Chapter Twenty-Two: LUCA
Leah was right, as upset as we were, I knew that our father only did all this and hid for so long to protect us. It was no doubt to the people that we would get our powers, but growing up in a world where they didn’t exist made it all so surreal. I wondered if father ever thought about coming back for us and then I realized how hard that would be seems as he had to fake death in order to leave, it did not help his cause if he would have tried to take us. I also thought about how my mother would have reacted to all of this on her own. She was always such a hateful person, only looking for power. It would have been a whirl wind of a trip for her. I tried not to imagine how bad it would have been if father tried to gain custody of us before he had left. He knew as well as I that mother was insane.
When I first found out about our powers and the whole ordeal, I was only sixteen. I only wanted to play sports and be with Sarah, who had also just sat and explained who she really was to me. In my heart I knew it didn't matter, she was and always had been the love of my life.
"Did you always know, you'd be king?" I asked him.
"I knew there was a possibility, but never suspected that Tobias would have passed so soon. Or that I would be following in the same way. But I am proud of you and your sister. For all you put up with for so long."
"Are you afraid?"
"Not anymore. MY greatest fear was letting you and your sister down. With the way you both first treated me when you got here, I knew it was already too late for that. Sometimes I wish I would have done more for you both. Maybe even have left your mother when you were old enough. But I didn't. This all happened exactly to the Great Mother's plan, she knew from the beginning how it was supposed to go. She also knows how it will go. So don't underestimate her."
"What about Leah being the Mother's doppelgänger, did you know about that?"
He sighed and tried to adjust himself in his chair to get more comfortable. "Honestly no, not at first. Not until about a week or so after I got here. Oran has visions of her too. She once showed him her younger self while showing him the history. When he saw the picture of Leah on my desk, he thought it was her. "He asked then, about your birth and stuff. When I told him, he told me what Uncle Tobias had told him. Trust him Luca. I know he and the wolves are stubborn, but just have patience."
"Yes father, I'll still have you though, won't I?"
"Luca, I'm not going to promise anything, mainly because between how things feel right now, with the magic in the air, and your sister's dream. I just don't know."
I looked down feeling defeated.
"Son, I will always be with you. But it won't always be in the physical nature of things. That I do promise."
When Leah and Sarah got back from their meetings, I pulled my beautiful girl away from the world and locked us in our room. She smiled at me and pulled my lips to hers. I hated that we were still hiding our bond from everyone. The elders had requested it as soon as we made it to the Isle. Oran hadn't wanted this for us either, but he couldn't go against the word of the elders and he performed a small bonding for us that first night. Sarah had been doing well hiding her marks from everyone, but with that extra string tightening our bond holding back our urges was even harder. That first night I hadn't expected us To do anything, but Sarah made it clear she wasn't going to wait.
It made sense, in her mind and according to her upbringing we were fully married. She told me later that eventually she'd like a human ceremony. I had begun to work on a plan for that, but there were many parts I had yet to fill. This moment was like any other and we weren't going to stop. My kisses trailed down her neck and her chest. She was perfect, in every way.
"Luca, don't bother with protection. I don't care anymore. It's going to happen one way or another, so who cares."
Hearing that I about lost it on the spot. No protection, was I going to last that long. She pulled back sensing my unease. Her forehead touched mine and I could hear her loud and clear in my mind.
Luca I love you, heart and soul. We are going to have children at some point. With you becoming King one day, we will need to carry on the legacy. We may be young, but who are we kidding anymore. We've loved each other since we met. You may not have understood it then, but I did and I knew in that moment my life was changed forever.
Sarah, are you sure? You're ready? You're ready to be a mother?
She nodded, "I am."
"One hundred percent sure," I asked again.
"Yes Luca. It's you and me forever. Why wait any longer for that?"
I smiled and pulled her lips back to mine. We spent a better part of the afternoon locked in our room. After the second time Sarah had fallen asleep. I kissed her head and dressed. There was a lot on my mind now, given what she and I talked about and my future place as King. I needed to clear my head, unfortunately, laying with the love of my life wasn't going to give me clarity.
I went for a walk outside, the air was warm and the sun was setting. Another perfect day in paradise. I noticed the guards pay more attention to the surroundings with me out there. Like they knew that I would notice. I rolled my eyes. I looked up at the castle from where I stood, I could perfectly see my sisters room. The shades were open letting the light in and the balcony doors were open. Leah must have been in there sitting in a chair with her nose in a book. I smiled, then I remembered this was about where that person was. I turned around and walked towards the walls. As I approached I noticed the big tree, but I also saw the big gaping hallow in it. It was big enough for someone to fit through. I motioned at a guard who then came running over.
"Sir?"
"Do you see that hole ?" I asked.
"No, sir. What hole?"
Aunt Em had told me once that not everyone can see the things we see. She said that our magic was more powerful. But she told me that we could let others see. Usually, it involved touching the other party and letting them in to our mind.
"Do you trust me?"
The guard nodded. I took his arm, as to make it less awkward. After a few deep breaths I was able to let him in.
"My goodness. Do you think that is how the woman got out?"
"It's very possible. We should investigate this further, let Moriarty know about this. Have him contact me when he needs help."
The guard nodded, "Yes, sir."
I knocked on Leah's door. When it opened I burst in. She and Kai looked at me kinda stunned. Like I had interrupted something. My rationale didn't care.
"I found something on our missing intruder."
Leah's eyes got bigger, "Where?"
I lead her and Kai out to the tree. I heard her gasp, I looked over to Kai and he looked as clueless as the guards.
"I don't see anything."
"Leah, do you think we can make it visible for everyone?"
We both put a hand on the tree. There was something different about this than just me showing someone. It was something we needed to keep guarded. Everyone needed to be able to see it. Maybe even send a few guards to investigate it. My eyes locked on Leah's. I watched as they turned from their normal green-grey hue to white. It was like a cloud had covered them. I heard everyone gasp as they all began to see. But then had to catch my beautiful sister. Sometimes the power was too much for her. It drained her. This spell wasn't an easy one. I could feel it too, but it wasn't as strong for me. I was just lending my abilities to Leah. She had done most of the work. Em had told her that over time shed grow stronger and it would affect her less.
