The Goddess of Beasts.

Chapter Chapter Seven.

After hours of reading, I have yet to find my answer. It was now three, in the afternoon, and it was time to go home. Daniel had been calling me throughout the day, but I ignored him. If I told him where I was, he would come to pick me up. And start lecturing me, especially because he caught me kissing Alexander. He made it very clear that he doesn't like him.

They are new, to school and they had the whole female population at their feet. But the boys acted as if they had a rivalry for years. I grabbed the last book, that I had on the table; the one with the mythical creatures.

These things don't exist, right? I laughed to myself.

Without hesitation, I placed it back on the shelf. Just because I wasn't able to find an answer, does not mean I will believe in mythical creatures.

I gathered my things and made my way home. By the time I arrive, it would have been as if I had gone to school. But I share a class with Samantha, and she is going to tell my stepmother, that I wasn't there. Coming up with an excuse wouldn't be a problem; the problem would be if she believes me. Especially with the rumor that Alexander and I were together; had gone around, school. And Samantha is going to be pissed.

When I got home, Isadora and Samantha had yet to arrive. I finished the last things; on my list of chores and started on their dinner. The lasagna was in the oven and should be ready within thirty minutes. Going up to my room, my phone started to ring. Daniel’s silly picture popped up on my home screen. I knew I had to answer him, or he wouldn't stop calling. He would even dare to visit me, while the she-devils are here.

“Hello?” I said, pulling the phone towards my ear.

“Where the fuck have you been? I have been looking for you everywhere!” Daniel yelled into the speaker.

“I came home. I wasn't feeling good, but I am fine now. Do not worry; I will see you at school tomorrow.” I said. Lying to my best friend.

“Bullshit. I went to go check on you, where the fuck are you?” Daniel’s voice came out more like a growl.

“You fucken bitch!” Samantha yelled at the top of her lungs as she walked through the front door.

“Look, I have to go,” I said in a whisper before hanging up.

When I left my room Samantha was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs, ready to kill me. Her face was bright red like a tomato. Her eyes blazing like the fires from hell. Isadora was lying lazily on the couch; waiting to see her daughter in action. When I got off the last step, Samantha slapped me across the face.

“Why the fuck did I hear from a group of freshman girls. That you were ALONE with my Alex?” Giving me another slap.

“If I see you; or hear that, you go near him again. Trust me, you will not be walking to school,” Samantha warned me.

“I was only alone with him because he asked me your whereabouts,” I lied.

I had to. She will continue slapping me. Not caring if she leaves any scratches or bruises.

“Oh, he did?” Her attitude completely changed. She went from an angry, cold-hearted bitch; to a confused, surprised fan.

“Yes, I just told him that we get to school at different times. Because I needed to study more.” I lied once more, but they kept coming.

“Then why did you miss a class? Your teacher called, he was worried. He said you did not look too good.” Isadora said, getting up from the sofa.

“I stayed at the nurse’s office, she let me lay down. I was feeling dizzy. “ Please believe me, please believe me. I prayed.

Without a second thought, they both left me standing in front of the door. Heading to the kitchen, I grabbed the garlic bread, and the lettuce to finish the meal. While I was slicing the lettuce I cut my finger; I quickly moved to the sink to wash off the blood. When I grabbed the bandaid, there was no longer a cut. No scar. I looked back at the cutting board, you can see where the blood dripped off my finger.

What the hell.

I finished preparing the food; when I was ready to pull the lasagna out of the oven. The familiar heat reminded me when I took out the casserole, without any gloves. I had burned my hands, and I only remember running cold water over them. How am I not in pain? I must have forgotten because I was too tired.

But how did I heal so fast?

I made the stupid decision to take out the lasagna without mittens. The room filled with the smell of burning flesh. The stinging pain; made me bite the bottom lip drawing blood. I placed the lasagna over the stove and I looked at my hands. They were bright red with giant blisters, slowly the red started to disappear. Looking at the back of my hand for a second, I can still feel the pain. But when I had flipped back, everything had disappeared. The giant blisters did not exist; the redness was completely gone.

I finished the plating and ran to my room in a panic. I told Isadora that I felt sick, and she said that she didn't want to be near me. She didn't want me to throw up on her perfectly clean carpet. This was a one-time excuse and I would have to finish the dishes tomorrow morning. Without another word, I ran to my room. Locking the door behind me. I went to the bathroom, stared at myself in the mirror, and started to panic.

Who the hell do I go to? I look the same. It is not like I have changed. I started pacing around my room, and that is when I decided to sneak out. I needed to get that book. Getting past my house was easy. I just needed to be careful that they are nowhere near the window. As soon as, the house was out of sight. I started to running towards the library, splashing in puddles from the rain from earlier. Ignoring the pain from my legs, I pushed myself to move faster. I had to get to the library in time.

The sky was quickly getting dark. I barely made it to the library in time, heading straight to the place where I had left it. I quickly went to check out the book, the lady behind the counter looked annoyed. I was the only one that was left in the library, and I was preventing her from closing.

“Thank you,” I muttered.

I stood by the door reading the cover, ‘The mythical History.’ I started to flip the pages; when the librarian told me that I had to leave. I closed the book, and I stepped outside. The rain slowly started to pour outside. If I ran I would be able to make it home without getting the book getting wet. Shoving it into my jacket, I started running when I slammed against a human wall and fell on my butt.

“Watch where you are going,” I said, getting up, dusting myself.

“Sorry, love. But you were the one that wasn't watching where you're going,” Alexander said, making me look up quickly.

“Sorry I am in a rush.” Hiding the book in my jacket.

He was still wearing the same clothes that he had at school. This time, he had his leather jacket on. Covering the tight black shirt he had on.

“Where are you off to in such a rush?” Alexander asked, placing a loose strand of my hair, behind my ear.

“Home, I kind of sneaked out.” Laughing nervously.

“Mhmm, do we have a bad girl here?” Alexander asked, giving me the most gorgeous smile.

“I kind of have to talk to you,” I said nervously, not knowing where to start.

“Here is my number. I have to run, but call me when you get home.” Without thinking, he gave me a quick peck on my lips. Leaving me standing there like a statue; while he ran off with his friends.

The rain started to pour down. I ran as fast as I could towards the house. My hair was soaking wet. I quickly dried off the book. The book was unharmed. Alexander’s number, on the other hand, got a little smudge, but I was able to read it.

I sent a message to Alexander, letting him know that I had arrived home. I looked at the silly book on my desk.

Do I want to read it?
