Chapter 157 by Ebony Woods
Reuben POV
My hand was squeezing around his throat, my fingers holding the power to end his life.
“You don’t want this.” His voice barely audible, only just enough for me to hear him.
For him to die, oh yes this was years over due.
“You aren’t strong enough…” His eyes flare as I tighten my squeeze even more. What were these words, cheap party tricks? He was never an honourable alpha. He’ll do and say anything to survive.
As I continue to stare into his eyes, I blink thinking I am imagining things. A black shape darts across his pupil, for less than a second. I must have been seeing things, some kind of trickery of the light still shining off from my phone.
“Do it…I don’t want it anymore.” He growls at me in a low tone.
My wolf comes forward, a warning to proceed quickly. He knew as did I, that Odin was just trying to stall for time.
He’s never once allowed himself to appear as anything but strong and in control. Why now? Why show some kind of weakness, what was he playing at.
He can’t live, I know this in my heart. I hated him, but I wasn’t a monster like him. I wouldn’t kill someone without cause, for just a character clash.
No, he has always been a monster, for as long as I have known him.
I’m just grateful that Mum’s blood runs through my veins also.
He posed too much of a threat to the peace of our community. He has to go. There was no other way.
With a fast thrust, my hand punctures through his chest, pulling at his heart. My eyes remain on him the entire time, I need to make sure he actually passes, I won’t believe it unless I see if for myself.
I won’t take any chances, not when it comes to Evelyn and the children.
I take my time removing his heart, I want him to feel as much pain as possible. Call me vindictive but this man wasn’t the father he could have been. The father I will be.
Once his heart is disconnected from his body I dump it on the floor, his lifeless body falling to the ground.
How fitting to kill two alphas tonight in similar ways. Both cowards, both heartless…and now they are. Evelyn raises the Red Stone silver sword he used to take a swipe at her.
She stabs it through his heart, her own closure pushing at me through the bond. She’s been through so much, at the hands of Odin and Vicky.
I was already the Red Stone pack alpha and the king of the alliance, his departure from the pack happening years ago. So there was no alpha to alpha title passing at his death.
But I feel something click inside of me… some kind of feeling in the deep depths of my soul. Something I can’t explain.
“Reuben…are you ready?” Evelyn’s hand lands on my shoulder as she squeezes it gently with reassurance.
“Yes sweetheart…let’s get the fuck out of here.”
The threat to her life and my children’s was eliminated.
She would be more at peace knowing the man that would have mated with her by force to take both alliance is dead. The man that should have protected his own blood decided to try and use it to gain power again. He would have killed me, taken my mate and raised my son as a killing weapon, if he had kept him alive.
We walk out of the cave together, my hand not leaving her lower back once. He was dead but something still irked me about that cave. As if we weren’t alone.
“Nate…his body is in the cave. I didn’t want Evelyn to touch him…”
“Of course Alpha. I’ll fetch him now.”
My beta starts to walk into the cave, but I have a feeling that I don’t want him to be alone.
“Take men with you, don’t go in alone. No funeral…burn him.”
“Yes Alpha.”
I don’t know if I feel any happier knowing that Nate has warriors with him now…something felt off.
If Evelyn wasn’t with me I would stay, but I wanted to get her out of here, get her back to her pack.
