The Falcon Ridge Series Book 2 Not Just A Girl

Chapter 46

(Chapter song ‘This Is How Villains Are Made’ by Madalen Duke)

COLORADO MOUNTAINS

My breath clouds around me as I jog up the steps to the large chalet tucked into the side of a foothill in Colorado. It snowed and my dress shoes aren’t made for the snow covered stone stairs. I can’t stand the snow, but I have to complete a deal.

As I get to the top, the large front door opens. A man in a black suit nods to me. “Alpha.”

I nod back and step in. “Is he here?” I shake the snow off my black business coat and try to defog my glasses.

“Common room.” He answers and shuts the door. The cold, winter winds are sucked back out the door as he does.

He guides me into the large log house that’s richly decorated inside with furs, gold items and paintings. Mostly of the same little blonde girl in different poses.

I would think this is just a gallery of a father’s love, if I didn’t know the psyche of the man I’m about to meet. No. This man has an unhealthy obsession over the child he took the life of. It’s so complex, there's not enough hours to get through it all.

But I’m not here for that.

I'm led down a hall then guided into a huge common room filled with couches, tables, chairs and more artwork of the girl. He paints them himself, I’m told.

I see him lounged on the couch in deep thought. His dark skin is a stark contrast to the white couch he sits on. He’s so large, he almost takes up half of it.

He turns his attention to me and smiles. “Alpha.” He stands and meets me halfway.

I shake his hand. “Desmond.”

“Sit.” He offers.

“Thank you.” I walk with him and sit on the couch. “I can’t stay long. I have to get back. I just needed to clear up our arrangement.”

“Good. I trust the takeover was successful?” He raises a brow.

“They didn’t stand a chance.” I smirk. “I have secured the pack house and the people have accepted me as their leader. Dragons are moving in as we speak.” I smile.

“Very good.” He lowers his head. “Did you find what you were looking for?”

“Yes. Honestly, I didn’t think it would work. Thank you for supplying the rogues as a distraction at the camp. It bought me time to search for the underground lab.” I place my steel briefcase on the table.

“You downed the fence, I just sent them to their deaths.” He smiles.

“And for that…” I open my case and pull out a bundle of the now dead Luna’s curly, blonde hair. I hand it to Desmond. “Your prize.” I offer.

I shouldn’t feed his psychosis, but like I said, I have troubles of my own.

He slowly takes it. His face softens and lips turn to a frown. He gently strokes the length with his large fingers. He holds it to his cheek and closes his eyes.

I side eye him. “You know. If you ever need to talk…”

“No.” He growls as he whips his head to me.

I hold my hand up. The last thing I want is an altercation with this man.

He plays with the hair. “I had her. I held her. In the woods after the attack. I had her. She was so beautiful. Then she died.” He hung his head.

I lean to him. “You kidnapped the Luna of Black Lake, Desmond. It wasn’t her.”

He rolls an angry eye to me. “It was her!!”

I rub his back. “Ok. It was her.” I sit up, close my case and stand. “You'll find her again, Desmond. The Black Lake affair was the final piece to starting my plan. Now, with the help of the lab, I can do what I was truly meant to do.”

He stands. “What? What did you find?”

I smile as I pull out a vial from my pocket. I hold the bottle up between us. The orange liquid inside swirls around. “I found the way to finally make a proper connection to the one person who will bring the Dragons to life again.”

He raises a brow. “Who?”

I palm the vile, adjust my glasses and smirk evilly.

“The Goddess of Draco Torrent.”
