Chapter 13
He felt the power building up, but didn’t bother to control it. Controlling magic when he was angry never worked. She was still alive. He had given magic to one of his best men to rid the earth of a nuisance, a pest, and he had failed. The wall behind him exploded in a cloud of black ash.
He felt the emptiness within him and knew she had somehow killed Drusk. She was more powerful than he had anticipated. When he had shared power with Drusk, he had also looked through his eyes. The girl had the Dragon Stones, and the dragons were protecting her. Even in death, those creatures were fighting him.
He needed to solve this problem before it got out of hand. He would never forget that young dragon’s prophesy that one day, he would die at the hands of a dragon. He had no doubt that the dragons would work through her. She was their last chance at defeating them.
He had to act now, while she was still learning how to use her powers, though he feared he may be too late in that regard. She did not know how to kill him, though, and he was more powerful than he had ever been before.
There was a reason he did not wipe those puny humans out of existence. Magicians and other magical creatures thrived on energy given off by humans. Fairies became stronger when humans did good works and gave off light energy. As of late, the humans gave off darker energy than they had ever before. He, and all dark magicians, had never been more powerful.
He reached out with his magic until he found what he was looking for. A black jewelry box floated over to him. To permanently rid himself of Sara Day, he would need to work quickly. The box clicked open to reveal a bracelet with a silver chain and small black stones forged out of shadows.
He picked up the bracelet, and whispered two names. These magicians were the closest to her, and would at least try to kill her. They had no choice. He wouldn’t give them any energy though. He had already made that mistake once. They would have to succeed or fail on their own.
In the meantime, he had another way of beating the dragons. He had been searching for some time now, but still hadn’t found it. For now he would have to wait. He looked down at the stones on the piece of jewelry he was holding. If the magicians couldn’t kill her, he would have no alternative but to go after her himself with all the power he could get. If they succeeded... Aevill smiled.
If they did kill her, he would live forever, unopposed.
