The Girl and The Fox

Chapter 11

Isabella scampered into the nearest bush, itching to get away from the soon decaying bodies. She started whimpering, salty tears slopping down her face, staining her fragile skin red and blotchy. She was a twelve year old girl and she had already made her first kill. First few, actually. She tried desperately to calm herself down before anyone came, but she was too late. She heard the trees swaying to the beat of their steps. Agile feet were making their way across the foliage, producing the soothing crunching noise of the forest.

The sound came to a halt. Isabella peered through the thick layer of leaves blocking her view, scratching away her face and hair. Scarlett and Eric were standing there, looking around at her bloody work.

Eric just sighed and said 'Let's get back then. We will lay our hands on that wretched girl at some time, maybe not today or tomorrow, but one day we will.' Her wretched father clicked his fingers twice, and a portal appeared. As Isabella practically lived in Fantasy books, she was in heaven with this sight. The portal's rim was a dark grey/black. Imagine someone was crying, but had mascara on. It would be dripping down their face, blackening the skin for days to come. The centre, however, was a sort of silver. The type of silver that you would say 'I need that to show my parents how successful I can be,' but then that piece of silver would be poisonous and either kill you or your parents. Basically I am saying never get silver to show people how successful you are, or never get silver at all, because someone will get hurt.

The father and daughter entered the portal, the void swallowing them whole. Then silence engulfed the trees, no birds or animals daring to make a sound, breaking the bond.

After the red-heads had vanished completely, the shivering girl thought it was safe to come out, just to be met by buckets of rain gushing down on her head aiming to snap her neck. Isabella stared longingly at the opening. This could be her only chance to live a fantasy life, her last chance to explore magic, one chance to find her broken family's world.

As Isabella poked her hand through the magical opening, she felt as if someone was coating her hand in soft slime. She stepped through the invisible force field and towering above her was another mansion, just like her house, but colossal. The castle loomed over her, the eerie atmosphere chilling her to the bone. The bricks were black, covered with soot that had never been cleaned. The windows were glass panes, most of the dark curtains drawn, but a few near the bottom open. Through the open curtains were wolves heads hung on stakes. Lots and lots of wolf heads, some with fresh blood on them. Outside the fortress were guards. Those eagles roamed the grounds, waiting for a new worm to catch their eye. No little children played around in the wide, green fields, not any friends in sight. The only people, other than the guards, who were outside were what looked like a training army.

Isabella's heart sank. She shouldn't have come here, she shouldn't have left home, she shouldn't have let the guards catch her. They stalked up to her, their eyes sharp, cutting through the air as scissors. The hybrid didn't know how to react. She watched them advance, frozen to the spot, sparks of fear setting her stomach alight. If her father caught her she would surely be slaughtered, but if she went back to her mother she would beat her until she no longer breathed.

One of the guards shoved his spear to her throat, piercing the skin, whilst the other bound her hands behind her back. They lead her through the training army grounds where everyone stared at her like a new born puppy. Eventually, they came to the door, which was slammed open before they could open it, and out came her father with an angry expression on his face.

'Do you know how many valuable men of mine you killed? If we don't have enough men, how are we meant to win this war?!' He threw at her.

Stunned, the animal didn't know what to say, except, 'What war?'

'The war that has been leading up for centuries. The war that will decide whether the foxes or wolves are better. The war where the wolves will go extinct. Where you will go extinct,' her father replied. 'Take her to the dungeons. Don't give her anything she asks, no food or water. She will be starved until she comes up with something useful for us to win this war with. Or she will die.'

Now Isabella knew that her poor excuse of a father was really a psycho killer. Why would he risk killing his own daughter? Well, he does have one to spare.

What will happen to Isabella? Find out in the next chapter... or it might be a few as we don't know what is happening to Lizzie.

I've been thinking of names for background characters, unimportant ones like random foxes and wolves, but I'm not doing very well. I was hoping you might be able to help me and tell me some names. I'm terrible at finding names and have even used random name generators before, but their names are terrible. I hope you will be able to help me:)
