The Journal of Memories

Chapter Our Decision

My eyes flutter open when I heard yelling, “What is going on with her?!”

I looked over at Luna to see her with her eyes closed and her nose bleeding.

“I don’t know. Her brain is going crazy though.”

Oh no she is having another vision. Why here though? And why did it have to be now?

Dr. Simon was frantically scrolling through holographic screens in front of him, “Her heart rate is extremely high but her breathing is fine.”

I stared at her, knowing she will be waking up soon. I guess they noticed how calm I was because Dr. Simon started throwing questions at me, “Do you know what is going on?”

Act dumb.

I didn’t say anything and stared at him.

“Please, Ben we need to find out what is happening with her. She needs our help.”

She is fine. She doesn’t need any help.

Luna’s eyes shot open and she casually sat up, wiping the blood from her nose. The look on everyone’s faces looked like they had seen a ghost. I almost let out a giant laugh but restrained myself.

I could tell Luna just went through a horrible vision because her expression was sad unlike her usual smile.

All the scientist were all crowded around us, throwing out questions.

“What happened?”

“Why is her brain calming down now?”

“Why was it going crazy with activity?”

“Why is her nose bleeding?”

Luna and I both scooted against the back of our boxes in an attempt to get away from them. It is crazy how our world went from complete silence to filled with noise so quickly. It was just freaking us out.

Dr. Simon was the one to calm them down, “Everyone you are going to scare them. Just stay calm, quiet, and go back to work. We can figure this out back at our desks and in the lab but don’t do it where you are just going to stress them out more.”

Everyone quieted down instantly and slowly backed away over to their desks. There was still a small rumble of noise amongst everyone but it was enough to have me and Luna relax away from the backs of our boxes.

Dr. Simon pulled up a stool again, “I am sorry we scared you two. That was not our intention, we just were confused about what was going on. I am pretty sure you guys are too.”

Not really. And they are supposed to be the smart ones.

I laughed inside my head. I saw Luna trying to hold in a laugh too.

Dr. Simon noticed as his expression changed from confusion to interest.

Oops... that’s not good.

“You guys know what that was.”

He said it as a statement instead of a question.

Oh no. If he keeps being this observant, he is sure to find out exactly how much we know and can do.

“How many times has this happened? And when did it start?”

Luna tensed up, but relaxed when she saw my soft expression I was giving her. We both nodded with the same idea and glared at him.

He was definitely thrown off by our intense stare and decided to take a different route, “Listen guys... there is a whole city out there that has been put through hell and back. To be honest we have no idea what is going on. But when we found you two, we found a place to start. Now... we are going to find out why you two are so different with or without your help. The President gave us orders to fix this. Also, if the National Guard out there wants to get any information out of you by force... I can’t stop them. Like I said I am trying to help you.”

We soften our gaze, thrown off too but kept staring at him.

He jumped off the stool, “I will let you two think about that... I will be right over here if you guys decide to help us. We are kind of busy saving a city instead of just spending our time staring at each other all day.”

Damn him. Making us feel guilty.

Luna looking at me while he left. We were both confused on what to do but there was only one question.

Save ourselves or save the city.

Luna raised her eyebrows at me and mouthed Just do it already.

We both looked at each other and nodded.

We are actually doing this.

I exhaled a giant breath.

For my parents out there somewhere.

“Dr. Simon... We have made our decision.”
