Chapter An Intrigued Witch

Max POV

I would have kissed her if I had not sensed the Omega outside with our dinner. Talk about perfect timing. I frustrated sighed, and Ares came to my mind. “I think you should read the book “the perfect mate” to learn everything because you are not doing a good job, Kid. I am sure our library has it.”

Setting the table, I rolled my eyes. “Ares, there is not such a book. Can you let me think because you are not helping?”

“Well, you better find one, kid. Or this overwhelming feeling won’t go away.”

“We feel what she feels, and you read her thoughts. She still thinks we are rejecting her.” He stood up, ready to fight me on this. “Hold on there, Max. There is no “we” I was never going to reject her.”

“I know it is all my fault, Ares. Can you get over it already? Do you think after the mating, this will go away?” Ares relaxed again and sat down thinking. “I am not sure, Max.”

“Ares, you have become useless and cannot even help me with a simple task. Should you not be an expert in mating?” I groaned. “I am good at accepting what the Moon Goddess gave us. You are the one that has got us into this situation. Now, where are we with all the preparations? Have those pups gone back to work?”

He lifted his head in superiority. “I wanna everything of the best for our mate, and I want the council out of here before it. Their presence here is what is causing her so much discomfort.”

Julie’s thoughts were loud and clear. She thinks they would be leaving with her from here. I knew Ares was right. I finished preparing the table for us; that was my first time arranging a table. Julie was still inside the water, and even after what I said, she had concerns about her role as a Luna. I knew that was entirely my fault, and I concentrated on the mate bond, giving her comfort.

I felt her leaving the water, and while I waited for her to get dressed, I mindlinked Terry. “Where are we with the claim, Terry? Ares, will not have them here for the Luna Ceremony. They better leave my territory before it. Jules isn’t feeling well with their presence here.”

“They are all here in the dining hall expecting your presence. And may I add sitting on your table just wanting for the Alpha.” I massaged my forehead. I knew they would be at dinner. That was precisely why I asked dinner to be brought to us. “Make an excuse, Terry. Julie is not well.”

“Right. There is something else. Kell and Ferdinand will return to the Capital, but Jordan and Robbie are heading elsewhere. An Omega heard Jordan talking to Robbie, but she couldn’t hear where. Jordan stopped talking when he sensed her presence. But it is not good. Where would they go together?” I knew Jordan was up to something. It was like I could feel it. Robbie only goes anywhere when they need someone killed. If Julie were a Witch, he would have killed her to ensure we would not mate. The investigations only started now. They would wait to be heading to take Michael.

“Try to find out what they are up to. Julie is exhausted, and we are going to stay here. Tell them I will see them off tomorrow.” I saw Julie coming wearing her pyjamas and had to cut the mindlink. She entered the dining room and said. “I am sorry if I took too long.”

I pulled her a chair and said. “You don’t need to apologise for anything, Julie. You can just be yourself. It is your pack too, and you can do anything you like.”

She looked around, and I remembered that was the first time she saw this side of the Alpha’s wing. I plated our food, and it smelled delicious. I was sure the Omegas had made an extra effort for her. The pack was doing anything to make her feel welcome.

She kept looking at me with big grey eyes, and I was waiting for her to take the first bite for me to start and just realised she still needed to learn our laws and traditions. “It is customary here that the Luna takes the first bite from the food the Alpha has provided. It pleasures us to know you are satisfied.” She gave me a shy smile and took the first bite.

“Julie, we need to talk about what you want to be done with the Woodland. You have offered your pack before, but Aphrodite thinks differently. She wanted Ares to kill them all. Is that what you want? Should I kill Michael and everyone in it?” I could feel she was anxious, but I knew the council would want us to state what needed to be done there.

She looked down at her food, and I knew what she was thinking. “No, uncle Michael was the only one that hurt me. Nobody else did.” I held my fork with so much force trying to control my anger, that it bent. And with much difficulty, I spoke without being harsh. “Don’t call him that. He is a monster. He is not your uncle.”

“Once the council takes Michael. I can send my father there till we think about what to do with the pack. Woodland is a peaceful pack. They will not fit here or want to live as warriors, and I don’t want to disturb their lives. We can station a Beta there, or an ambassador would be wiser.” I looked at her, and she was paying attention to anything I was saying, but I knew she was not getting what I was saying. She had to learn so many things.

I could feel her embarrassment before she answered. “I am sorry. I don’t know anything about those decisions. My father taught me about maps, what each pack was good at, and our laws. I do not know about the council and many things.”

I held her hands, regretting I had started this conversation. I did not want her to feel worse than earlier. “You don’t need to feel embarrassed, Julie. You were a pup when things were taken from you. And the essential quality in a Luna is kindness, and you have shown it to the Blue Moon already.”

I moved her plate further and offered my hand. She needed rest. “I think we should sleep. You will feel better tomorrow.” She obediently took my hand and went to the left side of the bed. I got into the covers, too, and today was the first time I was getting in bed before she was asleep. “Kid.”

