“I don’t f**king care what my father says! This project won’t be up and running for another two years and I will be the one in charge then, so any and all changes need to be ran through me, not him!” I slam the phone down in my father’s office and rub my temples. I swear he’s got a bunch of imbeciles working for him! How does he expect me to do his job when his guys do not take me seriously?
I’ve been trying to pick up the slack while my father is gone on vacation but I’m about ready to fire every single person that he has working for him, because each one is incompetent. When the phone on the desk rings again, I take hold of it and growl through the receiver.
“What is it now, “Carrie?”
“I’m sorry, Sir, but Whitehaven Municipal Hospital is on line one for you.” The poor secretary has taken a lot of heat from me over the last few days, but she hasn’t quit yet, and I’m glad for it because I honestly don’t know what I would do without her. She’s the only competent person around here.
“Thank you, Carrie. You can put them through.” I frown to myself wondering why the fuck the hospital is calling here. Did my father forget to send in his yearly donation, I wonder? I answer on the first ring, “Xander Whitmore here, how can I help you?”
“Hello Mr. Whitmore. I’m sorry to bother you but we have a Garrett Murdock and a Kambree Hayes that were admitted here. There was a terrible accident, and your name was the only name that we could

locate for the young woman. We found Mr. Murdock’s information but have yet to make contact with any of his family, so we called you.”
“Please hold one moment,” I press hold and hang up the phone before grabbing my cell and my car keys and running out the door, “Carrie, can you please put the hospital call through to my cell ASAP!”
“Yes, Sir!” She calls out since I don’t wait for her answer.
What the fuck happened that they are both in the hospital? My phone rings and I answer, “Yes, sorry about that, I’m on my way. Garrett is my cousin and Kambree is my stepsister,” the word tastes awful on my tongue, “Can you tell me what happened?”
“All we know is that they were in a hit and run. A passerby called 911 when he came upon it, and both have yet to regain consciousness. Miss Hayes is in surgery now, but Mr. Murdock is already in a private room. I assume he has a concussion whereas Miss Hayes took most of the impact on her side of the car,
“Thank you. I’m about five minutes out, so I will be there soon.” I hang up and dial Trip right away. As soon as he answers, I start barking orders, “Garrett and Bree are in the hospital from an apparent hit and run accident, I’m on my way there now. I need you to go down to the police station and find out what they know and find out the location of the accident. Then, I want you to find the footage from that area and send it to me.”
“f**k! Are they okay?” He asks as he leaves the house. I can hear him slamming the door and then the dinging once he gets in his car.
“All I know is that Bree is in surgery, but Garrett is still unconscious. Hopefully, I’ll know more once I get there.”
“Okay, just keep me informed and I will call when I get some

information on my end.”
“Sounds good, thanks, Trip.”
“What the fuck do you mean that I can’t see my cousin?” I’m enraged at the young nurse behind the desk. She must not realize who the fuck I
am!
“I’m sorry, but only immediate family.” She says it as though she feels. bad but then I see her eyes roll as she turns around.
“I’m the only family that cares enough about his ass, so I suggest you get your supervisor here right the fuck now!” This bitch thinks I’m joking as she ignores my request. Just as I’m about to jump over the counter and ring her little neck, an older nurse comes around the corner and notices me.
“Mr. Whitmore, what can I do for you?” She asks as she looks back and forth between me and the nurse behind the desk.
“I’m trying to get in to see my cousin and she’s refusing me access!” I glare at the younger nurse for a split second and then I see the older nurse’s eyes widen.
“I am so sorry, Mr. Whitmore!” She then turns to the other nurse, “If their last name is Whitmore, then they can see whoever they want to see…remember that in the future!”
“I’m sorry but HIPPA…”
“The Whitmore’s are HIPPA in this town!” The older nurse states, “Now give him what he wants and anything else that he asks for.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Thank you.” I say to the older nurse, and she smiles in return before

grabbing a chart and walking away once again. I then turn and scowl at the younger one.
“I’m sorry. Mr. Whitmore. I just transferred to this town, I didn’t
know
“Just give me my cousin’s room number.”
“Room four–oh–five…down the hall and to the left.”
I don’t thank her like I did the older nurse, I just turn and head in the direction that she had pointed me in. I stop mid–step and turn slightly. “Send the doctor in once you see him. I want a thorough report on both my cousin and stepsister
“Yes. Sir!”
Turning. I head to Garrett’s room. It’s a bit dark when I walk in, the lights are dimmed down really low. I can only assume that is because of his concussion. Pulling a chair up beside his bed. I sit and wait for any kind of information that I can get.
I don’t understand how this happened; we are so careful and watchful with our surroundings, we have to be. The only thing that I can think of is that he was distracted by Bree in some way
I’ve only been sitting here for about twenty minutes when I hear a slight moan. I glance up and see my cousin move his hand to his head. but he feels the bandage and his eyes pop open, but only for a split second
“f**k!”
“Hey, careful with the bandage. I’m waiting for the doctor to come in and let me know what’s going on.”
O
He turns his head in my direction, “Why the fuck does it hurt to open my eyes?”
“You have a concussion, that’s all I know myself. Do you remember what happened?”
“Not really. I… wait, where’s Kammy? I remember being with her.”
“Last I knew, she was in surgery, I’ve been here for about a half hour but the first ten minutes I was held up with the f**king nurse who wouldn’t let me in to see you.” I frown.
“Kammy’s in surgery? What the fuck happened?” Garrett begins to get upset and tries to swing his legs over the side of the bed.
“You can’t open your eyes, but you think you can walk?” I chuckle, “Keep your ass in this f**king bed until the doctor says you’re well enough to get up.”
“Ugh, what the fuck?” He reaches under the covers, “I have a f**king tube in my dick? I want it the fuck out!”
I laugh, “Calm the fuck down, they didn’t know how long you would be out for. You were in a car accident, you don’t remember any of it?”
Garrett relaxes back a little and

There is a knock on the door, and it opens, revealing a middle–aged man in a long white coat, “Ah, I see you’re awake! How are you feeling, Mr. Murdock?”
“Like someone took a sledgehammer to my head.” Garrett groans.
“That’s to be expected. You had a little gash on your forehead but

otherwise, you made it out of that accident in better shape than Miss Haves.”
“How is she? Is she out of surgery?” I ask impatiently.
“A piece of the door got lodged into her stomach and another went into her thigh. They just finished her up and she’s in recovery at the moment”
“I want her transferred to this room and no one. I mean no one but me and Trip Huxley are to enter this room aside from the doctors and nurses, not without my permission.”
“Yes, certainly. Mr. Whitmore.” The doctor does a few tests on my cousin and asks him a few questions but doesn’t get much out of him. “I will send a nurse in to take the catheter out and see about walking you to the restroom.” He informs a very irritated patient before leaving us alone once again.
“I hate f**king hospitals!” Garrett growls and then sulks deeper into his bed.
“It won’t be for long. Soon enough you will be back at the house, doing what you do.” I chuckle.
“Damn it, I wish I could remember what happened! I remember taking Kammy to her doctor appointment, and she got the shot, and I remember leaving the clinic parking lot, but then it’s all blank.” Garrett
states
A new voice joins in, “I have a feeling that whatever it was, it was intentional.” I turn to see Trip closing the door behind him.
“What the fuck does that mean?” Garrett’s irritation is very noticeable.
Trip looks my cousin straight in the eye, “It means, your accident wasn‘
