The Fox and The Wolf

Chapter 26: Cold shoulder

Avery

Ashe and I walked downstairs with linked arms holding our heads high.

She thinks that if he really is cheating, which was pretty must proven, that David and Liam would know about it since they are best friends with Jake. So those three get the cold shoulder. Yippee…

A tear slips from my eye and I sniff.

“Hey hey. Don’t cry. You’re too pretty. And keep your head up, your tiara is falling.” Ashe smiles at me and wipes my tears away. “Show him you don’t need him. Show him what he’s missing. And show him that Jo matter what he does, you won’t break.”

“But I feel like I am breaking.” I say with my voice cracking at the end.

“Shh.” She pulls me in and kisses my forehead. “Come on. It’s show time babe.”

I give her my best fake smile, and she gives me a sad one before we walk into the living room.

My mom looks at me too see if I’m alright and I give her a warm smile and stay by Ashe’s side.

I watch as Sadie comes out into the living room and smirks at me before she leaves.

“Ugh. What is she doing here?” Liam sneers.

I shrug my shoulders and Ashe and I walk into the kitchen.

“Want a water?” I ask as I open the fridge.

“Ya.” She holds out her hand and I toss her one. “Thanks.”

I smile and sit down.

Jake comes running into the kitchen as he finally relax a as his eyes land on me.

“There you are.” He smiled walking up to me. “I couldn’t find you anywhere.”

“I’m sure you were.” I growled and narrowed my eyes at him.

He looks at me confused. “What do you mean?”

I close my eyes and take a deep breathe before I reopened them. “Nothing.”

“Want to go outside?” Ashe asked me.

“Please.” I practically begged laughing.

I get up and right as I turned to walk away, Jake’s hand instantly shot out and grabbed me by my elbow. I immediately feel tingles and I took a sharp intake of breath.

Breathe Avery, breathe. Show him what he’s missing.

I yanked my arm out or his grasp and he gave me a pained expression.

This is tough…

“What did I do?” He asked with a soft voice.

“Everything.” I spat and turned around.

“Hey ladies.” David greeted wiggling his eyebrows.

Ashe and I glared at him and we went around him.

“Ashe?” David asked.

Ashe ignored him and dragged me outside with her.

I could still hear David and Jake talking

“What did I do?” Jake asked.

“I don’t know. But they both completely ignored me.” David said.

Once we got outside, it felt like I could finally breathe.

“That was so hard.” I said looking back at the house.

“I know. It was for me too.” Ashe said looking at me.

“What if David doesn’t have anything to do with it. And he doesn’t know.” I said. “I don’t want to keep you from your mate.”

Ashe shook her head. “Trust me. If Jake was cheating, David and Liam would know. They are his best friends. They tell each other everything. They would know. So until we figure all this out, we are giving all three of them the cold shoulder.”

“Okay.” I nodded agreeing. “But wait.”

“What?”

“What about the sleeping arrangements?”

“Shit.” Ashe mumbled dragging her hands down her face. “We use one of the guest bedrooms.” She said looking up at me smiling.

“Sweet. Great idea.” I said.

“So what do you want to go do?” She asked.

“Want to go see a movie?” I asked.

“Let’s do it!”

“We should go find like Cory, or Trent, or someone.”

“Ya.” She beamed. “They can pay for it.” She laughed.

Jake

What the hell did I do wrong? I thought to myself as I paced back and forth in my office.

“What did you do?” David asked me while Liam stared at me.

I turned to look at them and shrugged. “I don’t know.”

“Did you forget her birthday or something?” Liam asked.

I gave him a you-are-stupid look. “Her birthday is May 9th.”

He laughed sheepishly. “Oh. Right. I totally knew that.”

I rolled my eyes. “I can’t think or anything I did.”

“Well I don’t know either. But I was like ‘hey ladies.’ Being funny and all.” He said. “But Ashe and Avery completely ignored me and went straight outside.”

“Ya. They both have been short with me too.” Liam said messing with his hands.

“What did you do Jake?” David accused.

I gaped at him. “I didn’t do anything!”

“Are you sure? I would suspect it would be you to be the first one to mess up.” Liam said leaning back in his chair.

“Her thanks guys.” I growled at them.

“Whatever. It’s getting late, and I want to talk to Ashe about what happened.” David said getting up.

“Me too. I want to talk to Avery.” I said walking out of my office.

I made it up to my room and saw Avery grabbing a pillow.

“What are you doing?” I asked as I shut the door.

She jumped and looked at me.

But I didn’t miss the glare she gave me before she quickly masked it.

“Oh. Uh Ashe and I are having a girl’s night. So we are both spending the night in one of the guest rooms.”

“Uh. Why?” I asked crossing my arms.

“I just said. To have a girl’s night.”

“Again. Why?”

“What’s wrong with doing that? We just want to hang out.”

“But I want you to sleep in here. With me.”

“Too bad.” Avery growled and stomped out of the room, slamming the door shut.

What the hell?

‘David?’ I asked through the mind link.

‘Ya?’ He answered back sounding pissed.

‘Let me guess. Ashe left you too?’

‘Yep. She and Avery are having a girl’s night.’

‘Ya. Avery glared at me before she masked it. I want to know what’s going on.’

‘Me too. Ashe is giving me the cold shoulder just like how Avery is doing it too you.’

‘I’m talking to her tomorrow no matter what.’ I growled glaring at the closed door.

‘Same here.’ David growled too.
