Chapter 34
HENRIETTA
I could have sworn my cheeks were still flushed from the event that transpired last night. “Unconsciously, my hand rose to trace the lingering warmth on my neck, the imprint of his lips. My cheeks, still flushed, betrayed the vivid memories. I bit my lip, unable to shake the sensations that lingered from the night before.
The events of last night unfolded like a whirlwind, leaving me bewildered in its wake. It started innocently enough, a simple question and answer that escalated into a dance of desire. On the other hand, I must admit, it felt good. I am not foreign to such sexual acts, however, I have only known it from the books I’ve read. I’ve never tried it on myself.
And it seems like the books I’ve read were correct. It does make one lose their inhibition and unable to think straight. It was what happened to me. And now that I think about it, I cannot help but worry about how Andreas holds so much power against me. His lips, his hands, and the way he looks at me would be enough to render me defenseless.
Shaking off the disconcerting thoughts, my gaze fell upon the document cradled in my hand. It was more than at piece of paper; it was my father’s legacy, a dormant weapon he left me awaiting its strategic moment to be
revealed.
Sighing, I placed the document back to where I hid it- under the floor carefully hidden underneath the thick carpet. As if on cue, I heard Niana’s soft knocking from the outside. Nobody could open the door from the outside without a key so I had to go and open the door for her.
However, it was not only Niana who was there. Myrna was there as well.
“Move,” she said and shoved Niana to the side before barging inside my father’s study. I gave Niana a small smile, assuring her that I’d be fine. She bowed before walking away.
“Yvette’s wedding will be next week. For the preparations, His Highness was generous enough to pay for everything.”
I know they had taken my wedding dowry. Myrna being the Lady of the house had the right to take that from me and I won’t be able to do a thing, even as I am the true–blooded Silvana.
“Yvette bought a portion of land in the outskirts to build their vacation house.”

I clenched my fist but I tried to keep my face calm. Eventually, I managed to let out a smile. “Good for her,” I said.
Myrna looked at me in wonder. Probably wondering about my reaction. But she cleared her throat and inquired, “When is your wedding with Sir Andreas?”
“We’re planning to have it after Yvette’s marriage.”
She chuckled. “Do you plan to live on the border or do you wish to stay here?”
fiance
An open mockery is something they have started to use against me ever since they showed their true motives. And I’ve learned to play along their twisted game so I smiled. “I don’t know if you were listening but my asked the King that he remain in the capital because of the surge of vampires in the area. To answer your question, yes, I am going to remain in this manor, Myrna.‘
She studied her nails. “I’m not too certain about that. I am the Lady of the House now. I think it is best for you to live with your husband.”
“What value is this manor if you are to live in a palace?”
She grinned. “One can never have only one home. I plan to keep this manor. Or sell it at a substantial price. Depends on me.”
Seeing her blabbering about things she had no idea about was satisfying. At the same time, it was unnerving too. I wanted to pull out that piece of document I’ve been hiding and slap it on her face just so I could remove her smug grin. But I remained calm and composed myself.
I stood from my chair and gestured towards the door. “I am guessing you’re busy with the preparations. You may
leave.”
She stared at me a moment longer before she smiled. “I truly feel sorry for you, Henny,” she said, that familiar kind eyes staring at me as if I was the most pitiful. “I know you still love Philip and I know you were only forced to marry Sir Andreas but you do realize why Philip chose Henrietta, right?”
a word as!
My fists clenched under the table but I schooled my expression into that of indifference. I did not say a don’t know what I might say that I would regret.
“Even as Philip told you that he does not care about the Silvana getting bankrupted, it was all because of wealth that Philip decided to marry Yvette instead. Currently, she has more chances of inheriting everything and that would give Philip more advantage.”

She smiled at me. The same smile she used to show me when I was a kid, asking if I was hungry or if I wanted more sweets. It’s scary to think how good she is at masking her true intentions.
When I did not say anything, Myrna tilted her head, feigning concern. “I just thought you should know the truth,

with a detached stare. “Your concern is duly noted, Myrna. I’ll make sure to take it into
She continued, unfazed by my lack of reaction. “It’s just amusing, really. Yvette is securing her future, and here you are, tethered to a man who’s more interested in the Silvana wealth than anything else. Perhaps marrying a warrior is the best choice. I hope he does not care about you penniless.”
I leaned back in my chair, maintaining an air of indifference. “Well, it’s fortunate for me that my worth isn’t defined by a man’s interest, real or perceived. As for Yvette, I wish her the best in her endeavors.”
Myrna chuckled, a condescending tone underlying her words. “Oh, Henny, always the stoic one. But deep down, I can see the pain in your eyes. You can’t fool everyone, especially not me. I saw you grow up. I tended your wounds whenever you fall.”
I raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. My memory of my childhood with her has long been gone from my heart. “I have long forgotten those times, Myrna. If you have nothing else to say, the door is open.” I gestured towards the door and she smiled, shaking her head.
The room, bathed in the soft glow of an ornate chandelier, felt stifling after ourA Just before the door creaked shut, I called her name, breaking the heavy silence that lingered in the study.
“When I was young, I thought you were the kindest person in the world, second to my real mother,” I started. She turned to face me, her expression unreadable. “I was wrong and I am still trying to deal with that fact.”
I sat on my chair and stared her down. “Enjoy this while this lasts, Myrna. I promise you, I will put you back to where you came from.”
