The Dragon's Bride

Chapter 24

Fang looked taken aback when he entered the room shortly after

“What’s going on here?” Rydstorm asked.

Catori pushed the tied-up nymph who fell to the floor.

“I was interrogating her. I had suspicions that she might be working with Lilith, and they turned out to be true.” Catori explained.

Fang fell upon Raven instantly, grabbing her by the neck.

He snapped his teeth in her face. “You dare to bring harm to my King and Queen.″

The nymph struggled in his grasp.

Rydstorm turned to his mate. “What raised your suspicion?″

“I don’t know. I just had a feeling one of them might know. When I spoke with the group, she was the only one to act suspicious.″

Rydstorm pulled Catori closer to him.

″Please don’t do anything like that again. You could have been hurt.″

″But I’m not, and I was right.″ She tried to pull away from him.

Rydstorm sighed. “Leave her to Fang. He will get the information we need out of her.″

Catori frowned up at him, knowing he was hiding something, but his face gave nothing away.

Before she could say anything, Raven crackled. ″You can’t stop us. We are plenty. We are everywhere and we will conquer.″

Her body transformed before their eyes. Rydstorm pushed Catori behind him, but she wanted to see what was happening, so she stepped to the side for a better view.

The once pretty nymph was now a hideous creature, with long yellowing teeth, and wart covered face.

″They are so many people here that side with us, just know that not everyone is as they seem.″

Murmurs went up after her words, with some stepping away and giving accusing looks at each other.

″Don’t listen to her. It’s a scare tactic,″ Rydstorm reassured his people.

″Rydstorm?″ Catori touched his hand.

“Yes, my love?″

“She speaks the truth. There are others here just like her. Pretending to be loyal to you.″

Rydstorm glanced down at Catori.

″I can’t explain it, but I’m seeing colours around them.″

“Alice, can you please take my mate to our room? Stay with her until I get there,″ Rydstorm commanded.

Catori protested, Rydstorm took her face in his hands before softly kissing her on the lips.

″Catori please, let me deal with this first.″

“But-”

“Alice.″ Rydstorm nodded at his sister, dismissing what his mate had to say.

Catori frowned but followed Alice out. Nita flanked on her right with her head down.

″Can you really tell who is against our King?″ Nita asked once out of earshot of the room.

″I...″ Catori trailed off because in the blink of an eye, the place was thrown into chaos.

She watched in horror as several creatures stormed the kingdom, cutting down her people who didn’t expect the attack because they were too busy celebrating their victory over the wyverns.

Alice pulled her away just as someone swung an ax at her head. Catori called out to Nita, but it was too late. A creature ran her through with a spare before throwing her off the ledge.

″No!″ Catori screamed.

She sobbed as Alice pulled her away.

″We have to find a place to hide,″ Alice said. She never let go of Catori’s hand as they ran.

Even when the girl fell, Alice would stop to help her to her feet.

Soon they came to a dead end. The wall before them won’t allow them access to the other room unless Rydstorm gave them permission.

″What do we do now?″ Catori panicked.

″We have to find another way.″

When the two turned around, they soon see that they were cornered by the approaching attackers.

Alice jumped before Catori, spreading her arms protectively.

″Alice, what are you doing?″

″It is my duty to protect you.″ She glanced back at Catori with a smile.

The first creature stopped to say something in a strange tongue, but Catori understood every word which was horrifying. He didn’t want to kill Alice, but to have her as a pet to have sex.

When she tried to pull the blue-haired girl back, another creature pushed her away.

The two females felt useless, seeing that they didn’t have any power and couldn’t fight.

They dragged a screaming Alice away, leaving a frightened and crying Catori who didn’t know where to go or what to do.

She saw Rydstorm running towards her, but before he could get close, she felt a pain in her chest. When she looked down, a sword was sticking out.

″Catori,″ Rydstorm called out.

″Catori,″ he called again. Shaking her until she came out of her trance.

Catori gasped, then fell forward, crying into Rydstorm’s arms.

He took her face to stare into her eyes.

″What happened? You just stood there with a blank expression,″ Rydstorm asked.

Catori looked down at her hands in confusion.

″But I just died, I saw it,″ She whispered.

When she glanced around, she realized that Raven hadn’t transformed into the creature as yet. Catori didn’t understand how, but she was somehow back in the hiding room, where Rydstorm and Fang had just arrived.

“Amica mea? Are you alright?″ Rydstorm took her hands in his.

″I just saw it; I saw everything in my head.″ She told him, then explained what had happened but she left out the part about others that would betray him, mostly because she didn’t want the enemy to know she was onto them.

Rydstorm stood there stunned. He couldn’t believe his ears, but at the same time, he knew his mate wouldn’t lie to him about something like that.

With a nod to Fang, he then sent out a command to his army to be ready for another attack.

Someone came to take Raven away by locking a collar around her neck. She glowered at Catori before they dragged her out.

Rydstorm turned to leave, but Catori grabbed his hand so he could stop.

″Please don’t leave me here.″

″This is the only place for you to be safe. No one can get in.″

With tears in her eyes, she blinked up at him.

″I don’t want you to leave me. Please stay.″

It didn’t take much for Rydstorm to agree.

Catori went up on her tiptoes, acting as if she was going to kiss him, but whispered.

″Can we go somewhere else that is private? I have to tell you something, but I don’t want anyone to hear.″

Rydstorm nodded at his mate and shimmered to their room, even though he knew how she would feel after. She was the one to request such, in order to get away from everyone else quicker.

Rydstorm paused for a second before addressing Catori.

″Fang and the others have everything under control,″ he said.

″How was I able to see that?″

Rydstorm took her hand, leading her over to their bed before answering.

″I believe you are a seer.″

“A what?″

“A seer, some would call it a soothsayer, or even a prophetess.″

“Oh, so I saw the future?″

“Yes, that might be your ability.″

″I also have something else. When we were in the room. and I had that vision. Raven told us that others are here that are siding with her.″

″Why didn’t you tell me this before? We could have got it out of her.″

″She bit her tongue out in order not to give her allies up, but I know who they are. It is hard to explain, but when she said there are others, I knew she was telling the truth. Also, I can see colours around everyone, they all have multiple colours to differentiate who they are but those who stand with you have the same colours. While those who are not have different colours.″

″I’m sorry, but I have me at a loss.″

Catori closed her eyes, thinking of a way to explain it better.

″Ok. When I look at someone, I see colours. They all have three different colours surrounding them. Out of those three colours, everyone that stands with you has one colour in common. Blue. And those who want to overthrow you still have three colours, but instead of their common colour being blue, it is grey.″

Rydstorm nod, ″you are seeing their auras. But are you sure of this?″

Catori nod. “Yes.’’
