The Facility

Chapter 15

Hugo Forrester paced around the parking lot talking on the phone. “It appears they are headed towards Georgia. We will monitor them and look for opportunities, otherwise we will take them at their final destination, wherever that it.”

He looked out across the field at the setting sun, admiring the pink and orange hue as it set behind the mountains. Nodding at the voice on the other end of the phone and realizing he probably looked foolish, he stopped and said, “I will take care of everything,” before disconnecting.

He cursed under his breath at his inept specialists. They let three children, a man, and a dog escape, having nothing to show for their efforts but a few tranquilized civilians.

Hugo was not used to having to expend this much energy with subjects. Sure, they tried his patience, but these were the first ones to escape the facility.

This week was not going well. First, the escape from the facility, and now this fiasco at a state fair. This was not something that could be covered up easily, so he would have to use every means at his disposal: lying, threats, bribes, blackmail, whatever it took. He was not picky.

One of his underlings came up and interrupted his thinking. He sighed and wanted this to end quickly. Hugo did not like to be in the spotlight in times of trouble.
