The king's eyes

Chapter Meet the family

Samael

The demons gather around me and bow.

It seems they have a deep respect for me and I’m grateful for that, but I didn’t quite understand what happened.

One of them walks towards me and speaks.

“Lord Dorkaron.

All of us, demons and subterranean beings, have recognized you as our leader here on the surface, in your ability to call us to battle in defense of you, a human of royal blood and descendant of Jornur.”

Jornur…

"Is he still alive?" I asked.

"Lord Jornur has been dead for a few years. His two sons rule the underworld together. Rarkar and Rikon are our leaders underground. We didn’t know you were one of us, and one of our leaders." He answered.

"I didn’t know that either. I learned that very recently. I would like to thank you all for your intervention, you have helped to eradicate the threat that has harmed us all for decades.

I wish I could meet your underground leaders. We need to organize solidarity between each species, and the cohesion of the leaders or representatives of each of them." I proposed.

"We will convey our request, Lord Dorkaron." He said, and retired.

They all bow again, and I answer them with a solemn nod.

They saved us.

My children arrive running.

Satine yells at me: "Dad!! It was amazing!!

... Your body? You have doubled in size!"

Joan adds: " Your eyes have turned red! Your horns!! Wow, that’s insane!!"

I realize I still have that look. I am gradually regaining human form.

Joan keeps saying, stunned: "You called them by hitting the ground!! You summoned hundred of demons!!"

I confess: "To tell the truth, I acted without knowing what I was doing exactly, kids.

We must help the soldiers who are still under the influence of a bad spell. And Iris... "

I look at my partner, my children meet her... So bad circumstance to...

"We have to find a way to cure her, I have to find her father. We must bring back all the magical creatures that lived in the kingdom before the opponents banished them.

We will take the road in the opposite direction, we will stop at each village, and I will make an official announcement, of my recovery, of my resumption of the management of the kingdom, of my hybrid nature." I said.

Joan suggests: " We must tell them that the demons are on our side, that you challenge the remaining opponents to stand against us, they have no chance, they will have to either leave or silence their hatred of others and learn to respect their fellow citizens ."

My son too knows how to impose himself for justice. I’m glad I brought them with me.

We have no choice but to wait for the rest of the convoy with food and stagecoaches to lay down the sleeping soldiers.

Those under the pain spell were relieved when the wizards who cast the spell were killed.

A farmer not far from the coven agreed to welcome us and give us first aid. He seems happy to feed and house us.

I thank him with my gratitude and some gold coins.

The next day,

after the arrival of the rest of our convoy, I go to make an announcement in the marketplace.

I make sure that all the speakers hear me, and that my voice carries as far as possible.

Then I see and hear people cheering for me, no one protesting against my authority, people seem sincerely happy to see me back in full health, and sing to my glory.

I think the hostile times have damaged them. They need peace, celebration, union, and joy.

I encourage them to celebrate this new era and to spread the information, we want the return of our magical fellow citizens, we want the freedom and serenity of all the peoples of the kingdom.

We go through the towns and villages one after the other, we return the borrowed horses, we receive food offerings from the villagers, and parties are organized after each of my announcements.

A fairy joined us, Felice, she was sent by Clarissa to ensure the success of my expedition to the opposing country.

She helped us wake the sleeping soldiers. We regain strength thanks to the intervention of all, the communicating joy of all these populations carries us and gives us faith in the future.

In the evening,

I fall asleep next to Iris, hoping that we can very quickly get her out of this limbo in which she is a prisoner.

Felice is treating her bruises, and healers from the castle who were part of the convoy are also at work to take care of each of us.

My children laugh and dance with the villagers celebrating my return.

Shezaar’s son is being held in one of the carriages, along with two of my soldiers. He tells them his innocence day and night and begs us to believe him, but I refuse to even hear him.

He’s already lucky enough to still be alive.

We have been traveling for two days, we have taken time to recover and spread our message to all the populations of the kingdom.

We should be at the castle tomorrow, at the end of the day. I hope they hear me, I hope they come back. We all need each other.

Satine

It’s party time tonight, like every night since we left Drazzel.

We spread the news of my father’s victory over the evildoers, and the hoped-for return of all the magical beings exiled unjustly during the last years, in each of the cities we travel.

And immediately afterward, without being asked, people are shouting for joy, singing praises for my father and his beneficent reign, celebrating our return to the front of the stage.

They also appreciate being able to speak directly to their king, being able to see him in person is apparently a kind of blessing for them.

It is incredible to see all these subjects devoted to the king, simply by faith in him... I am moved and totally blissful, carried by the celebration and the honor that we are offered.

I am also happy to have found him… I was terribly angry with him. Precisely because he has always been an exemplary and extraordinary father, he invested a lot for us, in time, in energy, and he seemed happy to do so.

He made himself so great in my eyes that I fell from the sky after that night. I never thought I wouldn’t see his face again for eight long years...

I had moments of intense anger towards him, then grief that lasted for days…

I went through all the moods hoping deep inside me that the father I had known had not completely disappeared and that he had not forgotten me...

No matter how resigned I was, I knew he hadn’t forgotten about us. I was in pain, but I kept this hope.

And today, to see him so proud, so happy to see us again, and to share everything with us, I sincerely think that he suffered from our absence and that his condition did not allow him to be calm about his behavior with his children.

My father is a demon...

I saw him transform into an impressive and majestic creature…

I am so grateful to this person who helped him reveal himself as he really is. I have never seen him so accomplished and sure of himself.

I am very proud to be his daughter. I hope I am up to it and that I will be for the rest of my life. I would work hard for that, for him to keep looking at me with those eyes...
