The Good Girl's Revenge

Chapter 291

Did he hurt Meredith?

Parker didn't want to think about these, but his mind kept replaying the scene which happened back then.

If he hadn't insisted on leaving with Meredith and if he hadn't called at that time, maybe nothing would have happened to her.

Parker fell to the ground, feeling guilty and regretful.

After a while, Derek calmed down. "Let go."

The men hesitantly let go. Derek immediately invited the most professional rescue teams. Now, time was life. He couldn't wait, and Meredith couldn't afford it even more.

Soon, foreign rescue teams arrived and began to salvage the river.

It began to rain again, but Derek stood by the river, waiting for the results.

Parker's mood was complicated when he saw Xavier's solemn expression.

What he had said to this man was now ironic. He said he would never hurt Meredith, but now, it was him who made her life uncertain.

If something really happened to Meredith, he wouldn't be able to pay back even if he died ten thousand times.

Parker approached Derek step by step. "What if she really dies?"

"I don't believe she's dead. It's impossible.”

Derek didn't have an umbrella. Raindrops fell from his hair and dripped along the tight lines of his face.

Parker didn't say anything, and the two of them just waited in the rain for the results.

After a long time and until it was getting dark and everything became extremely blurry, the rescue team slowly went ashore, "Only found some debris, I'm afraid..."

"Look again.”

Derek said expressionlessly, glancing at the fragments left by the cars after the strong clashing without blinking.

He had experienced all the ups and downs of his life in the past few days. First, he thought that Meredith was still alive, thinking about how to start over with her in the future. Then, it was a terrible car accident, and now he couldn't find her anywhere.

Was this a silly joke made by God?

Derek didn't believe in fate, so he had to keep looking.

"But it's too dark now, even if we keep looking..."

"I said, go on!"

Derek said coldly. He was like a gambler who put all his chips on it. There are hints of madness. Rescue teams came here for a very generous reward which could be regarded as a windfall. Seeing that Derek was so stubborn, they had no choice but to continue to salvage.

Time went on and it was late at night.

Derek's body gradually lost its temperature in the cold rain, and everything in front of him began to blur.

But the man didn't want to find a place to hide from the rain. He just stood straight there like a statue.

He was both supervising those people and doing a useless form of self-punishment.

He couldn't help but wonder whether he had pushed her too hard. If he hadn't been so anxious and forced Meredith to stay by his side, she wouldn't have wanted to run away and wouldn't have encountered such a thing.

All sorts of messy thoughts intertwined, causing Derek to have a splitting headache. Finally, his tall body shook. It was as if he could not bear this kind of torture. He fell down.

Fortunately, someone on the side saw that he was about to fall and immediately stepped forward to hold him up. The man only to find that Xavier's skin was cold. And in order not to cause more trouble, Derek was immediately sent to the hospital.

Derek woke up in the hospital ward.

He opened his eyes and saw a pure white ceiling. That color was like the color heaven, pure but cold.

For a moment, he thought he was dead too. He died in that place with the woman who disappeared.

"Derek, don't scare me."

Violet stayed by the bed. When she saw that Derek open his eyes, she pounced on him. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying and staying up late. They were swollen like walnuts.

The way Derek lay on the bed made her recall things during that three years when he was bedridden. It could be said that things now were even more frightening than that.

Derek, who had been sent to the hospital at that time, was pale and had no temperature on his body. He was like a ghost, and these were all the punishments he gave himself.

"Did you find it?"

Derek's eyes were open. He just asked like this but his voice was faint. It was as if he had not seen Violet's grief.

"No. It has already been like that. How can we find it?"

Violet knew who his son was concerned about without even asking.

Meredith, that woman, had clearly agreed to play dead and had promised not to appear in front of Xavier again. Why did Meredith go back on her word?

"What about downstream? Did you send someone to guard there?"

As Derek thought, he wanted to sit up. The river must be very cold now. Meredith's body was so weak. How could she stand it?

"Why are you still caring about her? Can't you just care about your body and stop making me worry about you?"

Violet hurriedly pressed Derek onto the bed. He was still having a high fever and he still wanted to get out of bed. He was risking his health.

"Mother, you know that, don't you?"

Derek's body was weak for a while, and he was held down by Violet. He could not struggle, so he did not do anything else. Instead, he looked at Violet who was by the bed with his black eyes. Violet was the one who knew what happened when Meredith was giving birth best. Naturally, she knew the truth about whether Meredith was dead or not.

But just in order to make him do what she wanted, she kept hiding that truth.

Violet hesitated and said intermittently, "I did it for your own good."

"Unfortunately, that is too good for me to accept.”

When Derek heard Violet's words, he was not surprised at all, but in the end, he still felt very tired. It was a feeling of exhaustion from the inside out.

No matter when and no matter what she did, his mother always suppressed all his resistance by using 'For Your Own Good". It was as if that it was a monstrous crime if he did anything against her will.

"But I... Didn't expect anything to happen to her.”

Violet was a little scared. If Derek was agitated and had a big fight with her, maybe she wouldn't be so flustered. But now, looking at her son who remained calm, she had a feeling of fear.

Something seemed to be slowly changing in this calm.

"Maybe Meredith was right. To her, the Xaviers was her doom. She was wrongly imprisoned and she almost lost her life in parodynia, and she lost her child...”

"Now, she's lost her life. The Xaviers really owes her too much.”

"Derek, don't be like this. Seeing you like this makes me feel so worried and scared."
