(Book 3) – Chapter 31
“Have we got ahold of them yet? Is our group almost there?” I paced in front of the dinner table in our house. I couldn’t stop. If I did I would break down and that was not going to help anyone.
“Ryder, it will be a few more hours until our warriors get there.” Knox stated as he looked at me worriedly. “How about we get our dad to take you to practice some of your powers?”
Jared rushed in from the twins room with a big smile on his face. “ I would love that but we do need some volunteers…Any of you want to step up?”
Everyone stood silent which made Jared laugh. He knew no one would volunteer. “Oh well, we can practice some of the other powers until we get an unwilling volunteer such as a man we need answers from.”
“Ok….but someone better make sure they contact me as soon as we know anything or I will pick a volunteer from this room next time.” I got nods from everyone.
“Lets go tiger. The kids are asleep and had a full bottle before they went down.” Jared opened the door and made me walk out first. He knew me too well.
I got about five minutes of silence in our walk before Jared started in with his excitement to see my powers up close and personal. I had to warn him to calm down or id have to show him how fast I could make it b***d boil. He found that more funny then scary.
“This is a good spot. Lets start with what we can do without someone here to help,” Jared said take a few steps back from me.
So which one can I try? ‘Let’s work with nature. It would be helpful to turn the branches into stakes so we could throw the vampires into it.’ Blue stated with her serious face on. Sounded good to me.
Deep breathe, in and out. I had to keep repeating this so I could let go of all the worry and stress I had in my head and just focus on the task at hand. I chose a tree to the side of us so if it started doing crazy, dangerous stuff we would be able to move out of the way.
“You ready, daughter in law?”
I nodded and began. The warmth in my chest got stronger until it felt like my whole body was lit up with energy. It was almost like I touched a electrical socket but no pain. I imagined the tree’s branches having sharped ends on them and each of them being long enough to pierce a person’s heart through their chest. I just had to focus on that image.
“Holy…I never got to see your dad or mom in action. That is amazing.” Jared sounded like a little schoolgirl when her crush smiled at her.
I walked closer to the tree and saw that every branch was a perfect vampire killer. The leaves even looked like they had sharp edges. I touched the truck and felt for the tree’s substance to make sure I didn’t hurt it. It was strong and thriving. The power I used also helped heal it and make it stronger.
“What are you doing?” Jared asked as he stepped up behind me and put his hand on my shoulder.
“I wanted to make sure I didn’t hurt the tree from changing its features. I actually healed it from previous damage, so it is thankful,” I said.
“You can talk to nature?” He sounded like he was in awe.
“Just a bit. I have done it before when the earth told me to let the b***d seep into the ground. It actually helps it…”
‘Ryder, Roger is on the line. It’s bad. Hurry.’ Asher linked interrupting me.
“Practice is done. Hurry.” I ran without waiting to see if he was behind me.
I shifted into Blue mid-run and was able to get back to our house within a few minutes. When I walked in everyone was there along with Sandra, Blake’s parents, Gamma Greg, and my parents. Koda walked me in front of the laptop where I saw Roger and his mate who both looked like they had been crying for hours.
“Roger, are you guys, ok? What damage was done to the pack? How many of us need to head there to help you out?” I started to ramble off questions. Koda put his hand on my shoulder to stop me.
“They came from everywhere. They rushed at the same time coming out of nowhere. We never even knew they were out there.” Roger stated as he sniffled and wiped the tears from his cheeks. “We lost so many. I lost so many. I lost…Tr..Tr…”
His mate wrapped her arms around him and laid her head on his shoulder. “We lost Trevor and his mate, Sarah. They were torn apart by a messenger from the Vampire King and Witch Queen. They said to ignore you when you called and to join them. We refused. Now 1/3 of our pack is dead.”
No, why would they do that? Why would they take out the packs they need to survive just to get them to side with them? No one in their right mind would follow the people who just killed their pack? Especially when they know you are going to continue killing them off regardless. These fake leaders must be bat s**t crazy.
“Did you kill all those traitors? Did you rip them apart piece by piece? Tell me none made it out alive.” I growled out.
Roger stood up almost knocking his mate off her chair. He caught her, put her back on her chair, and turned back to us. “I sent the heads back with the last man standing. He didn’t leave without injury that his wolf can’t heal and it pushed my message even farther.
f**k with us and you die.”
Melissa walked up beside me and grabbed my hand in hers. “What happens now for their baby girl?” Crap on a cracker, they did have a baby.
“They left her, Abigail, to us in their will. Right now she is with Trevor’s parents so we can sort everything out.” His mate sniffled and cried for the first time during the call.
“We have to go see the damage and check on our pack. Did you say you had warriors on their way?” Roger asked as his eyes went blank as he got a mind link or several from the way his shoulders tensed.
I looked back at Sandra since she would know more. “They are thirty minutes out. There are 20 of them. Keep them as long as you need them. If you need more help let us know.” She nodded as she spoke.
“Ok, thanks.” Roger helped his mate stand and turned back to us. “Ryder, I will be in one of the spy groups. I need revenge and traitor b***d spilled.”
“You got it.” I don’t know if he even heard me. The call ended as I replied but he didn’t need to. If he needed it, he would get it.
Blake clapped his hands to get everyone’s attention. “Ok, so now that we have been updated and there isn’t anything we can do here, it is time for everyone to go to bed. I know Ryder needs sleep and we all need to come back together tomorrow with a clear mind.”
My dad hugged me and gave each guy knuckles. He still was my overprotective dad and I loved every minute of it. He loved giving each guy hell when he could and they got stressed when he was judging them.
“You want us to take the twins with us, honey?” My dad asked after mom gave her round of hugs.
“No, I need them here with me. I actually want them in the room with me, however that can happen.” I looked at the guys with hope that they had the answer.
“It is time for their feeding and diaper change so how about we put them in their play pen to sleep after we are done so it is right beside the bed,” Andrew suggested. I nodded enthusiastically and hugged him so tight he gave a small squeak.
My parents laughed and left. Everyone else had already gone so when it was just the guys and myself, I let my emotions take over. I flooded my face with tears and could barely stand. The blame landed on my shoulders, and I got some friends killed. I was going to rip that queen b***h’s heart out.
