Chapter 42
ANDREAS
One could tell Henrietta’s grace was born with her the way she moved smoothly and greeted everyone with that smile that could easily make me stop breathing. I remained truthful to my words when I told her I would chase away any man who would come near her. We have agreed that whoever we associate ourselves with is no longer our concern but tonight, she wished not to be bothered. I know she would certainly be tailed by those hungry wolves wanting to get her attention.
“Is that coat on her shoulder your way of telling everyone here that she is your betrothed?”
I looked at Aiden who was sipping leisurely on a glass of wine. I did not say a word and took a sip from mine.
“I’d say that’s a good choice. His Highness could get his eyes off of her. He’s probably thinking about how to win
her back.”
I scoffed. “It’s a shame Henrietta does not look backward.” I looked at him as he chuckled.
“If the Lady Henrietta decides to get back with Philip, what would you do?” His smile was teasing but the thought he planted inside my head made me want to shatter something.
I downed the contents of my glass and took another one before I faced him. “Rather than nonsensical questions, shouldn’t you be telling me about what you’re tasked to do tonight?”
His grin widened until he started chuckling, shaking his head. He then cleared his throat and his expression became serious. “Nothing suspicious is around. When I asked Dreyfus earlier if he knew something, he didn’t. Sol we will have to be very vigilant.”
I nodded at him as I casually roamed my eyes around the area. The ballroom was massive. I remember it had always been like this ever since I was young. The Alpha King loved celebrations and parties. At least that’s what I thought when I was younger. As I got older, I realized they were his escapes. After Beatrice– Philip’s mother- died, he was drowning himself in the company of other people.
I remembered his parties used to look like this. The only difference this time is that he’s not the center of attention anymore but the couple who took to the dance floor to dance. As the mellow music started to play, Yvette and Philip started moving. My eyes went to Henrietta who was standing in the dark, watching the whole thing unfold.

The complexities of such emotions as love are truly hard to manage. Even as Henrietta claims she’s fine, even as she shows me that it does not affect her as much anymore, I know it still does. In fact, I know it still feels more painful than she cared to admit.
Philip was an as shole for doing it to Henrietta who did nothing but love him.

Both Philip and Yvette locked eyes as they started moving faster along with the beat. The guests started to the dancefloor and the spectators lessened. Henrietta’s eyes found mine through the sea of faces, and a fleeting smile danced on her lips. In response, I raised my glass, our silent toast resonating with shared sentiments.
As we both downed the contents of our glass, it felt as if it was just me and her with that small connection we formed amidst the crowd.
It was then that I saw Myrna, Henrietta’s stepmother standing in the corner, watching Henrietta with such contempt. I know Henrietta could handle her battles alone but I wanted to step in and take her away from there.
However, as I took a step forward, Henrietta dropped the glass she was holding. The sound of it shattering on the floor was drowned by the cacophony of music and the merry laughter of the people around us. Nobody heard it except me.
Time seemed to slow down, and my limbs froze in place, a surge of fear coursing through my veins- fear I had never felt before. I watched as Henrietta’s hand went to her neck and she was gasping as though it was hard for her to breathe. Her wide eyes mirrored mine as she looked at me.
“Henrietta!” I called out, the urgency pushing me forward as she stag gered to her feet. The world around me started to fade into a blur. Her gaze remained fixed on mine, and the distance between us stretched, as if time itself conspired against my efforts to reach her in time.
My heart pounded in my chest as I closed the distance between us, catching her in my arms. She was looking at me, her hands were on her throat, gasping for air. This can’t be happening.
Aiden was already right next to me and immediately sniffed one of the shards of glass. He let me sniff it too and ! muttered a curse under my breath.
“It’s poison,” Aiden said and I nodded.
I peered down on Henrietta, she was still gasping for air and I knew I had to do what I needed to do to save her life. But I could not possibly do it here in front of everyone.

“Henny?” a voice reached me and then the music stopped as Philip left the dancefloor and ran towards where was cradling Henrietta. “Henny!” he repeated, clasping her hand.
Philip looked at me accusingly. “What happened to her? What did you do?”
“Someone put poison in the wine she was drinking, Your Highness,” Aiden replied.
“Did you do it, Andreas?” asked Philip.
The guests started to surround us, watching. The Alpha King went down from his seat and looked at Henrietta who was breathing very slowly.
“I do not need to answer to you.” I lifted Henrietta and looked at my father. “I will bring her to a witch I know. She’s been poisoned. Aiden shall be left here and nobody shall be allowed to leave the premises. I believe the one who poisoned her is here.”
Philip attempted to stop me but Yvette was already clinging into his arms.
I did not wait for their response and immediately walked out of the ballroom. As much as I want to use my speed, revealing my identity in a wolf’s den would only make the situation worse. So I waited until I was out of sight before I made the surroundings blur around me. In an instant, I was back in her chamber.
I laid her gently on the bed. She was sweating profusely and her breathing had become too shallow. Her eyelids were closed but I could feel her trembling.
From what I smelled earlier, she had been poisoned by a wolfbane. Its scent was almost nothing that’s why it
s no surprise she did not smell it as she drank her wine.

