through our bond for meeting with Reuben alone.

The growl that emitted from Reuben’s chest when Milo kicked open the office door was a sensation I hadn’t missed since leaving the Red Stone pack.

He knew Evelyn was alive. But he only knew about the daughter, he never once mentioned the boy. He tried to ask me questions about the Silver Moon alpha but I kept deflecting.

For some reason Evelyn didn’t want him to know she was actually the alpha and that she had two children with Noah. Or so she claims.

To me they had the same colourings as Reuben and held no resemblance to Noah. Especially the boy, he was just as confident and conniving as Reuben. Where as Elspeth took after Evelyn. If I stayed and baked more cupcakes with her I was in danger of never leaving. She was adorable and incredibly innocent.

“That could have gone worse!” Alpha Ivo states, blowing out a deep breath of air.

“What does he know?” He gestures for me to walk with him around his front gardens.

“Only that Evelyn is alive. He doesn’t know that she is the Alpha.”

As soon as Milo and I returned from the Silver Moon pack we had updated our alpha with all details. I did fill in the gaps that Evelyn was in fact the luna from the Red Stone pack but we assumed she was dead.

“Alpha, would you like a refreshment in the gardens?” One of the alpha household staff members

asks. 1

“No thank you Cassandra.” He responds to the red headed she-wolf as he takes a seat on his garden bench.

“I need to do the boundary rounds soon” He continues.

“Let me do that Alpha, I’ll report back to Milo. You relax.” I offer, he was a lovely man. He had taken me under his wing completely, not having any children of their own. He fought to keep Milo, for me to transfer from the Red Stone pack. Without having an heir I think he hoped Milo would take on the position one day.

“Thank you Candice. I’m now concerned that it will come back to bite us that we knew Evelyn was the alpha…”

“Perhaps but we will handle that when the time comes. Maybe we should send a gift? A good will gesture. We could ask if Cassandra would support the Red Stone alpha household in my absence. They haven’t managed to replace me yet. It would be a peace offering and although she would be too far away for our pack link to work, she could keep any eye out for us. Yet wouldn’t be accused of being a spy!”

“Only if Cassandra is happy to do that. I wouldn’t want her to feel uncomfortable with the idea.” He sighs, he was ready to retire really. But to the outside world he was still revered and not to be messed with. It’s funny how a pack can give off a different image to that actually experienced internally.

“Perhaps I should pull out of the Silver Moon alliance agreement?” He thinks out loud, watching birds pecking for worms on the green lawn.

“Whatever you think is best alpha.”

Everything seems quiet between the Red Stone and Silver Moon pack. We have received no reports of any escalation in conflict between the two alliance leaders.

Cassandra was happy to go but asked if she could only commit to a month at first, she had heard rumours of the Red Stone Luna.

I had to remind her that Vicky wasn’t the luna but seemed to act like it and that she did need to watch her back slightly. Vicky hated me so much that she went out of her way to accuse me of breaking ornaments in the alpha home, expecting an angry reaction from Reuben. But he wasn’t the same since Evelyn left, he put on a good front for others but I knew him better than that.

It had been a week since Cassandra left and she messaged me to say that she was ready to poison Vicky’s food. She mentioned that poor Michelle practically cried when she introduced herself as house help sent from the Blue Moon pack.

I was jogging back to mine and Milo’s beta home which resides opposite the alpha house on the main pack square with kid’s play equipment in the centre.

I was in desperate need of a shower, I was sweating all over. I didn’t really train at the Red Stone pack once I got a position in the household but as soon as I joined the Blue Moon pack, Milo instantly enrolled me into training.

In fact, he went harder on me than any other female in training, because I was his wife and the female beta.

“Candice…where are you?” Milo’s panic filled voice enters my mind.

“Near home, why?”

“I need you to lock yourself in at home and don’t come out until I am back.” He demands at me through the mind-link “What’s happened?”

“The Silver Moon pack has put the alliance on alert, they’ve been attacked!”
