The Forgotten Luna (Adessa)

Chapter 16

MIRANDA.

Even before I found out Dexter was my mate, I was already attracted to him. But he was just a Beta, and I dreamed of bigger things.

I wanted to be a Luna.

Dexter was smart enough not to tell anyone that I was his mate until we were able to find time to talk.

Since Khalid and I were not fated mates, even if in the end he marked me, he was not able to feel my infidelity. The same way Dexter never felt anything whenever I had sex with Khalid.

Only fated mates who marked each other could feel their mate's infidelity. Without the bond sealed by marking, everyone was free to fuck around.

So I fucked around behind my husband's back.

Sex with Dexter was explosive. From the get-go, I knew I wanted him, but I also wanted this pack. So there was no way I was leaving Khalid for him.

I did my best to make him understand. I swayed him to continue with our pretension that we had nothing while formulating a plan together. Besides, Dexter didn't want to step down from his position. Like me, he dreamed of bigger things. Khalid entrusted me to Dexter during my trips outside of the pack. He had no idea I scheduled those trips so I could have a taste of Dexter without interruption.

Then, the day I'd been waiting for finally came. Khalid died. Given that Kael was only twenty-four at the time, the right process was for Dexter to become Alpha until Kael turned twenty-five, the ripe age for handling a pack.

But I thought that once Dexter stepped up as Alpha, we could cast out Kael.

However, I underestimated Kael. He raised his concern with the Alpha King and sent proof that he was capable of handling the pack, and his request was granted right away.

I had no choice but to pretend I was happy for him so I could still stay in this house. It was then that I realized I needed to push Desiree further.

If I couldn't be the Luna, at least my daughter would be, and I would still not be disregarded.

Everything went well at the beginning. They got engaged, but then my stupid daughter made a mistake, and Kael ended up marrying Adessa.

Kael admitted to Dexter that his relationship with Adessa was merely an agreement. No emotions attached.

So, for the last whole year, I'd been trying my best to kick Adessa from Kael's life and from this pack. I even resorted to sending rude letters signed by her to establishments and businesses within the territory so they would hate her more. But regardless of how the people see her, Kael didn't budge. He remained faithful to her.

Until Dexter told me that Kael was falling in love with her and was planning to propose to her. Kael began preparing everything needed to renew their vows.

I panicked.

I asked Desiree to come back from traveling with her boyfriend, and I began planting doubts in Adessa's head on days that Kael was not home by letting her hear that Desiree was back.

I succeeded. I heard her ask Kael where he'd been for most of the day, and he would just shrug his shoulders. He told her she would know one of these days.

I saw Adessa cry after that. I knew she felt Kael was planning to divorce her. I thought she would leave on her own, but she stuck around.

And the day of Kael's proposal to her was approaching. I was running out of time, so I had no choice but to tell Dexter to eliminate Kael.

Someone tampered with his car, and the accident happened.

Unfortunately, my stepson survived. And with Adessa guarding him like a hawk, we knew we had no other way out but to wipe out his memory. Or he might end up marrying her again when he wakes up. Or worse, he would realize someone had broken his car, and that could be our downfall.

So, while unconscious, Dexter had been injecting Kael with high doses of banned solutions that could alter a person's memory. With the number of injections he gave him, I was expecting him to lose his full memory.

I also thought Adessa would be

picked up by Alpha Draco's Beta

before Kael could wake up. Then, it'd

be easier not to tell him about her existence since Dexter had already wiped out all evidence that he was planning to propose and marry her including disposing of the new ring, canceling the venues and caterers, and burning the invitations.

But Kael woke up unexpectedly and with just a memory loss of two years.

I guess it was better than remembering the last year.

And the good thing was, it seemed he was still smitten with my daughter. Until Desiree broke the news to me, saying that she thought Adessa and Kael had been intimate. It was the scene Kael saw before I handed her Adessa's letter. Everything kept messing up. If this continues, I might have to do another plan of eliminating Kael because this has been going on for too long now.

I moaned as Dexter's kiss deepened, and his hand squeezed my ass, but I remembered I had questions that needed an answer, so I abruptly turned my face to the side before pushing him off me. "What now?" He growled lowly.

"I need to know first what's going on, and you can't stay here."

"Oh fuck! Then why are you staying here? Go home so I can go there later."

"Oh, please. We have things to discuss. What happened? Is Adessa the one who sold the ring?"

He brushed his palm over his hair. Annoyance was written on his face. "I think so. He didn't entertain any of my questions, but he said we're coming back to Bayson next Friday. I think he wants to buy the ring." "Of course, he would. But I don't understand why Alpha Draco's Beta allowed her to stop at Bayson."

"It's none of our business now. I think Kael is furious with Adessa because of that ring, which is good news. Plus, the fact she's not here anymore and probably caged by Alpha Draco, then that part is. solved." Dexter smirked, making him look more handsome. "And who knows, he might give that ring to Desiree."

"Well, I hope this time everything works. Because if not, you need to continue what you failed to do in that accident."

"Relax..." He stepped closer, wrapping his arm around my waist before pulling me closer. "That's the ultimate plan, isn't it? I got you."

"You better move fast while you're still the next in line for the Alpha position!" I snapped at him.

"I know what to do. So, again, just relax."

I rolled my eyes at him, but I couldn't do anything when his mouth crashed against mine, and I just let him devour me. But I was starting to believe my mate was useless, as all the plans we orchestrated always ended up failing in his hands.

As much as I wanted to believe he got this, I better prepare myself. Maybe this time, I needed to take the matters into my own hands.
