THE GREAT SURPRISE

Chapter 2

The day went by slowly, Suzy couldn’t contain her excitement about the wedding article she’s supposed to write. Then she couldn’t control her mind and heart; they were occupied with Tyler. The owner of Tyler’s Bed & Breakfast who’s thirty-two years old; absolutely, deliciously single for most of his life. His portrait sank into her body like warm chocolate being caressed with heat and marshmallows. ‘I have to get that guy out of my mind. I’m not going to Tyler’s Bed & Breakfast for Tyler’s Bed and Sexy Breakfast. I need to stay focus on Skylar’s and Matt’s wedding and do a superb job on the article before Chloe cuts my butt loose from NCS Magazine,’ Suzy reminded herself and cleared her desk waving the girls goodbye.

An hour later, she packed her luggage walking out of her apartment room. She wore her favourite outfit: a white and pink striped blouse, fitted blue jeans, boots and her shoulders’ length black hair in ponytail covered by a blue cap with dark shades. Exiting the building she boarded the cab that took her to the airport. Ten minutes later, she was flying to Canada, enjoying the company of the young woman named Rosa Cruz who held onto her toddler, Tanner. He played with his bear, Toby and toy truck.

‘So you’re spending Christmas in Carnie Cave Valley?’ Rosa asked.

Suzy nodded, ‘Yeah’ and thought, 'I can’t tell her I’m a fashion journalist going undercover as an employee at Tyler’s Bed & Breakfast to befriend the bride and groom to get a decent article about their romance life and wedding. She looked at Rosa smiled. ‘Why are you visiting there?’

‘Actually, I’m dropping off my nephew at my aunt’s place. So I can spend my Christmas Eve with my boyfriend. Why are you going there?’ She explained.

Suzy didn’t want to lie, she always had a guilty conscience when she did it and Rosa wholeheartedly told her plans. She thought, ‘Since I need the story I’ll tell her I’m job hunting and some parts of my broken engagement.’ She didn’t want to talk about it but she wanted someone sympathy on the situation. ‘I’m looking for a job. My fiancé calls off our engagement and, Christmas didn’t seem like much right now for me.’

Rosa's mouth opened sadly, ‘What an ass? He got cold feet, didn’t he? Or probably mess around with another woman? I’ll be dang if I didn’t pull the trigger on his ass, he’s lucky I’m not you’ and she looked at the Suzy who agreed with a smile.

‘He should thank the heavens for that. However, this trip is to forget about him and move on with my life,’ Suzy answered honestly.

Rosa understood, ‘I would do the same too but Carnie Cave Valley is crawling with hot guys. I don’t think you would remain single for long, honey.’

‘Haven’t got plans for dating, anyway. I’m not going to waste my life on, Mr. Right, who’s basically a myth in my book,’ Suzy assured.

Rosa smirked, ‘Sweetheart, trust me, your Mr. Right exists in Carnie Cave Valley. He’s going to mark you as his sooner than you think.’

‘We’ll see about, Rosa,’ Suzy laughed not believing in what she said. Somewhere her heart agreed with her assumption.
