Chapter 33
"As you may have learned, I am running for student council president. I am also having a party this weekend, and I hope you all will attend!" she said in the microphone, looking around the cafeteria and listening to the cheering of everyone. Katie descended from the table and returned the microphone to the Vice Principal, who smiled.
Ella rolled her eyes, "I am for sure going, even though I hate her. I need to get drunk."
"I'll come with you if Kylan doesn't want to go," Bradley added, glancing over to find Jonah sitting with his other group of friends. He shook his head, "I'm still completely shocked that you beat up his ex-girlfriend."
"It felt great," she chuckled, stealing another one of his chips, to which he narrowed his eyes at her, "What? I'm hungry."
"I literally went to go buy some earlier and asked if you wanted a pack, and you said no."
She shrugged her shoulders, "I wasn't hungry then."
He saw her pouting face, and as per usual, it caused him to feel sorry for her and handed her the rest of his pack, to which she beamed, grabbing it and beginning to munch on the chips that there was left. He laughed when he saw her cheeks puffing because of all the food in her mouth and reached over, poking them. After a short pause, he said, "When are we going to tell them about us?"
Ella's face fell, and she furrowed her eyebrows, "Not any time soon."
"Why not?" He raised an eyebrow, "Kylan doesn't seem like the type of guy that would be mad over that."
"It's not about Kylan."
"Then what it is about?" he asked in confusion, observing the manner she nervously shuffled in her seat. When she did not respond, he rolled his eyes, "Whatever, but if anybody asks me if we have something going on, I'm saying yes."
"You better not."
"Or what, babe, you're going to beat me up?" She growled at him as a response. He smirked, standing to his feet, "Be nice, I gave you the rest of my chips. I have to go, though. I need to study for my quiz next period. I love you," he whispered and pressing his thumb against her forehead, a sign of affection since they could not kiss in public yet, and he marched away from the table.
It was the fourth day in a row that Kylan had not been at school ever since he had had that argument with Jonah. People were beginning to speculate different reasons why he was absent, and even Jonah was growing a bit worried, but they had a soccer game that day. He knew Kylan cared way too much about soccer, and it meant the world to him. He would not miss it for anything. Hence, he stood in shock; his mouth gaped open when he asked the coach where Kylan had gone, and the coach replied that he quit the team.
Jonah frowned, sprinting from the warm-up line and approaching his coach. He ushered, "What do you mean he quit?"
"You didn't know?" When Jonah shook his head, the coach sighed, "He said he was dealing with personal issues that he needed to fix. I was quite disappointed, but the kid is obviously going through an ordeal."
They lost the game, and Jonah was fuming in rage, stomping to his vehicle and drifting out of the parking lot, pressing on the accelerator a bit harder than he should. It was no surprise when he found himself in front of Kylan's home. He began pounding on the door, not caring that anybody heard, and when he heard shouting inside, and the door opened, he frowned when it was Kylan's father at the door.
"I need to see Kylan."
"Who the fuck do you think you are?" his father snarled, stepping outside and causing Jonah to take a few steps backward, "One knock next time would be absolutely fine." Jonah rolled his eyes, annoyed, "Let me see Kylan-<<
"Don't roll your eyes at me, you filthy homo. No, you cannot see Kylan-"

"Dad," Kylan said from behind him, and his father grumbled under his breath, turning around and facing his son, who had not seen daylight in four days. His father stepped aside and returned into the home, only for Kylan to appear in the doorway, nervously scratching the side of his face. He had not been sleeping well, hence why purple bags were under his eyes, and his fingers were trembling as well. He did not make any eye contact with Jonah and kept his gaze lowered at the ground.
"Do you...need something?" he asked quietly.
Jonah was unsure whether to be mad anymore, but as he remembered the horrible game they played, he gritted his teeth, "Yes, join the team again."
He shook his head, "I can't do that."
"Why not?"
He shrugged his shoulders, "I don't want to."
"We lost today."
"That's not my problem."
Jonah placed his palm on his forehead in exasperation before shaking his head, taking a deep breath, and saying, "Look, I know you're still upset, but you can't stop living your life over this." "What are you talking about?"

"You haven't been going to school. You skipped four days in a row," he said sternly, raising an eyebrow questionably, "you quit the soccer team, even though everyone knows you love the sport and would not let anything hinder that." Kylan did not respond, and Jonah stepped closer towards him, "Why are you doing all this? If you're trying to get my attention, you did."
Kylan frowned, "Why do you care?"
Jonah froze for a moment, then blinked, "What?"
"I said, why do you care?" His voice was abnormally calm, and when he raised his eyes and met Jonah's, Jonah almost fell backward, surprised by how tired and annoyed his face appeared, as if it was another Kylan who had awakened within his body. There was no joy, no nervousness either, simply boredom, as if currently talking to Jonah was a burden. Jonah frowned, wondering if that was a trick question. Until Kylan added, "We're not together anymore. Don't ever come back here again."
As Kylan attempted to close the door, Jonah yelled his name once more and said, "Let's settle this once and for all. Do you still love me? Are you still in love with me? If you say no, I'm never going to annoy or speak with you again." Kylan froze for a moment but then cleared his throat, stared deep into Jonah's gaze, and said with a loud voice, "I don't love you anymore." "You're lying to yourself."
He shrugged his shoulders, "Suit yourself." He then slammed the door shut and locked it behind him.
