The Inauguration

Chapter 13

“This is outrageous!” Elena’s voice filled the hall,

“Melinda, how can you possibly pledge to someone… like this? A rogue?!” She exclaims looking at the female Alpha of the SnowClovers.

With her pale skin and black hair, the woman shrugs, “How could I not, Elena?,” she asks standing beside Lucius and his pack, “This man has endured more and yet he still conquers. And for a rogue, he is more eligible for the throne than your own. I mean the boy can barely pay attention to what is happening right now.” she says chuckling at the mated couple that is so entranced by each other that they hadn’t even noticed the change in atmosphere.

“He will learn.” Elena huffs, only to receive a laugh from Melinda.

“Elena darling,” she sighs, “kings are not queens. They’re not made, they’re born and your son is definitely not a king,” she explains before turning to the council.

“Now, I want to hear what the council’s expectations of what’s to happen next are, considering what has just transpired?”, she looks at Councilman Arald expectantly.

The packs turn to the council, waiting for what to do next. Some hoping for justice for the rouge and his pack, others hoping that the idea of a monarch is tossed aside. They believed the world was fine without a monarch.

“Wait, but what of the prophecy?”, Elena asks as if only remembering the detail now.

“Well, prophecies can be changed.”, Melinda says shrugging while looking at Lucius who seemed too preoccupied in his own thoughts, “And besides, is it possible that the prophecy itself might have been interpreted wrong?”, with that question, the room erupts into whispers, questions arising against the idea of the prophecy.

“How do we actually know the prophecy is true?!”, a voice shouts from the crowd, while others murmur in agreement. “How do we even know if there’s actually a prophecy and not something made up to get what you want?”, another asks. “Wouldn’t be the first time Therealts cheated. Also, it wouldn’t be surprising if the council supported them,” they hear Lucius say with a nod.

Everyone’s eyes turn to the council, awaiting an explanation. “Well Arald, everyone’s waiting,” Lucius smiled, “you didn’t lie, did you?”.

“N-No… we did not lie.” Councilman Gerald says. “But?”, Melinda interjects, sensing the lie he was about to tell.

“But, we may have… changed a few details,” the room fills with aggressive growls that shook the windows, threatening to break them.

“So you, the council, a group that is most trusted and is supposed to guide us, manipulated and betrayed us to get what you want?”, Melinda growled halfway up the stairs, “Deceitful bastards, I’ll tell you that. Conniving mutts too.” she spits, now standing in front of the council eye to eye.

“Lugar!”,

She calls and all heads turn to the male redhead standing to the side, “This is your pack. I ask permission to proceed and handle judgement?”.

All eyes are on the male who turns to a woman beside him, her hair snow white and eyes green in colour. They all watch the woman nod to Lugar who in turn nods to Melinda with a gracious smile decorating his lips, “Permission Granted”.
