Chapter 14 by Ebony Woods
Evelyn POV
It was later that evening, we had enjoyed our pizza takeaway dinner and having given the kids a bath, they were now fast asleep.
I was sitting back at my office desk, preparing myself to make that call. The call that had been plaguing my mind throughout dinner.
“Do you want me to call him?” Noah asks from across the desk, having been sitting patiently for several minutes just watching me.
“Thank you, but it has to be me.” I say with certainty as I pick up the phone and dial the number. After a few rings a gruff male voice answers.
“Yes?”
“Alpha Ivo?”
“Yes?” His grunt reply came, I really wasn’t the first female to call him recently.
“Alpha, this is the Alpha of the Silver
Moon pack…”
I am greeted with silence.
“I wanted to discuss your recent pack communications with us.” I push realising I need to be the more articulate of the two.
“I’m confused, I was under the impression that the Alpha handled the communications regarding the Silver Moon pack?” He clears his throat at first, before engaging further with me.
“Yes I am the Alpha.”
“Right.” His uncertain voice came down the phone, as I placed it on speakerphone so that Noah could listen in.
“Alpha Ivo, I am the Alpha of the Silver Moon pack and you are now on speakerphone with my beta. My call isn’t to catch you of guard but to ascertain the reason for your recent declining of my proposal?” My voice is firm, steady, that of an alpha.
“Alpha…my apologies…Yes I received a phone call from the Luna of the Red Stone pack threatening the safety of my pack should I move away from the Alpha King’s alliance treaty.”
So she was his Luna. It sounded like she needed to work on her pack PR skills.
“That is the precise reason we have set up a new alliance. Unfortunately the Red Stone pack will never change, I have myself witnessed their true crimes. I’m not calling to put pressure on you, just to keep the communication open…for you to know you do have a friend in the Silver Moon pack. I can offer protection, I can offer warriors from our group alliance. Why don’t you come and see for yourself, see how well we have progressed?”
“Oh no, I couldn’t do that, he’ll be watching my every movement now. He’ll have scouts out to watch me.” His anxious tone was visible even though it wasn’t a virtual call.
“Okay, is there someone else you could send…your luna perhaps?” I shrug at Noah, trying to think of an alternative option. The Blue Moon pack was well respected, many would start to follow if I could secure Alpha Ivo’s pack into the alliance. I had met him before at one of the Red Stone Moon conferences, he was always surrounded by his fellow alphas.
“No I wouldn’t risk her safety. But my beta could come with his mate. They haven’t been off grounds yet, I could pretend it would be for a short getaway for them both. That shouldn’t arouse too much suspicion.”
“That sounds like a reasonable plan.”
“I would need to know your exact address?” He asks in a matter of fact tone down the phone to me.
I look to Noah with slight trepidation, this was my pack to protect, my people to keep safe. Was I ready to open us up wider to the outside world?
“Before I do that Alpha Ivo, I need your word, alpha to alpha, that my identity as the alpha will remain hidden. A female alpha remains off grid for a reason.”
“Yes of course Alpha, you need not worry…I wouldn’t disclose your identity.”
“Thank you.”
I had put a lot of faith into the Blue Moon pack and I hoped Alpha Ivo wouldn’t let me down.
He had promised not to reveal my identity even to his beta, in case they were intercepted during their journey. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Red Stone pack would stoop to such a level.
We had spent the next few days preparing for the impending visit from the Blue Moon beta and beta female.
They were to stay in the alpha house which again took a lot of faith from my part, but I couldn’t expect trust from them and not give it in return
I was alone in my office, Noah and Miss Smith had taken Rex and Elspeth out on their bikes to burn off some energy. I don’t know where they get it from… they were like little balls of energy that kept going until their heads literally hit the pillows at night.
“Alpha, the guests are here. Donnie announces through the pack link.
“Thank you Donnie, can you escort them to the main living room, I won’t be long. Can you offer them some drinks until I arrive?”
“Very good Alpha, yes of course.” Donnie’s response enters my mind until he cuts the link.
Around ten minutes later I had successfully cleared most of my emails, only leaving some pack accounts to .action.
As I exit my office, I could hear Donnie in a conversations with a male in the living room, the beta.
“Alpha!” Donnie greets me as I enter the room.
“Thank you Donnie. Welcome Beta.” I greet the Blue Moon beta who has frozen in a state of shock, still remaining sitting on the sofa. A loud clearing of Donnie’s throat encourages the beta to stand and address me correctly.
“Alpha. I do apologise, I didn’t realise…” He blinks out of his trance as he tries to get used to seeing a female beta. He was short for a beta, but I imagine he was fast and agile in a fight.
“Not many do. I trust your journey wasn’t too vexing?” I look around, I was expecting the female beta too. Until I hear the plumbing in the bathroom, the beta female using the facilities already.
“No, not at all. Sorry…I’m staring.” He blushes as his mouth remains open at first.
“You are, but its fine.” I muse back, I had better start getting used to this. I was a female in a male’s position.
“I have been the Alpha of the Silver Moon pack for four years now. Luckily I have been able to keep my identity hidden thus far…” I smile warmly at him as I hear his mate’s footsteps walking down the hallway.
“Alpha, do you require me to remain?” Donnie catches my attention as I turn to answer him with a gently shaking of the head.
“No, all is fine, thank you Donnie.” I smile until I hear the footsteps stop and a gasp exit the female’s mouth. I really did need to get used to this.
“Welcome….” I turn to greet the female beta when my mouth drops.
Candice was standing before me. She looked different but in a good way.
“Evelyn?” Her mouth moves but I can’t hear my name that has form on her lips. My ears can only hear the loud pumping of blood. “Evelyn is that you?”
“Candice?”
“Oh my goddess…” She claps her hands to her mouth.
“I thought you were dead?” Her words snap me out of my shocked state and my back automatically straightens. Yes I’m sure they dead.
“Very much alive Candice.” I coldly respond, gesturing for them both to sit.
“Alpha?” Donnie’s voice enters my *head, he had paused his exit when Candice entered.
“Make sure the boundaries are secure.” I command to him through the link, before he swiftly exits the room.
“You know each other?” Her mate tries to break the awkward silence that has fallen upon us.
“Evelyn was the luna…before I met you.” Her eyes flash to him before they enter a mind-link.
“Oh.” He responds.
“So how long have you two been mates?” I ask, trying to move the conversation along.
“Two years now, I met Candice at one of the Red Stone yearly parties. The Alpha King wasn’t keen to lose her…” He smiles proudly at his mate but her eyes are locked on me. At the mention of the Alpha King, I grip the arms of the armchair.
“Luna…” She leans forward to towards me.
“Here I am the Alpha, Candice. This is my pack and my I remind you of the agreement between myself and Alpha Ivo.”
“Yes Alpha, we will not disclose your identity as promised.” Candice’s mate confirms what has been agreed upon.
“Milo…” I hear Candice quietly whisper his name.
“Beta Milo why don’t I give you both a small tour and then we can discuss the alliance going forward.” I coldly remark, keen not to mention my history with Candice any further. He being here put the pack in more danger than they or I could ever imagine.
“Yes that sounds ideal, Alpha Ivo was keen for my mate and I to assess your facilities.” Beta Milo has matched my business like tone, he understands that I wish not to discuss the Red Stone pack any further. Whereas Candice remains seated, her hands placed on her knees as she tries to regulate her breathing.
“I will escort you to the medical facility first, we actually have packs in our alliance outsource to us for child birth. Our facility is equipped with the most modern equipment and is very popular.” I start to discuss the benefits of them joining the Silver Moon pack when I can hear Elspeth and Rex running down the hallway.
