Aiden saw me carrying Henrietta. His gaze went to the alleyway where I left the vampire. I don’t know if he’s still
alive but I couldn’t care less. Not when Henrietta is bleeding and there are no signs of her healing.
“What the hell happened?” he asked, but I did not say a word. The area was quiet and there were no signs of
other people around.
“You have to leave here. The others will sense you. It won’t look good.”
I nodded, my gaze fixed on Henrietta. The sinister black veins snaked across her neck, an ominous pattern creeping up to her face. The situation was dire. Vampires can’t make other vampires. They could not procreate as well. But their bites could be lethal to humans if they want to. And looking at Henrietta’s reaction to the bite,
she doesn’t have much left.
Without hesitating for another moment, I harnessed the power I had been reluctant to unleash–the incredible speed that defied human and even werewolf limitations.
In a matter of seconds, I found myself inside her chamber. I immediately laid her down on the bed. Her face was almost matching with the white bed sheets. She started shivering and sweat continued to trickle from her
forehead to her face.
A sense of uncertainty and urgency gripped me. I had never attempted this before, but I knew I had no other choice. I heard about this ability when I encountered vampires at the border. Without giving myself time to reconsider, I bit my wrist, hitting the vein. My blood pooled and fell onto her dress. Ever so gently, I supported the back of her head and made her drink my blood.
I anxiously awaited a change as I observed her swallowing it, but the ominous black veins persisted on her face and neck. Unable to contain my unease, I found myself muttering something under my breath while nervously watching the unfolding scene.
“Come on, Henrietta,” I muttered as I observed her closely. Then the veins started to disappear. The color on her face gradually came back. But she was not opening her eyes.
“Henrietta, can you hear me?” I called gently. The last thing I wanted was for anyone in the house to catch me in her chamber while she slept. The revelation of her condition would expose a secret I had concealed. Therefore, I

O
As I waited for seconds, Henrietta’s breathing started to get better. She doesn’t she’s running after it. Her forehead creased as she slowly opened her eyes. Even in the dark, her cheeks flushed as her eyes met mine. I let out a relieved breath as I realized she was safe.
“A–Andreas,” she called weakly. Her eyes were droopy, making her look like she still needed the sleep.
“How
do you feel?”
It took her a while to answer and she squirmed as she forced herself to get up from the bed. “I…I feel strange.”
“Does it hurt? Are you in pain somewhere?” I swallowed hard as I remembered she was conscious earlier when I did something to that vampire who attacked her. So I asked, “Do you remember what happened–
I was taken aback by the unexpected kiss, a momentary suspension of time leaving me momentarily paralyzed. The echo of my own question lingered in the air, drowned out by the sudden rush of new thoughts. I thought about how soft her lips were. I thought about kissing them all night long. I thought about how her lips would feel around other parts of my body–
I shook them all away. My initial instinct was to pull away, to question this impulsive act, but a powerful force seemed to tether me to the moment. I could not seem to push her and found myself responding to her kisses.
But then, I realized Henrietta was not feeling like herself. This is not her. It took every fiber of my being to grab her shoulders and gently push her away. The space between us was cold and I was tempted to lean in and kiss her again but I stopped myself.
“Henrietta, what’s going on?” I asked.
However, she just looked at me, an unspoken plea filled her eyes that seemed to tug my emotions hidden deep
down.
I tried to gain my composure and managed to murmur, “Henrietta, we can’t–” my voice wavered, betraying my internal struggle, as she leaned in and sniffed my neck. Her hands went to hold my wrists, trying to remove them from her shoulders.
“Why can’t we? We’re going to be husband and wife, anyway,” she purred, her sultry voice weaving through the already tense atmosphere. The allure in her words threatened to dismantle the principles within me. However, I steeled myself against the temptation, gripping her shoulders tighter, and resolutely pushing her away once

“What you’re feeling now, is loneliness. You don’t want to do this to me right now-
A curse coursed through my mouth as she grabbed my hand and placed it over her chest before she said, “My heart’s beating so fast.” She looked at me with that drunken gaze. I could not help but feel like she still is affected by the vampire’s bite.
Or it could be that she’s reacting to my blood in her system, I am not entirely certain of how this works but my blood could do wonders such as healing. Perhaps it can make people who drink feel… certain things too.
“Henrietta, you’ll regret this once you wake up tomorrow.”
“I liked that kiss we shared in the alleyway,” she confessed with a sly grin.
I fixed my gaze on her, a low chuckle escaping my lips when I noticed the undeniable response in my own body. “You’re really going to make this difficult for me, aren’t you?”
Her eyes traveled down to my pants, and I did not attempt to hide the evident desire. A sultry smile played on her lips, tempting me to lean in for another kiss. However, a sense of responsibility and a realization made me shake the thoughts away.
Henrietta’s altered state, whether due to the vampire bite or my blood, remained a mystery, as this was the first time I used my blood to cure someone. What I was certain of, though, was that she’s going to hate me tomorrow if I decided to pin her down on this bed and do what she wanted me to do. The prospect of a rift between us was something I couldn’t afford.
Standing while still holding her shoulders, I could feel the magnetic pull in her gaze, urging me to stay and indulge in the temptation. Yet, with a gentle but firm resolve, I pushed her onto the bed.
“We kissed twice and I enjoyed both of them, however, I don’t want to take advantage of your vulnerability at the moment.” I leaned to kiss her forehead instead and added, “Once you wake up in the morning, you will not remember any details of the attack.” I smiled and her brows furrowed.
Before she could even say something. I placed my palm on her forehead and said, “You’re going to have a sound sleep and you will wake up tomorrow refreshed and without a memory of what happened in the alleyway and what almost happened between us tonight.”
She stared in space, as though in a trance. It was when I removed my hand that she feel sound asleep.
