(Book 2) – Chapter 67
‘RYDER!! RYDER wake the hell up!’ Blue was shouting in my head. My brain was so full of fog and noise I could barely tell her voice apart from the other loud voices that felt like they were screaming at me all at once and about different things. Talk about waking up with a headache.
‘Blue?’ I questioned hesitantly. The last time we spoke she wouldn’t even lift her head or complete a sentence. How long had I been out this time?
‘I was wondering when you would get up. I need you to tell your mates to quit talking so loudly.’ She grumbled at me. ‘And to quit slamming s**t around the room. My whole body is pounding.’
I wet my lips knowing I was going to sound harsh and croaky from a dry throat but she was right. I needed them to shut up with being so dang loud. It was making the pain in my head worse.
“H…e….e….y.” I barely croaked out but it was like I had shouted in mega phone. Everyone rushed to me and everything became fuzzy from the head pain. “Q…u…i..et..”
‘It isn’t working. Mind link them SOBs before I sent out a wave of power we don’t have strength for right now.’ Blue growled. She was curled up in a ball panting from the pain.
“Ryder, talk to us.” Andrew pleaded as he grabbed my hand in his and squeezed. “Do you need anything?”
“Duh, idiot.” Asher said as he grabbed the other hand. “She needs water. Her throat is dry as a bone and probably hurts to talk.”
“Already called a nurse to get her some.” Knox replied as he put his hand on my leg and stared at me. I could feel how intense his gaze was without opening my eyes.
‘Could you all please shut up?’ I linked them but instead of just telling it to them I felt the link go out to everyone in the pack. This pack wasn’t even mine so what the hell was that.
My mates instantly got quiet which helped for a moment but it was ended when the pack realized someone had access to the pack link and it wasn’t a member of the pack. s**t bricks this was going to suck.
‘Who are you?’ Several peopled yelled in the open link making me want to vomit from the pain.
‘Who has this much power?’ More and more voices flooded in.
‘You aren’t a pack member so shut the hell up.’ A few more of these and I might get out of this bed just to kick some a*s.
I focused on the link as hard as I could and started to break it. It normally just snaps when I was done with it. I felt so weak but yet everything was more intense along with feeling more power within myself and my wolf.
‘Help Blue. I can’t do it without you. Please.’
I felt her pushing and pulling at the link making it break and all the voices screaming in my head stop. It felt like it had been hours but it was just minutes after I started the link that we ended it. All I could hear now is my breathing and the people in my hospital room.
“Dr..ink.” I m****d, starting to move my limbs to make sure they all still functioned correctly. I barely had the word out before I had a straw at my lips.
“Slowly or you will get sick. I need to see you out of a hospital gown for at least a few months.” Kane joked but the laughter didn’t reach his eyes.
I slowly drank half the water before it was taken away. I had to clear my throat a few times before I could speak. “Why is it so loud? Why were you all yelling a few minutes ago?”
“Yelling?” Edgar asked. “We were all whispering with the lights out. The doctor said to let you sleep because your body was fighting itself.”
“Baby, why would you think we were yelling?” Koda questioned from the foot of the bed.
“Because I woke up to it feeling like you were all shouting right beside me and I could feel your wolves power pulsing like it was my own pulse.” I whined out. They were making me feel like I was crazy.
“I am gonna call dad and see what he thinks.” Knox stated as he squeezed my calf. “I think it has to do with you finding your last mate. We will get it figured out, Beautiful. Drink the rest of your water and be a good girl for the doctor.” He winked before leaving. Kane followed him out with a smile. Damn, sexy a*s twins causing me all sorts of issues.
I nod and take the cup from Andrew who had moved up closer along with Blake and Koda. They all looked a bit rough but Koda looked like the walking dead. I wanted to wallow in me causing this with taking my last mate but I knew it wouldn’t change s**t. I wouldn’t change anything. These mate bonds made me whole and I don’t know what I would do without them.
“How are you feeling?” Blake asked quietly. I loved how sweet and knowing he could be.
“Like utter shit.” I answered honestly since they could feel my pain anyway. Stupid bonds made it hard to hide things like this.
I heard laughter from the door before it closed. “Well I guess I am glad I made it in time. I made sure to bring the good pain meds for us doggies.” I looked over and saw the same doctor from earlier.
“Sounds good, doc.” I smiled knowing the pain meds would help me focus on everything other than the pain. “Let’s do this so I can get to healing faster.”
“Well, slow down there slick.” He chuckled at his own dad joke. “You won’t be leaving for a few days. It would be longer but you are a strong princess and your wolf is amazing. She has already healed half of your body and restored enough of your strength to have you awake.” He seemed shocked that I was healing so fast.
“How long have I been out?” I asked him.
“Too damn long.” Koda muttered. Blue whined wishing we could take his pain away.
“Four days. After the scans we took and the changes within your power level most wolves wouldn’t have survived. The very few who did would be here for over six months or more.” The doc stated while putting the pain meds in my IV. It was an instant relief.
I must have smiled a goofy smile because my remaining mates were laughing at me. “I wouldn’t think this is too funny because I overheard some information about Melissa and Alistair that needs to be shared sooner rather than later.”
“Damnit. It is like you hear everything.” Asher teased me before kissing my cheek.
“Where are they? Are they hurt? How is the baby? What witch b***h am I killing when I get out of here?” I growled out. Blue was perking up and added in her growl.
“Breathe. They are fine, just a little banged up.” Edgar answered with a lie. I don’t know how I knew but I did. “The baby is fine. We took care of the situation.”
“Lie to me again, Edgar, and you will be the first I test all my powers on.” I hissed at him.
They all looked at me in surprise and I am sure they saw the same thing in my expression. Was that my new power? It was great and all but kind of the let down after all this s**t we have been dealing with.
“Well, that is new. We won’t do it again.” Andrew told me and he was telling the truth.
“Thank you.”
“The witches were nice at first but realized Melissa was pregnant with a hybrid.” Asher growled out.
“They switched sides right after and tried to kill the baby.” Blake barely had his sentence out when Blue pushed forward with a snarl turning my eyes purple.
“WHAT?!?!” That is it. I am out of this bed and killing some witches. Trying to kill my niece or nephew is the wrong thing to do.
“Calm down. The baby is fine. We got there in time and took out the half we could catch.” Edgar huffed. “They had several exit strategies, but we will find them.”
“I am helping. The pain they will feel will make them regret even thinking about hurting my family.
“We have had some other problems while you were out.” Koda admitted to me. “A pack a few hours from your parents heard about our cause and is not backing us. They tried to take over your pack.”
“Are my family ok?” I whined falling farther down into the bed expecting the worst.