I gently lifted her head as I took a bite from my wrist, hitting the vein. Then I took my wrist on her mouth, making her drink my blood. My hybrid blood once cured her when she was bitten by a vampire. I am not too sure if it can do the same with the poison in her system but I was hoping it would.
Relief surged into me as I saw her drink. “That’s it, Henrietta. Drink. Drink from my blood.”
I saw the dark circles around her eyes– which formed from the poison–start to disappear. Her skin coloration. started to return to normal and she was starting to breathe normally.
As Henrietta pulled away, gasping for air and gripping her throat, her disheveled appearance became more apparent. Strands of her hair fell out of place, framing her face in an unruly yet enticing manner. The flush on her

cheeks betrayed the recent surge of emotions and the lingering effects of the poison. Her eyes, a captivating shade of green, held a mix of vulnerability and confusion.
Coughing, she struggled to regain her composure, her delicate hand pressed against her throat as if to soothe the lingering discomfort. The elegant lines of her gown were slightly rumpled.
“How do you feel?” I asked, worry etched across my face. She looked at me and the memory of the first time I healed her flashed across my head. “Henrietta, how do you feel? You have been poisoned.”
“W-What?” she asked, looking at
me with wide eyes. Her eyes were sleepy and she muttered a curse as she held her head. “My head feels like it’s about to shatter.”
I swallowed hard as she looked at me. “What did you do? Why…Why do I feel like this?”
My mouth went dry. The effect of my blood on her was something I had not expected. I saw it the first time when I cured her from a vampire’s bite.
I grabbed her shoulders. “What you’re feeling right now is the aftereffects after I healed you. Once you go to sleep, you shall not feel that way anymore.”
“This feeling is familiar,” she said and I froze. What is she talking about? Is she talking about that time I first healed her and erased her memory?
Her fingers anxiously sought the neckline of her dress, and with a sense of urgency, she began tugging at the fabric. Before she could proceed any further, I caught her wrist.
“Henrietta, what are you doing?”
“I feel so hot. Please. Please let me out of this dress.”
“I shall call your maidservant–”

Before I could even rise to my feet, she seized the collar of my shirt. Her dizziness betrayed her, causing her lose balance and tumble onto the bed, inadvertently pulling me down with her. I was quick enough to brace both my arms on the bed to avoid crushing her but our faces were too close I could feel her warm breath against my face.
“Niana is not here,” she murmured, her eyes casting downward. “It’s just you and me.”

As I contemplated suggesting an alternative, her next words caught me off guard. “Please, undress me. I feel like I’m burning.”
My eyes darted to her exposed neck, her collarbone, and finally her chest-all areas my lips had recently touched. Suppressing a conflicted sigh, I closed my eyes briefly, attempting to shake away the provocative thoughts that threatened to consume my rationality.
ink. It was not her fault. This was not her talking but the lust from
blood. And yet, I could not push myself away from her.

She opened her eyes, and her gaze, a captivating shade of green, locked onto mine with a mixture of curiosity and desire. “Why are you not doing anything?” she questioned, her voice a sultry melody that sent a shiver down my spine.
I blinked, momentarily caught off guard. “I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to–”
Unexpectedly, the tables turned, and I found myself on the bed with her straddling me. “I know. I know what I am feeling right now as well. This burning desire feels the same as the night we almost had it,” she confessed, leaning in to whisper in my ear. “And I want to take advantage of this to ask you to continue what you did to me the other night.”
Her words held a magnetic pull, stirring an undeniable attraction that made it challenging to resist. As her lips hovered over my ear, the warmth of her breath sent a jolt through my senses.
Then, she began to explore, her hands venturing southward. “I do not know what you did to me to feel like this. Right now, I want nothing more than your warmth around me. I want you to embrace me like you did the other night. Kiss me and make me make a sound like you promised.”
I struggled to process the situation, the growing arousal making it difficult to think rationally. A soft moan escaped her lips as her mouth continued to dance tantalizingly close to my ear.
And then I felt it. I felt her hand in between us and unmistakably touching the part where she was aching the most. I do not know the extent of the effects of my blood on her but this was truly unexpected. However, as I looked at her, she seemed like she was fully aware of everything.

“I know I am going to regret this tomorrow but this feeling… I can’t seem to stop it. Please…Please make it stop,” she pleaded, her breath shuddering against my ear, pushing me to the brink.
Unable to resist any longer, I seized control, shifting our positions with her on the bed and me on top.
“You’re not going to hate me for this?” I questioned, seeking assurance.
Her gaze, round and filled with longing, met mine as she shook her head.
“I want you tonight, Andreas. Relieve me of this feeling,” she urged.
With her hand still hidden within her dress, I carefully took it out. A gasp escaped her lips, and I couldn’t help but smile at the blush staining her cheeks. However, the hunger in my eyes mirrored the intense desire coursing through my veins as I saw her wet fingers.
Gently, I brought her fingers to my mouth, eliciting a moan from her as my tongue explored and cleaned her trembling digits.
“You taste incredible,” I whispered, savoring the moment. Her shuddering breath fueled the anticipation, and i caressed her face with a tenderness that contradicted the raw desire in my gaze.
“Very well then,” I declared, taking both her hands and pinning them above her head. A mischievous grin played on my lips as I vowed, “I shall worship you tonight.”