“Ares, I know what you will ask, and the answer is no. We can’t mate her today.” He sighed, displeased, but we had to wait till the Luna Ceremony. I had already marked her before it. I pulled her closer to me and buried my nose in her hair, taking her scent in to calm me down. She was stiff, and I said. “We always stay like that, but you are asleep to see it.”

I calmed her through the mate bond and felt her body relax. Everything was difficult, and I knew I had to have patience with her. It was not her fault she felt like that or did not know anything we all knew.

Julie POV

“Wake up, Jules. We need to leave.” With much difficulty, I opened my eyes. I felt so tired. I looked to the side of the bed, and it was empty. Max was not in the room. “What is going on? Where is Max?”

“Max is fighting. There are rogues at the border, and it is only a distraction. Jules, the Witch, is intrigued about us, and she is doing it to get a reaction from me. Go to the window. We need to get out of here fast.”

I quickly moved and opened the window. “We are too high, Aphrodite. We will get hurt. I have never done that before.”

“I know, sweetie, but there is no other way. You must be brave and jump.” Fear crossed my body, and I sat on the window, dangling my legs out, but I could not jump. “We do not have time, Jules. We are in danger. We have endured much worse. Now jump.”

She seemed restless, walking in circles, and I had never seen her like that before. I looked down again. We were too high. What if we died? “Aphrodite, I can smell warriors guarding the corridor. We are safe here, and we don’t need to jump.”

“You need to trust me, Jules. The Witch will kill the warriors to provoke a reaction, and I can’t protect them without her feeling my power. They have mates, and we must celebrate our Luna Ceremony, not comfort families at a funeral. Now, be brave and jump.”

I took a deep breath. My body was so tired, and so much fear consumed me thinking the Witch would kill us. I looked down one more time and jumped. My shoulder landed on the concrete, and I heard the bones breaking. I muffed my cries.

“I know you are hurt and tired. But you must run as fast as possible to the woods towards the lake. We need to mask our scent till Ares comes for us. He will feel that you are hurt and will search for us. Our mate will not disappoint. Come on, girl.”

It was hard to stand, but I did it and started to run. The sharp pain radiated through my upper body, and I begged her to take over. “Can you take over and shift? I am not feeling well.” I had never felt so tired and did not know what was happening to me. “I cannot, Julie. If I use my powers, she will find us. The Witch is counting on it. I can feel it.”

Aphrodite was quiet, and I was unsure if she was trying to reach Ares. I ran as fast as my legs allowed me. I could hear the fight and wolves howling. My head was heavy, and I was confused and could not know from what part of the border the rogues were attacking. After a few minutes of running, we found the lake.

“Jump into it, Jules. I can sense rogues closer. We need to mask our scent.” I got into the cold water, and it wasn’t easy getting out of it only using my good arm. “Why am I feeling like this? It is not just the pain. My body is so tired.”

“Is because Ares is fighting. He is feeding from you. You will be all right after the mating is complete. He will not need you anymore.”

“Why does he need us, A? I don’t understand.”

“Because he would be punished if he had not accepted his gift. If he had rejected us, it would have weakened him and the Blue Moon till their extinction. This power, before the mating, is only a taste of what he will become. We are paired with him to prevent things from happening and achieve something great. Chaos is coming, Jules; our mate is the key to everything.”

She moved her head to the side. “Get under those big logs, Jules. They are close.” I was small and would fit under the logs. I hope the water had masked at least some of our scent. I crawled under it and bit my lips to muff my screams whenever my broken shoulder bumped into the ground. “I am scared, A. Is Ares coming?” Rogues are filthy wolves that do not go by our laws, and they would not hurt me as uncle Michael did. They would kill me.

I did not know if what we did was right. We ran from the pack house, and now if Ares had sensed our danger and pain, he would have to leave the border and his duties in protecting the pack and come to our rescue. Or if he did not sense it because he was fighting, we would be killed. With my broken shoulder, I could not outrun other wolves.

I saw brown wolves coming in our direction, the stench of rogues all over the place. My body trembled from fear, and Aphrodite whispered. “It is the prophecy. It is starting.” When I was about to ask what she meant, I felt heavy paws making the ground shake like it was an earthquake and Aphrodite smiled. “He is here.”

I could see only the glowing golden eyes running in our direction. That was the first time I had seen Ares in wolf form. He was massive. I thought he was going to stop, but no, he increased the pace and hit the side of one wolf with his head making them all fall. Before I could blink my eyes, he had killed them all with his canines, and Aphrodite must have sensed my fear and said. “Don’t be afraid, Jules. He will never hurt us.”

“Sorry I could not post yesterday. My internet box broke, and I had to collect a new one today. Some of the answers were very close regarding Jordan, and I loved how creative you guys are. In the next chapter, you find out what he is up to. Don’t go anywhere. Another chapter is coming in a few minutes. 😉😉
