The Emerging Part I: Dream

Chapter CHAPTER XXXIV

Vaiqon is standing at a window looking out over the whole Injhihato. He sees various Rniti returning from their training in the forest, lake, and elsewhere. He sees other, more experienced Rniti returning from their adventures outside the Injhihato’s gates. He sees Jayyojjeks appearing from nowhere all over, making their way back to their adopted home.

“Vulcan, I have often wondered why we do not just automatically become Daijoks when we enter the stage of Jayyojjek. After all, they are the next in line to be a Daijok, who deems that there can only be four Daijoks?” Vaiqon asks unexpectedly.

Vulcan responds, “It is only because that is how things have been for generations, Vaiqon. Who are we to change things after they have been established for so long?”

“I see your reasoning, but I fear that some Jayyojjeks are frustrated that in order for them to become anything higher, they have to wait for either one of us to die or one of us to anoint them a Daijok. And then, even with one of those, they have to have a certain connection to fill the void and there is usually only one spot available at a time.”

“Vaiqon, I believe that they are comfortable with the arrangements set in stone for generations by the Injhihato. Four Daijoks, for connections, that is how it is, that is how it should be.”

“Yes, but still, I do wonder that if maybe we changed just this one thing, no one would ever consider leaving this sacred place.”

“Vaiqon, you are not still thinking of Ragefier and his dramatic exodus are you? That was a one time occurrence, it will never happen again.”

“Perhaps you are right, Vulcan. So, you came to speak to me for a reason, I can see it in your eyes. Come now, what is it?”

“It is about the Pentad, well, Santhemum, to be more specific.”

“Yes, yes, what about her?”

“It is just that she has skills of someone who should be ten years older than she. It is astonishing. Today, with only minimal training and guidance, Santhemum bested Firose at every turn. I cannot remember the last time Firose was bested by anybody.”

“I knew that girl had something special in her. Well, what do you suggest I teach her then?”

“Well, Firose suggested incorporating some advanced techniques into her daily routine.”

“Yes, but what do you suggest, Vulcan?”

“Oh, sorry Vaiqon. I suggest that you let Santhemum spar with a Jayyojjek everyday, then, possibly, one of us, when you feel she is ready.

“I see. I must see just how astonishing Santhemum is for myself.” Vaiqon looks out the window and sees a crowd forming next to the first ring. “Ah and it seems I shall see Hawk’s skills first. It seems someone has challenged Hawk to a duel, or Hawk has challenged them.”
