“Use me to your heart’s content.”

His words echoed inside my head even as I lay on the soft mattress in a chamber where I ended up sleeping. I never thought there would come a time that I would be sleeping in another man’s house but here I am, staring at the ceiling of the cozy manor in the middle of the woods.

The chamber was decent. It did not look like the horrors I imagined. The bed was big enough and the huge windows gave me a good view of the starlit sky. It was one of the reasons why I couldn’t sleep.

Other than that, the house was eerily quiet. For some reason, it gave me anxiety. He wouldn’t leave me alone in this house, right?

I pulled the blanket up to my chin and fixed my gaze on the ceiling, trying to contemplate the decisions I had made so far. But then the memory of Philip and Yvette smiling while holding hands popped up in my head and rekindled the fiery pain in my chest.

The reality settled in. No matter how much I try to tell the world I hate him, deep down, I still love Philip.

I know it sounded pathetic but nothing good ever comes out by lying how I feel. I feel betrayed and wronged but I still love him. I was still hoping this was just a bad dream. But it wasn’t. And I wish that unloving someone could be easy. I wish that when I wake up the next morning, my feelings for Philip would suddenly vanish. Then there

would only be just fury and that alone will fuel me to exact my revenge.

My thoughts drifted back to Andreas. He mentioned something about taking his revenge as well. He said they did something unforgivable to him. I couldn’t help but wonder what that would be.

Anxious, I got up and took the candelabra from the bedside table. My footsteps were silent as I made my way out of the room and into the hall where the coachman named Aiden led me. As of the moment, I am on the second floor of the manor and Aiden should be sleeping on the first floor. I did not ask where Andreas was sleeping to not give Aiden the wrong idea.

The candle provided little light but it was enough for me to see the way and avoid tripping. As I made my way downstairs, the house was even quieter. The foyer was dark and the only light was the moonlight from the huge

windows.

I know I should be in my chamber but I could not sleep and many things are running inside my head. Taking a

I took the left hall and walked in silence, looking at the landscape paintings hung over the wall. They were sceneries that seemed almost magical. Arrays of paintings filled the walls of the hall until I reached the end of it where the largest painting was placed.

It was a painting of a wonderful kingdom. The moon glowed too brightly-its beauty perfectly captured by the seat branching to every corner of the city. The lights from the houses glowed yellow and orange, creating a dreamy atmosphere. As I looked further into what looked like a cliff, a palace stood proudly. A person was standing in front of it and before I could even take a closer look, I heard the door opening, followed by footsteps from the foyer.

Muttering several curses inside my head, I frantically searched for a place to hide.

Just when I was about to give up, I saw a door carefully hidden by the dark surroundings. Without wasting any second, I opened the door, blew the candle out, and hid, planting myself against the cold wooden door. My hand went to my chest, feeling its thunderous beat.

I swallowed hard listening to the nearing footsteps. Then I realized there was no need for me to hide if it was just Andreas. Surely, he’s not going to kill me if he finds me in here-

I stopped my train of thoughts when a giggle echoed in the hall outside. I have not heard Andreas giggle but I am sure as hell that is not what he sounds like. Shivers ran down my spine as the thought of ghosts prowling the house invaded my head. I swallowed hard and pressed my body harder against the wooden door.

But then I heard the giggle again and then followed by mu ffled voices outside.

Suddenly, the thought of ghosts vanished and my brows furrowed as I continued to listen to the voices.

One was a woman’s voice while the other…

“Andreas?” I whispered as I heard that voice after the woman’s.

I could not comprehend whatever they were talking about and I found myself pressing my ears against the door.

The giggle was getting louder and I clenched my hands — waiting for them to come closer. I have no idea where Andreas’ chamber is but then my heart stopped as I heard them halting near the door of the room where I was.

Don’t tell me this is his chamber where I am hiding?

Quickly, my eyes surveyed the dark room. There was no bed in sight and I let out a relieved sigh when I realized is was just some kind of library.

“This house is too big for a lone man like you. Would you like me to keep you company?” the woman said. Her voice sounded exactly the same as those women I often hear roaming the streets near the pleasure houses in the nearby district.

My cheeks flushed.

I didn’t need to go out and see for myself what they were doing as soon as I heard wet kissing sounds and the lusty giggles turned moans from the woman. I could hear Andreas’ low laugh as the woman continued to let out that throaty moan that could have been heard from all around the house. I stepped back from the door and covered my mouth to contain my gasp.

I can’t believe this.

Are they…really doing it in front of the door?

What do I do?

I jolted from my feet as I heard the thud and another moan from the girl.

“Rumors were right about you. You’re a rough man,” the woman rasped. “I like it rough.”

For someone like me who was not very exposed to these kinds of things, it was like my insides went cold but then I could feel my face heating up. I was trembling as I further heard the sound of clothes being unzipped.

“You’re hard for me, Lord Andreas,” moaned the woman.

I don’t want to hear this. I need to tell them to go away.

But how do I even do that when I was not supposed to be here?

I roamed my eyes around, looking for some kind of exit but then the door suddenly rattled. I heard the woman gasp and then followed by another giggle.

“Why don’t we take this somewhere more private?” Andreas’ voice was thick and my traitorous head immediately pictured his blue eyes turning a shade darker as lust filled his expression.

Whatever makes her think that we even did it?

I could feel my cheeks getting flustered but I found myself waiting for Andreas’ response.

He was silent for a moment before I heard another thud. The next thing I heard was the woman, groaning and then gasping as though she was having a hard time saying something.

“Don’t mention my fiance. She is none of your business.”

The woman gasped again and my hand flew to my mouth as I heard her whimpering. Finally, she was breathing hard, wheezing, in fact.

“I did not mean-

“Come with me.”

Before the woman could say anything, she whimpered again and it sounded like she was being dragged

somewhere.

I took a deep breath and clutched my chest, listening to their footsteps getting away. I decided to stay in the room longer until I was entirely sure that they were gone.

Going back to my chamber was harder as it was dark. But thanks to my little exploration earlier, I was able to

I made my footsteps as quiet as possible. A relieved sigh escaped my lips as I saw the door to my when I was about to open it, a hand grabbed my wrists and the next thing I knew, I was pinned into the door and Andreas’ piercing blue gaze met mine.

I gasped. Terrified of the man in front of me.

At that moment, he looked nothing like the man this morning. At that moment, he looked more like the man

from the rumors. Ruthless. Unkind.

“A-Andreas,” I stuttered.

“Henrietta?” he called and his eyes filled with confusion. He then looked around as though looking for

something.

I don’t know what happened between him and that woman but it seems like the woman was gone.

“I apologize. I thought you were an intruder.”

Lies.

My hand grabbed my wrist, caressing it. He saw it and muttered a curse to himself.

“I am sorry, Henrietta. Please, allow me to-”

I raised my hand and shook my head. “There would be no need for that.”

I did not wait for him to respond and I immediately went inside the chamber.

It was then that I realized that I hardly breathed during our encounter. My knees buckled as I sat on the floor, the memory of his face filling my head.

That night, I did not sleep a wink.
