Chapter 63

ANDREAS

The vampires remained in prison after I told them they still had to be observed. Henrietta’s blood proved to be very useful against the plague however, this posed another problem for me. Once the enemy knew about Henrietta’s blood, they’d come after her.

It’s something I have to stop from happening as much as possible. There is also the case of Henrietta turning into a vampire. She’s still yet to come to terms with her identity and it would take her time. Her hatred for vampires is something I understand. She grew up in a werewolf environment where most are brainwashed about vampires.

However, I know Henrietta will make peace with her new reality soon enough. She did not just turn into a vampire. Rather, her vampire state woke up from a slumber after she accidentally killed a someone. I know it would come out as unfair to her and it would acceptance harder for her.

As the massive gates swung open, the imposing facade of the Suan residence loomed before me. Soft light spilled from within, casting elongated shadows across the expansive yard, beckoning me forward.

The moment my feet stepped onto the green grass, I could feel eyes watching my every move, anticipating what I would do with my every step.

I

I did not bother roam my eyes around as I could sense their presence even as I close my eyes.

The moment I stood in front of the door, it was their butler who opened it for me, urging me to step into their

posh foyer.

“Lord Suan has been expecting you, Sir Andreas,” he said and bowed before he started to walk towards the hall

where Lord Suan’s study is.

He was expecting me to come which means my suspicions were right. They indeed have something to do with the vampires going frenzy as if they were infected with some kind of virus. Now I need to ask him regarding the missing werewolves as well. Are the vampires responsible for it?

The butler stopped and faced me before he bowed and walked away, leaving me in front of the closed door. Sighing, I reached for the knob and opened the door.

Lord Theon Suan was standing by the window, his back against me. From the vast glass, I could see that he had a

great view of the yard where I walked earlier.

“You’ve been busy, Sir Andreas,” he said as a way of greeting and faced me. He was holding a glass of liquor.

“You knew why,” I answered and walked into the room, making myself comfortable with the settee. I reached for the bottle of liquor and poured myself a glass. “I’ve been capturing the rogues. Imprisoning them.”

“I am rather surprised you were able to capture them all,” he said and walked towards his table.

I sipped onto my glass. “I had some help.”

“I suppose the Royal Guards are accepting you

as their captain, now?”

here

“They don’t have a choice. I did not want to be their captain, either. If not for my wife, I do not intend to in the capital.”

“Well, you’ve already made yourself known in the borders. Nobody would dare mess with your pack even if you’re not there. The Capital needs you the most.”

I angled my head. “Does it?”

He nodded and smiled in my direction. “What have you come here for? I assumed after we met accidentally at the Palazzo, you had something to tell me. Or ask. Now is your chance.”

“I don’t think I would glean any information from you but I would like to ask– do you know that there are wolves disappearing the past few days?”

He went silent and that alone was enough confirmation for me to know that he knew about it. Something is stopping him and that is the the vampire who compelled him. He can’t tell me what he know or the consequences would be dire, not only to himself but to his children.

“But then again, I guess I am asking the wrong person. I plan to cooperate with the prince about this matter, especially that there has been another death on top of all those missing wolves.”

He nodded and took a sip of his own glass. “Quite a handful of work. Is that all you want to ask me?”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Is there something else I should know?”

“Only that you should think first before coming here. You know who I am. I know who you are. It’s a fragile

relationship we have.”

I

“Oh, I would not consider it fragile at all. Because I am willing to spare you of telling me things you can’t say to save you and your family.”

His gaze darkened as he stared at him. It did not escape my gaze how his grip tightened around his glass. I let out

a smile.

“But I would appreciate if you could find a way to tell me something,” I said. “I am not forcing you about it. Rather, I’d like to see you get creative about it.”

His grim expression went on. “I told you I can’t.”

I stood and waved a lazy hand. “Don’t think too much about it. If you can’t, then I can find a way to find out.”

“What are you going to do?”

I smiled. “Right now, Lord Theon, you are not on my side. I don’t carelessly tell people about what I plan to do. These are dangerous times.”

A wry smile played across Lord Theon’s lips as he set his glass down with deliberate precision, his gaze never leaving mine. The air between us cra ckled with unspoken tension, each movement a silent challenge. “I agree. You can never know who to trust.” A flicker of unease danced across Lord Theon’s features as his fingers absently traced patterns on the surface of his glass. It was a fleeting gesture, but one that hinted at hidden intentions lurking beneath the surface.

“I will continue to do what I do best, Lord Theon. I will keep looking for those vampires who fell victim and I shall

give them what they deserve.”

Something crossed his eyes and it was instantly gone as soon as it came that I could not discern what it was. however, I know for certain that as much as I want to trust Lord Theon, I couldn’t. I shouldn’t.

So I stood and a stared at him, giving him another chance to tell me what he could. But he remained silent. As I walked towards the door, he called my name, making me look at him.

“I apologize if I couldn’t give you details you sought,” he started and I nodded, understanding his situation. “And I also apologize for what’s going to happen next.”

My brows furrowed as I looked at him, wondering what he meant. But then the truth immediately sunk into me

and my eyes darted towards the glass of liquor I was drinking earlier. As if on cue, my breathing hitched and my hadn went to my chest as it was starting to get painful to breathe.

My knees went weak and my other hand went to clutch onto the door kn ob for support but my fingers seemed to have lost all of their strength. I found myself on the floor, unable to move.

I

Then I heard footsteps coming closer. I realized I was already on the floor when I saw Lord Theon crouching in front of me, watching me. Regret flickered in Lord Theon’s eyes, mingling with a glimmer of something darker that I couldn’t quite decipher. It was gone as quickly as it had appeared, leaving behind a lingering sense of

unease.

“You shouldn’t have come here, Sir Andreas,” he said as my consciousness was fading. “You shouldn’t have come here at all. Now, I can’t do anything to help you.”

The next thing I heard was the door opening and several more footsteps coming in before I lost my

consciousness.
