The Good Girl's Revenge

Chapter 467

"If you want to stay here with your mother, you can take a long vacation. I'll take care of the company.”

Meredith shook her head.

This was nothing to Derek. But since she was the new design director, people would gossip about her if she disappeared for a long time before making any achievements.

Meredith didn't doubt that Derek could handle this, but she owed him a favor again.

Her mother didn't want to owe him a single cent even when she was sick. How could she feel free to enjoy the privilege?

"No, mom's illness takes time. I'm leaving my job for a long time. I don't want the company to suffer a loss because of me."

Derek wanted to say something more, but Meredith interrupted him.

"Besides, I don't like the competitive atmosphere. Everyone is fighting. I'm afraid I'll lose myself if I stay here.”

Hearing what Meredith said, Derek didn't know how to reply.

He knew she had always disliked the infighting, but he still felt uneasy when she suddenly said she wanted to resign.

He felt Meredith had somewhat changed in just a few hours, and he had mixed feelings about it. "Since you say so, ... I will keep your position for you. You're welcome to come back at any time." Seeing that Derek insisted, Meredith said nothing more.

The company belonged to Derek, and she couldn't get involved in anything he wanted to do.

It was awkward between them. Just as they were silent, Meredith's cell phone rang.

Easton called.

The kindergarten was over, and Easton arrived home. He was unhappy when he found that both Meredith and Derek were not there.

Did they go out to spend time together and left him behind?

"Hello, Easton.”

Meredith could tell that Easton was in a bad mood. She had been down, but then she felt a little relieved.

In any case, she was still full of hope when she heard Easton's childish yet energetic voice.

"Mom, where have you been? I'm back. Why isn’t anyone here? Did you go out and forget about me?"

Easton said childishly.

Meredith thought for a moment. "Actually, it's your grandmother. She's sick, and she just had an operation. We were at the hospital to see her."

Easton became anxious and asked, "What? Grandma is sick? Why didn't you tell me! I'll be there right away!"

Easton didn't spend much time with Amelia, but Amelia loved him and was nice to him. Easton was her daughter's only child. Every time they met, Amelia would give Easton the best thing she could. Easton was a sensible child. He was worried about his grandma.

"Your grandma is asleep. Maybe another day.”

Derek shook his head. He planned to bring Easton to the hospital. Amelia was Easton's grandmother, so how could Easton not pay a visit? But Amelia refused. She was afraid her skinny appearance would scare the child.

Easton replied, "When grandma gets better, you must take me to see her.”

Both adults promised him.

Coincidentally, Meredith had some things to do. It was inconvenient for Derek to be here. "Easton must be bored and lonely at home. You should go home and stay with him. I want to stay with mom today and look after her.”

Derek wanted to stay with her, but he didn't insist since Meredith said so.

Meredith seemed to be anxious, so he asked with doubt, "Are you... Hiding something from me?" Meredith had been thinking about what Amelia said about Parker. Hearing Derek's question, she was shocked but still denied it subconsciously. “No.”

Derek narrowed his eyes.

She said no, but he didn't believe her.

"Really?"

Derek slowly walked over. Meredith was startled, but Derek slowly pushed her to the corner. "What are you doing?"

Meredith swallowed as she watched the handsome face get closer.

She had nowhere to step back.

Meredith reached out and pushed his strong chest. "We're in the hallway. Stop it."

"I don't like that you keep something from me. What were you thinking just now?"

Derek ignored her weak resistance but moved closer. The warm breath blew past Meredith's fair neck, and she flinched.

She got nervous.

No one could resist Derek's charm within such a close distance.

However, Meredith was only absentminded for a moment, then pinched her arm to regain her senses.

"I think I have the right to preserve my privacy.”

Meredith looked at him without fear or guilt in her eyes. Her clear eyes seemed to see through his heart.

Derek suddenly straightened out his thinking.

If he forced her, he would probably ruin the harmony between him and Meredith. Their relationship might become tense again.

After all, both of them had suffered a lot due to his entanglement.

After a moment of the standoff, Derek gave up. He took a step back and said, "I see. I'll go back and be with Easton.”

Meredith let out a sigh of relief.

The relationship between Parker and Derek was awkward. She could tell him and cause the conflict between them again.

"If you have any problems here, call me anytime, okay?"

Derek straightened his sleeves, then reached out to straighten Meredith's clothes.

"Okay."

Meredith didn't refuse. She nodded slightly and watched Derek leave. When he walked out of the hospital door, she went to look for the nanny as Amelia required.

"Are you looking for me?"

Knowing that Meredith was looking for her, Laura came over without delay. Meredith looked at the nanny and knitted her brows.

The woman looked like she was in her early thirties. She was more like a white-collar woman than a nanny. Although she had been doing some chores, she was not unkempt at all. Instead, she looked neat.

Meredith had a hunch that this woman was not simple.

"Well, you are Laura. It's you who has been taking care of my mother, right?"

Laura was dumbfounded when Meredith said that she was Amelia's daughter.

"Who did you said ... you are?"
