(Book 3) – Chapter 39
“It’s been two days since she shifted into her wolf. By now she should have shifted back.” Blake argued from his hospital bed. He had a few surgeries to get all the toxin out of his body that I missed and fix a few other things that wouldn’t fix themselves after the silver knife made the damage. “Someone use your Alpha voice on her or threaten her with no s*x.”
Edgar was sitting in one of the chairs against the wall in Blake’s room. He just g*****d and told Blake to piss off. He was sick of the back and forth but even more he was worried that I wouldn’t shift back until we found our kids.
“She will shift back when she is needed. Alistair and Roger didn’t find anything back at the houses or find anyone who had more information.” Koda said as he kept scratching behind my ears. He was on the floor with me laying on top of his legs.
“How could we have not known about more traitors hiding in our ranks? We were able to sniff out the others.” Andrew demanded as he paced the room. “Someone took our kids and we can’t get one damn clue! I need people to pay for this but all the ones who had anything to do with it are gone or were killed in the struggle.” He growled and punched the wall.
I rolled my eyes but kept my trap shut. Blue was resting and storing up our power. We would be ready for war and we would be getting the twins back. Hold on for Momma, babies. No one will ever lay a hand on you again because they will be dead. No more second chances. I was done being nice to people who didn’t deserve it.
“The twins can’t find anything to help us find their dad or Kailey.” Asher told us as he entered the room. “They have searched everywhere and talked to everyone. They are ready to leave here and find clues somewhere else.”
‘Not yet.’ Blue linked them.
“Not yet? Not Yet?” Andrew screamed stomping his way over to me. “Why don’t you get off your a*s, shift back, and use your powers to get our children back? I love you but right now you are pissing me off with your careless attitude.”
Edgar vamp sped over and shoved Andrew into the wall hard enough the wall cracked. “You ever go toward her in anger like that again and Ill rip your head off.” Edgar’s voice was low and steady. You could feel the rage and thirst for b***d when he spoke to Andrew.
Andrew didn’t say anything. He took Edgar’s seat and glared at the room. Blake was in shock at Andrews anger. I knew why he was angry and I knew I was the easiest to take it out on because I should be able to get my kids back. I should be able to find my kids but
I was worn out. I felt like my body and brain had been dragged through the mud and rocks, ran over by a few diesel trucks, and covered in acid. My mental health wasn’t the greatest right now either and it took every bit of love and compassion in me not to let Blue take a chunk out of Andrews a*s.
“She may take your angry words because she understands your grief and misplaced rage but none of us will.” Koda stated as he hugged me to his body. “She already had a talk with you so if she decides to get rid of your bond you better remember what caused it.”
Blue lifted her head and looked at Andrew. His face had fallen and his shoulders sagged. No one else spoke so the tension was making me feel a bit antsy. If he kept this stance at me doing nothing we would have to walk away. I couldn’t stop thinking about the twins, what happened, how I could get to them, and how I had failed them. All the grandparents and family members were distraught. They blamed themselves for not being stronger or not paying enough attention.
Andrew finally broke the silence when he let out a wail and fell to the floor. It startled Blue and we jumped up not knowing what to do. He answered that question by crawling over to me with the most visible grief I had ever seen.
“So…so..rry….My….fau….lt…nooot…you.” He stuttered out. He wrapped his arms around me and put his face in my fur. Within seconds his tears had soaked through my fur.
Blue whined and started licking him to help comfort him. ‘It isn’t your fault. I keep blaming myself but in reality, it is those fake rulers trying to show us who is boss. They made a huge mistake taking so many people we love. They will die slowly and painfully. Their followers will die quickly but die they will. No more chances or changes of heart. It’s a promise.’
“Ryder, my love, we all want revenge but don’t go dark on us. That is what they want if they can’t kill you.” Blake pleaded. “We will get everyone back safe and sound. We will take out the enemy and set things back to the way they were.”
We just gave a quick nod and went back to focusing on comforting Andrew. I knew we would all need time to talk and get some things off our chests so we could work as a unit but I wasn’t ready to shift back. I was running from the pain like a coward but I just needed some time.
I wanted to reach out to the twins but a scream pierced through me. I jerked back from Andrew and ran to the door. I whined so they would open it and Asher was the first one to realize what I needed.
“What is wrong?” Koda asked running behind me as I navigated the hallways of the palace. I heard more footsteps behind me so I knew a few others joined me.
‘Did you not hear that scream? That pain?’ It was coming from the courtyard.
I saw a crowd whispering about someone losing a loved one and how sorry they were to see it on someone so young. I pushed through them and saw Heath on the ground. Tyler was holding him with an expression of fear.
Tyler’s eyes locked onto me and mouthed ‘Help Me’. I lowered myself to the ground and crawled to Heath. I didn’t want to scare him or cause him anymore pain. I put my head on his leg and worked on pulling some of his pain away. It was horrendous. What caused this? I have heard of this pain before having to do with mates. His mate!
“She may take your angry words because she understands your grief and misplaced rage but none of us will.” Koda stated as he hugged me to his body. “She already had a talk with you so if she decides to get rid of your bond you better remember what caused it.”
The twins pushed through and took one look at what was going on before they understood. They told everyone to leave and quit being so damn nosy. Tyler and Mya refused to leave. I didn’t even hear Mya come up but she was standing by with her hand on Tyler. I could feel the magic from her through Tyler to Heath. She had become the third in their best friend circle pretty quickly and I couldn’t say they were wrong for making her another bestie.
‘Heath, did you and Kailey mark each other?’ I linked him. I already knew the answer and my heart was breaking. This was my fault. I made her my royal champion and they used her against me. This was a warning and something worse was going to come.
He just nodded and wailed Kailey’s name. I could feel his wolf getting weaker. He shouldn’t have been marked yet. He wasn’t eighteen until next month and this would kill him. I looked at the twins to see them staring at me with worry and pain.
‘This will kill him. I can feel his wolf fading. We need to knock him out so there is less strain on his body and have a witch do a stasis spell.’ I told my mates. They agreed and I pushed enough power into Heath causing him to pass out in my arms.
“What the f**k did you do?” Mya screamed trying to rip Heath out of my arms. “Did you just kill him? Why would you do that?”
Tyler pulled her back and told her to calm down. He knew I would never do anything to hurt Heath. He had become a good friend of ours.
“He is right, Mya. She knocked him out so he would have a chance at living without his mate. He was marked too early and it is killing his wolf since his mate is dead.” Koda told her. He took Heath from me while Edgar helped me up. “We need a witch who knows a strong stasis spell to use on him.”
Mya grumbled before nodding. “Ill meet you at the makeshift hospital. I know one but I will be assisting her. Tyler, stay beside Heath.” She looked at me pointedly.
Blue growled a warning at her making her bow her head down. Her hands sparked like she wanted to attack with magic. Tyler squeezed her tighted and snarled at her.
“That is the Queen of the Werewolves and one of our good friends. She had defended and be there for Heath more than either of us. Stop your jealousy and find the witch.” He pushed her away without looking at her.
I nodded at him before running off with everyone else at my heels. I will filling these makeshift rooms up with loved ones pretty fast.
