Chapter Prologue
Prologue
Levi’s POV
“Destiny, love, we need to send him now,” I whisper to my sweet mate.
“Levi, I don’t want to leave him to grow up all alone,” she chokes on her tears. “He should be surrounded by his family and friends… What will happen to him? I can’t bare to think of him left in the world, all on his own…”
She looks down at our newborn son cradled in her arms. He was born only an hour ago. His eyes shine with a deep sapphire, just like mine. He has midnight black hair just like Destiny. He is the perfect mix of the both of us… I wish I would be allowed to see him grow up to the man I hope he will be…
But that chance was stolen from me by those damn hunters. However, I won’t be deterred from giving my son a chance at life.
“I can’t either, but the hunters are coming soon and they will kill each one of us. We can’t let them find out about Jericho. He is our last hope to carry on our line,” I try to console my queen.
“Why can’t we just kill them all?” she demands. My queen is quite fierce, and I love that about her. She made the perfect dragon queen, but now…
That is exactly what we tried to do, before the came out with a new weapon that shocked in our human forms, while they reach in and pull out our hearts.
I sigh because we have been over this before. There is nothing more we can do.
“We’ve been hunted to all but extinction, love. We can keep him. And you know what will happen to him once they find us. Their weapons are not something we can protect ourselves from,” I try to emphasis, while also trying to calm her down.
But there is no hope of that happening; because at the moment my blood is boiling with rage and frustration. They’ve hunted us down for our hearts.
We don’t have long before they capture us. They won’t care that my son is only an hour old. They will steal his heart form him just for the chance to have everlasting life.
Erik rushes into the room and bows to me and my queen. “I am sorry, my King and Queen, but they have been spotted not more than an hour away from here,” he informs us.
Erik is my inside man. He is not a dragon, but a human who served our family unfailingly.
He is the one who had told us the hunters would be coming for us. He could not give us an exact time, but he has been keeping watch.
I was afraid they would be here before my wife could deliver our son. Fate must have been on our side. I will take this as a sign that not all of my people will die tonight.
“Erik, take my son, and keep him safe!” I beg more than demand. I am begging for my son’s future.
“Yes, my King,” he bows low and looks over at my mate with a sorrowful look on his face. There is nothing he can do to save us. But he can take our only legacy and keep him safe.
“My queen,” he asks gently.
Tears dribble down her chin as she lifts our son to her lips for the last time and plants a lingering kiss on his small head.
I can’t let him go without giving him a kiss on his nose. “We love you, my son. I hope one day you will understand what it is to love someone so much that you would give up your life for them,” I whisper in his tiny ear.
And with that, I hand my son to the man I am trusting to protect and guide th last dragon prince.
