Chapter Getting Cleaned Up

We sat in the truck hovering down the road, which was much more comfortable than the first time we were thrown into one. Macy was sleeping at our feet. General Stowe watched us closely, “I am sorry if this is a bad question but what have you guys been through out there? You both look pretty beaten up.”

Luna chuckled, “Yes we are beaten up and worn out but that is a question that will take days to answer, sir.”

He chuckled too, “How did you guys get those scratches then? If I may ask.”

We both shuddered and I decided to answer, “The mob.”

“The mob?”

Luna looked down at her feet, “Everyone out there. They are the mob... they are crazed and animalistic but I have control of them now.”

His eyes widened, “Control? What do you mean?”

She laughed and pulled out the tablet, “It would be better if you read it, sir. Then you can understand everything without too many questions.”

He took the tablet and began reading and swiping through the screens. His eyes widened at some points and his mouth was left open, “Interesting...”

When he was finished, he handed back the tablet. His eyes were so wide, “So you c-control them.”

She nodded, “Yes but I don’t control them as slaves. I think of it as I am helping them help themselves get back to normal... That is why we took them to the bridge with us. So they could play a part in their own rescue but I called them off when the shots were fired. It isn’t right to force them to be there for that when they don’t even know what is hurting them.”

He nodded, “It is like you are some sort of superhero.”

Luna laughed and hit my arm, “I told you it was my superpower.”

There was a knock on the window from the front of the truck, someone yelled, “We are here sir!”

General Stowe nodded, “Alright. Let’s get you two cleaned up and ready to meet the President.”

Oh my god a shower sounds so good right now.

We jumped out of the truck looking up at the skyscraper in front of us. General Stowe guided us with his hand out to the door, “Over here you two.”

We both followed him. The doors were opened for us by two guards who saluted the General as he walked passed. We walked into a lobby that looked similar to the hotel we stayed at.

Another hotel?

We got in the elevator taking it to the tenth floor. General Stowe guided us down the hall and opened a door for us, “You two can stay in this room while we wait for the President. Feel free to clean up and get comfortable. We managed to find some clothes for you guys too. It will be about an hour as they get briefed.”

Luna smiled, “Thank you.”

He nodded and closed the door, leaving us alone in the room with Macy getting comfortable on the couch.

Luna walked around a bit and explored the rooms, “There are two bathrooms so we can shower. They left some clothes on the table over there.”

I looked over my dry skin, “A shower sounds so nice.”

She grabbed a stack of clothes and threw them at me, “Yeah you stink. Really bad.”

I gasped, “Wow so mean.”

She smiled and picked up another stack of clothes, “Not as mean as you.”

With that she disappeared into a door. I sighed and walked into the other bathroom with my stack of clothes. I looked into the mirror seeing a whole different person that I am used to.

I had dried blood and scratches all over my arms. The bruises from the bullets were beginning to form as they were turning yellow and purple. My skin was grayish from the ash and dirt from my dad’s lab. My clothes were torn in some places and also dirtied. My black hair was sticking up in weird places and my eyes were sunken in like I haven’t slept in days.

I feel so gross.

I let the water warm up before slipping off my clothes and stepping in. It felt like I was shedding my skin as the water flowed onto me. The water was a reddish brown form all the stuff coming off my skin. I scrubbed soap all over myself until the water cleared up. I closed my eyes enjoying the water then turned it off.

I feel like a new person now.

I put on the clothes which was a white long sleeve dress shirt and black jeans with a bow tie. The shirt was too big so I rolled up the sleeves on my arms. I put on the bow tie and straightened my hair out with my fingers. My blue eyes and pale skin looked brighter with the white shirt.

At least I look somewhat decent now.

I walked out of the bathroom seeing Macy running out of other bathroom, soaking wet. I jumped back when Luna came out, looking exhausted, “I gave her a bath but she didn’t want to get dried off.”

I laughed again as I watched Macy rub herself against the rug on the ground, “Well I guess she is drying herself.”

She laughed, “At least she is clean.”

I looked over Luna’s outfit seeing she was wearing black jeans, a white blouse, and a black jacket. We both were still wearing our ripped up, black high tops. These definitely don’t go well with our somewhat formal clothes.

Luna laughed at me, “Well look at you, being all fancy. You look ready for a school dance.”

School dance?

Shock.

Oh... I get it.

I shook my head, “Ha ha, very funny.”

We heard a knock on the door and General Stowe popped his head in, “The President is ready for you guys.”
