Matthew had felt a touch of impatience, thinking that Aurelia had pretended to stumble and fall into his arms. However, his annoyance faded upon hearing her explanation.
Her complexion was very pale, with a slight sheen of sweat on her forehead.
It was clear that she was sick.
“I’m fine. Please take me back to Starry Sea Mansion. I don’t want Grandma to worry, and I also fear that I might pass my cold to her,” Aurelia said to Matthew again.
With a nod, Matthew took off his suit jacket and draped it over Aurelia. Then, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, he quickly led her away.
Gideon and Melanie had barely managed to weave their way through the crowd and were about to reach them when Matthew briskly walked away with the woman.
They wanted to catch up but ended up being stopped by the staff who stated that Matthew took the VIP passage.
The father and daughter felt extremely embarrassed.
They were just one step away.
Their luck was just too terrible.
Before getting in the car, Aurelia heard Matthew making a phone call to Mabel and asking. Gordon to drive her car back to Starry Sea Mansion.
The diamond ring that had just been auctioned off would also be delivered to the Quigley residence by the auction house staff.
As she listened, she gradually drifted off to sleep in the car.
Matthew watched as the sleeping Aurelia sat quietly in the corner. Her head was gently leaning against the side of the car window. She was a head shorter than him, probably about five feet five inches tall, but at this moment, curled up in the corner of the car, she looked quite petite.
Unsure if it was the discomfort from her illness or some troubling thought, she silently shed.
tears.
Tears, imbued with the glow of neon lights in the night, adhered to her lengthy eyelashes. She bore a resemblance to a neglected child who had endured hardship.
Matthew’s curiosity was piqued. He wondered what exactly had happened to her.
Is it because of her boyfriend?
The thought that she might have agreed to marry him out of spite toward her boyfriend made Matthew’s heart sink.

Half an hour later, in Starry Sea Mansion, the family doctor came to give Aurelia a simple check- up. After confirming it was just a common cold, he prescribed some fever–reducing medicine.
After the family doctor had left, Matthew adjusted his tie and walked over to Aurelia’s bed. He then used a thermometer to take her

“Aurelia, get up and take
your medicine.”
Aurelia was in a daze, her hearing unclear. She only caught the words “take your medicine,” and for a moment, she didn’t know whether she was in her past life or still in a dream.
Curtis and Melanie had forcefully made her swallow that kind of medicine, subjecting her to unbearable torment. The kind of torment where her body was burning up with no way to alleviate it, coupled with the severe mental blow, came rushing over her like a tidal wave.
“No, I won’t take the medicine.”
Her voice had been reduced to a hoarse whisper, her eyes remained tightly.
tears streaked down her pale face, flowing uncontrollably.
Matthew pursed his lips slightly.

Just as he was planning to feed Aurelia the medicine forcefully, a call from Mabel came in.
“How is Auri doing? Have you been taking good care of her? You rascal, Auri is now your wife, and she’s ill now. You must step up and take good care of her!”
Matthew’s lips were pressed into a hard line when he heard that. “She has a fever. I was about to give her medicine.”
“What, she has a fever? That sounds quite serious! What are you still doing talking nonsense? Hurry up, hang up the phone, and take care of Auri!”
After ending the call wordlessly, Matthew turned his gaze toward Aurelia.
She had curled herself into a ball, her delicate face flushed red, yet he didn’t understand why she was continuously shedding tears.
It was a heart–wrenching sight to behold.
Matthew tugged at his tie once more, his voice deep as he said, “Aurelia, you’re having a high fever. You must take some fever–reducing medicine.”
Upon hearing the word “medicine,” Aurelia gritted her teeth tightly.
In a daze, she said, “Curtis, I hate you!”
Seeing the tears on Aurelia’s pale, delicate face, Matthew clearly understood now why she was shedding tears in sorrow.

She was clenching her lip so tightly that it seemed just a bit more pressure might cause her to bite through it.
He immediately furrowed his brows and reminded, “Aurelia, snap out of it.”
Perhaps it was the pain from her bitten lip that brought Aurelia back to consciousness. However, her head still throbbed painfully, and her body remained weak and listless.
Upon opening her eyes, she saw Matthew.
The scene that was hazy and dreamlike faded away.
Aurelia’s heart was still throbbing with pain.
Reaching out to Matthew, she said, “Thank you. Is this the fever–reducing medicine? Give it to me, please.”
Matthew gazed at her intently, handing over the medicine.
Then, he passed over the water cup.
After taking the medicine, Aurelia expressed her thanks.
“I’ll be fine once the fever subsides. Get some rest, Mr. Quigley.”
Matthew’s voice was cold and deep as he asked, “Are you sure?”
Aurelia nodded with a smile. “Yeah. It’s just a cold and fever.”
It was just a simple cold and fever. There was nothing she couldn’t handle.
Observing Aurelia’s current strong demeanor, Matthew thought back to her tear–streaked, somewhat delicate appearance just moments ago. He suddenly wondered if she was intending to establish herself as a strong and independent person in front of him.
Considering this possibility, coupled with his previous speculations about her, Matthew gave at cold hum and walked out of her room.
After Matthew left, Aurelia lay down again.
Perhaps the dream she just had was too vivid as if she had returned to her past life, and now she found herself unable to fall back asleep.
Or perhaps it was because she had slept and taken medicine, she still felt weak, but she wasn’t as uncomfortable as before.
A phone call came in just then.
Seeing that it was from Xavier, she answered the phone.
“Xavier.”

“Auri, why does your voice sound so weak? Are you sick?” Xavier asked anxiously.

He had watched Auri grow up since she was a child. Whenever she fell ill, her speech would become somewhat weak.
Aurelia’s eyes were somewhat red, likely d
to her illness. She truly missed her family. “I’m fine,
Xavier. It’s just a minor cold. I’ll be better after some sleep.”
“Where are you living now? I’m not busy at the moment. I can come and take care of you.” Xavier was worried about Aurelia living alone in a rented house.
“I’m sharing a place with others, and I have roommates to look after me, so don’t worry.” Aurelia quickly came up with an excuse.
She still hadn’t figured out how to tell them about her sudden marriage.
Upon hearing that someone would take care of Aurelia, Xavier felt slightly relieved. “By the way.” he asked, “is there something going on between you and Curtis?”
“I broke up with him. Did he come to you?” Aurelia moistened her lips, which were slightly dry due to her fever. It seemed as if the pain from her recent dream was creeping back up again.
“He just called me, asking if I knew where you were. You guys should have broken up a long time ago! I’ve always found him rather off–putting, and I feel like he’s been growing more and more unscrupulous over the past couple of years,” Xavier said.
Aurelia said self–mockingly, “Yeah.”
Even Xavier could see that Curtis had ulterior motives, yet in her past life, she had been so blind.
“Xavier, come take a look. Doesn’t this thesis look a lot like yours?” a voice from the other end of the phone called out.
Aurelia asked with some concern, “Xavier, did something happen?”
