The Heir and The missing Damsel (Marcus and Kimberly)

Chapter 4

Chapter 4 Trap

The hotel door was open when Kimberly reached. As she entered, she saw William and Amelia sitting side by side with a black suit jacket lying down on the table before them.

The jacket kind of looked familiar, but she quickly dismissed it, not quite understanding the reason William kept it there.

William was a cautious man though he had an eccentric nature, hence he wouldn’t do anything that will hurt his ego or his interest.

Hence the fact that this jacket was here was intentional on his part. Perhaps an attempt to make her situation look so much worse than it ought to be. She entered the room silently leaving the door open behind her.

Just then William stood with lightning speed and slapped her across the face. The sound of the slap resonated throughout the room.

The slap made her lose her balance but she steadied herself on the wall to raise her head and see William with his arms raised for a second one.

“What? Do you really want to hit me again? Are you really sure what will come next this time?”

Her ears were ringing from the previous one she received. She glared angrily at William.

She faced William’s impending blow, her eyes were void of emotions as she spoke coldly.

Amelia intervened, holding William’s arm and leading him to the couch.

“Cousin, please calm down. Perhaps this was all just a mistake. Maybe this jacket had absolutely nothing to do with Kimberly as you can see she just came back from outside. Please just allow her to explain ok?”

William was burning in anger as he sat down with Amelia trying to calm him down.

Amelia’s tone told Kimberly that was worried as she tried to explain on her behalf. But it seemed the more she did, the more the situation felt like she was guilty of doing something to hurt William.

“Explain? There’s nothing to explain. This is a five star hotel and this is my personal room which I booked myself. So there’s absolutely no way a random customer was going to walk in and drop a jacket, is there?”

He had made sure that things moved in smoothly last night and had taken measures that no such random movements happened.

He knew that everything Amelia said was just an excuse to cover for her.

As Kimberly heard William’s words she felt her heart sink in pain.

When she was told by Marcus that this was all William’s doing, she had kept a flicker of hope that it just couldn’t be true but that flicker of hope died the moment he started speaking. This man was nothing short of a hypocrite.

“I’m telling you, I only agreed to this marriage out of the respect I have for the Caddel family and also because my grandfather was bent on building a nice relationship with them.”

William grabbed the back of the jacket and threw it on the ground, stomping on it many times.

Kimberly almost laughed loudly as she beheld the scene before him. Watching it impassively. It was evident that William was the first to violate this marriage.

William really thought that he was the one being betrayed. How could he?

“Cousin please take it easy, I’m sure there is a clear explanation to this. Why not let her explain.”

Amelia was really trying her best to defend Kimberly but the more she tried, the more it seemed like she was actually guilty of something.

“What’s there to explain? I’m going to report this matter to the Caddel family immediately.”

“Is that so? Don’t you think it will be a good idea for you to think of yours first? Like how will you explain your actions to your family?”

Kimberly’s words carried much more weight than she’d expected, causing the two in the room to feel threatened.

Is it possible to have discovered their relationship? It wasn’t possible. Very few people knew about what was going on between them.

“Do you care to tell me where you went last night? I waited for you all night but you didn’t show up. And here you are arriving in this hotel with your cousin, it’s hard not to suspect you two.”

Kimberly didn’t intend to say anything on the matter. But if she didn’t William wouldn’t give her the chance to explain and they might just pile up allegations against her.

She couldn’t explain much anyway, especially not with the marks on her body.

William felt a speck of guilt from within, though it wasn’t the first time.

“Something very important came up last night, can you stop making a big deal out of it?” William was clearly panicking. Strains of sweat dropped slowly from his forehead flowing gently until it reached the ground. “And what could I possibly do, she really wanted to see you. Where are you expecting me to refuse?”

“I never said so, I was saying the obvious, not really demanding any explanation.”

His gaze was evasive, and he instinctively pushed aside thoughts of the suit jacket.

“Since you guys are done looking can you both now leave?”

She silently walked into the room and started packing a few of the things she’d brought last night.

She had really thought that she would spend quite a nice time in this hotel but guess it was just too much of a thought to be true.

She clearly wasn’t in the mood to deal with them anymore.

As she came out, they instinctively separated as though they had just finished discussing something.

They looked so guilty but Kimberly pretended as though she didn’t see anything as she walked past them heading for the door.

“There is a party tonight, be sure to attend and put on your best attire.”

Kimberly smiled calmly before leaving.

William and Amelia both heaved a sigh of relief but for some reason they couldn’t help meditating on the thought that she might have found out about their relationship.

Though the question that bothered their mind was who could have possibly told her? Those who knew weren’t acquaintances of Kimberly hence there were little chances for them to expose them.

They sat down totally at a loss as to what Kimberly’s next move will be.
