The Journal of Memories

Chapter Save a City

Luna stood in the middle of the street by our bike. I laughed at her, “What are you doing?!”

She gave me a big smile, “I am going to be a superhero. If this works, it’s going to be so cool. I think I found my super power.”

I laughed again, “Oh really... what is it?”

She looked out to the street, “Helping people get back to who they are.”

I shook my head, “Okay, super girl. Whatever you say.”

She closed her eyes then spoke, “Everyone out there, come here. We are going to save you.”

I was about to laugh again but I saw someone walking down the street towards us. Followed by five more, “What the hell?”

She smirked, “I told you... superpower.”

I focused my eyes down the street seeing more and more people assembling into a giant mob. After about five minutes it doubled in size to hundreds of people. Luna walked over to me, “I think this is a big enough army. The rest of them will show up on the way there.”

I shook my head, “We must be crazy.”

She smiled, “Yes we are but we are going to help these people. Even if we get shot at or arrested. We are going to save the city.”

I smiled too, “Sounds good to me. Macy!”

I hear her bark and then jump into the sidecar, “Looks like she is in too.”

Luna and I jumped onto my bike. I started the engine, “Which border will be the best to go to?”

“I remember that news reporter we watched was standing on Brooklyn Bridge. I think they best place would be there and it gives us time to add more people to our little army.”

I nodded, “Is there anyway to stay away from running into Guards? It will slow us down more if we do.”

She looked through the tablet at maps, “I have another crazy idea.”

I laughed, “Okay, what is it?”

“The subway tunnels.”

Shock.

Oh yeah a subway.

I nodded, “Okay, subway tunnels?”

“Yeah, it will be faster and we can avoid being caught.”

I nodded, “I like your thinking. Crazy, but it will work.”

She nodded, “Okay there is one really close. It will just be bumpy because we have to go down stairs. Go straight and I will tell you were to turn.”

I began driving down the street as everyone followed behind us. Luna pointed towards a staircase leading underground, “Go there.”

I followed her direction and stopped at the top of the stairs, “Hold on.”

She gripped onto me as I drove down the stairs. It was really bumpy but I managed it, “I have always wanted to do that!”

She laughed as we continued driving across the tile flooring. I glanced back seeing that everyone was still following us.

I can’t believe this is working.

I yelled back to her, “This is going to be hard. We have to get on the track which is a few foot drop.”

I drove down onto the track. We dropped off the edge but still continued. Luna yelled out, “No one touch the third rail!”

They all nodded and kept following close behind us. A few were running to keep up and I was surprised that I could actually drive fast, well still slow, with them. We got to a giant clearing were at least five tracks meet up and Luna directed me to merge onto another track. We went back into another tunnel, as it went pitch black again.

This is actually kind of cool. Creepy but cool.

Luna nudged my shoulder as we came up to another station, “Stop for a minute. More people are coming and some are falling behind.”

I nodded, “No problem.”

I stopped the bike and listened as the tunnels became silent. I could hear the wind blowing through and the small sound of feet coming towards us. I was surprised to see the amount of people we have picked up. More people came down the stairs, filling up the station.

Luna’s eyes were big as she looked over everyone, “I think we are ready to get going again.”

I started up the bike and began driving again.

After about twenty minutes, Luna directed me out of the station. My eyes had to adjust to the sunlight from being underground for awhile. She pulled at my arm again, “The bridge is close. We should walk.”

“Sure,” I parked the bike and we both jumped off.

Luna looked nervous. I grabbed her hand and intertwined our fingers, “You ready?”

She smiled at me, “Hell yeah! We go down together.”

I smiled too, “Yes we do.”

Let’s do this.

We began walking towards the bridge, hand in hand, and Macy at our side with our giant army behind us.
