Chapter 29
“Amica Mea, I know you haven’t been a dragon for too long and all this is new to you. But with you already here, it will be best if you transform and help us fight.” Rydstorm took her hand.
Catori nodded.
“Just stay close to me,” he told her.
With another roar, Akara allies began to transform. Causing more people to scream and run around, seeking a place to hide.
Catori silently called upon her dragon. She felt as if she was floating and not before long; she was a twenty-foot-tall dragon that had to be careful not to trample the humans that were running about.
Something slammed into her, but with her body being so large, the force didn’t knock her over.
She turned around to see a blue dragon growling at her.
“I have waited a long time for this,” it said in her mind.
“Calian.” Catori growled.
He rammed into her, and this time the two of them tumbled over. They rolled around on the ground, with Calian getting the upper hand. He purposefully flicked his tail so that it hit a human who was trying to hide, sending them flying in the air.
“Your blood will water our land. When I’m done with you, it will be your father, then your mate.” Calian told Catori, pressing a clawed foot in the back of her neck.
Ehecatl spoke in Catori’s mind. “We are stronger than this. We can’t let these intruders rule this land any longer. You must destroy them, make your father proud, give him his throne back.”
“But what do I do?” Catori asked.
“Follow your instinct, kill your enemies. We are not weak. You are the daughter of Nightwing.”
Catori let out a mighty roar after hearing her father’s real name. She shimmered from underneath Calian’s foot and was before him in an instant; she blew fire at him, but a wyvern jumped on the way, sucking in the fire, and letting it back out at Catori but that didn’t have an effect on her.
Catori hissed at the two creatures before her. “Nun!” She growled in their minds.
Knowing that it was two against one, Catori thought of a strategy to kill Calian, and seeing that the nun was loyal to the Stone’s she was finding it hard to figure out what to do.
“There is no planning, just attack them. Your instinct will take over.”
Catori did as her dragon said. She charged to the two, then dropped into a barrel roll, causing the both of them to tumble over.
Catori was the first on her feet, shooting fire at Calina first, then bit into his wings.
All around them were roars from dragons, screams of the humans along with the occasional fire, water, ice, earth, and wind as the creatures used their abilities.
The nun that was helping Calian spat acid at Catori, but that did nothing to her metal like scales.
Seeing that she was distracted with the nun, Calian did a sneak attack. Biting into her neck, not being used to fighting in her new form, she didn’t know how to shake him off, so she did the only thing she could think of and flew into the sky with him still attached to her.
Catori flew as high as she could until she felt Calian losing grip. He had realized what she was doing, so he let go to get back on the ground, which was his domain, and there he could control the earth to his liking. He wasn’t used to being high up either; the air was cutting away from him, making it a challenge for him to breathe.
Hearing his panic through her mind, Catori thought of using that against him, but she had to find a way to keep him in the air somehow.
She held onto his two leathery wings and span him around in the air so she could fly further into the sky.
Not seeing a way to escape from her grasp, Calian trashed around and roared. His roars sounded as if he was calling for help, but he was too high up for anyone to hear.
“You would always laugh at me because you thought I was weak, and you said that you would kill me, but look who has the upper hand now.” Catori said in his mind.
Catori blew ice on him, freezing his feet and wings.
“You and your family will be sorry for what you did to my father.” Catori turned around, so that they were speeding towards the ground. She ripped his wings from his back, blew more ice at him, so when he hit the ground on impact, he crumbled.
A wyvern attacked from the back of Catori, wrapping its wings around her. She didn’t know how, but spikes grew out of her back to sink into her attacker, killing it instantly.
“Sorry sister, but I don’t like nuns anymore.”
All at once, Catori was picked up and found herself spinning around until she picked up momentum and was thrown off into the ocean.
She emerged from the depths, bringing a gigantic wave with her. She used it to wash away the enemies, hoping that they weren’t water types like her.
She let out a wall of fire, burning at a wyvern that was racing towards her. She was so focused on it that she didn’t see the one sneaking up behind her, but thankfully Rydstorm had seen what was about to transpire and shot out spikes from his tail to kill the enemy.
“Amica Mea, you must always watch your back.”
Catori breathed hard, not saying anything.
She looked for someone else to attack but saw that they were winning. It was just her father and Akara who were still locked in battle. She made a move in his direction but was stopped by her mate.
He transformed back into his human form before speaking.
“No, let him finish Stone. Your father waited centuries for this.”
Catori transformed back as well, watching as the two dragons take flight. Breathing fire and ice at each other.
They circled the mountain, letting out roars which sounded like distant thunder. At that scene, Catori couldn’t tell if her father would win because from where she stood, Akara seemed to have the upper hand.
“That was the last of the wyvern, but two of the Stones have the ability to camouflage, so we have to be on the lookout for them, make sure they don’t try to use a sneak attack on Nightwing,” Fang said.
Catori wasn’t paying much attention to what he was saying, because she was too caught up in the fight with her father. She feared for him.
But as she continued to watch, she saw that her father had Akara on his back, who was struggling to get up.
There was a roar. A head began to roll down the path of the mountain and came to a stop as if to display for them all to see.
Lucian flew over to stop before them, shooting flames in the air to signal that he was the victor.
He transformed back into his human form and raised a fist in the air.
“Akara Stone is dead!” He declared, causing all the other dragons to cheer along with him.
Catori stopped cheering as a scene played out before her in slow motion. She saw two of the remaining sons of Akara killing her father, but it was as if they couldn’t be seen by anyone else but her.
When the vision ended, she gave a cry, running over to where her father stood. And just as her father was about to get attacked, she plunged a spike that she picked up in the chest of one, but by the time she was about to kill the other. He had already blown a hole through the center of Lucian’s chest.
He made himself visible again, laughing and gloating. “I killed Nightwing, I killed Nightwing.” He faced Catori and pointed at her. “You are next. This land will forever and always belong to us.”
Fang was the one to swing a sword at the boy’s head, causing it to drop and roll close to where his father’s own was.
Lucian dropped to his knees, and Catori rushed over to him.
“Dad.” She sobbed.
Lucian wiped her tears away with a bloody finger. “Don’t worry, I have been through worst.” With that, he fell forward on his face.
