The Dragon Prince

Chapter Dragon Training and Reconnaissance

Alyssa

I opened my eyes when the sun hit my face; I soon remembered that I had stayed with Vincent last night and was sleeping on his bed. I felt Vincent’s arm around my waist, holding me close to him. I reached for my phone, being careful not to wake him. 6:30 in the morning, and it’s Monday. That’s just perfect. I’m not in the mood for school after the weekend I had. I soon thought about Dr. Solus telling me to talk to my teacher about my new powers. I wanted to get out of bed, but as soon as I started to move his hand, his hold got tighter and turned me around.

“Where do you think your going?” Vincent yawned.

“School,” I responded.

“We don’t have to go, you know,” Vincent said. “We can stay here, fool around in my bed,” Vincent licked his lips, and my face reddened. God, he’s turning me on.

“As tempting as that is, I have to go. I have to talk to Mr. Reid about my magic, or whatever you call them. Maybe you can tell me what your power is,” I said.

“My mother and I can copy the magic of any dragon or other magical being we fight and use it against them. White Dragons can magnify the potency of the elements, and we can even combine them to make devastating attacks. We were feared by the Elves, and they systemically wiped out my ancestors by using magic to prevent them from using their abilities. I’m one of the top three fighters in our school, with my sister taking the 2nd best,”

“Well, they were avenged in the end,” I smiled. “Now, I’m going to school so I can have a chance of talking with Mr. Reid so I can have a better understanding of my abilties if he has any knowledge about them,”

I went to move his hand away, but he quickly advanced and pinned me down on the bed. “Please, stay with me,”

Vincent looked into my eyes, and I felt myself blush. He lowered his head, lightly brushing his lips against mine, sending sparks down my spine. Goddess, this mate bond will make me do nasty things to him.

“You shouldn’t be holding your body up like this; your shoulder is still injured,” I snapped back to reality.

“You’re worth the pain, Alyssa. I want-”

I stopped him by locking my lips with his, not wanting to wait as he brushed his lips with mine again. I felt butterflies in my stomach. I could feel Vincent grinning under the kiss. I love him so much; I feel powerful with him. “Nice try, but I’m still going,” I said when I broke the kiss. Vincent sighed and got off me. “I see you later,”

I got in the shower in my room. I’ve been together with Vincent for a little over a month. Do I love him, or is this the mate bond talking? No, don’t doubt you’re feeling, Alyssa. You love Vincent with everything you have. I exited the shower, wore black pants and a purple shirt, and headed to school. I found Izzy and Annabeth talking together before the bell rang.

“Hey girls,” I said, waving at them.

“Alyssa? I thought you’d miss today.” Izzy said. She is surprised I’m here.

“I just thought It would be best to get it out of the way,” I said.

“How is Vincent?” Annabeth asked me.

“Stuck in bed. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if Vincent’s not in bed right now since I’m not there to yell at him,” I groaned.

“Vincent is your mate sister, he’s you’re problem,” Izzy and Annabeth laughed.

“Whatever,” I scoffed. “Anyway, where is Mr. Reid, I need to talk to him,”

“Why do you need to talk to him?” Annabeth said with a curious look.

“It’s about my powers, and Dr. Solus thought he could help me,” I said.

’We’ll take you to him,” Annabeth smiled.

Annabeth and Izzy guided me to Mr. Reids’ office and left me to my business. I knocked on his door. He told me to come in. I hope I’m not interrupting anything,” I said as I closed his door.

“Not at all; come in. Take a seat,” Mr. Reid said as I sat on a chair. “What can I do for you?”

“Dr. Solus said to come to you about this. Are you aware of what happened during the weekend?” I said.

“This has something to do with the dragon attack?” Mr. Reid said.

“I know what happened that night; four dragons breached the perimeter, and the thing is, Vincent, Alexandria, and I were the ones that stopped them,” I said.

“You stopped them?!” Mr. Reid was shocked.

“Yeah,” I nodded.

“This the reason why they are not in school today?” Mr. Reid said.

I can’t tell anything that Zayne is dead. “Yeah, Vincent got hurt fighting the invaders, and he will make a full recovery, but Solus told him to stay home for a few days,” I said.

“That’s good to hear, but this doesn’t explain why you are here,” Mr. Reid said.

“I discovered a new power while I was fighting the dragons. I was fighting one of the dragons in the air. Suddenly, I was surrounded by a golden ball that shot outwards from me, knocking the dragon back, and he died when he hit the ground. Then I fought another dragon to protect Vincent and shot golden light instead of fire; when my powers hit him, it snapped his neck. I shot gold light the third time, but this time, from my hands in human form. The other dragon was in human form and died on impact,”

“Did this light so anything else?” Mr. Reid asked.

“Yeah, it healed my broken hand,” I said.

“Who else have you told about this?” Mr. Reid asked me.

“Well, my friends know, but Solus told me not to tall anyone else,” I said.

“Smart thinking, only the strongest dragons can use magic in human form, except for White Dragons, who can use magic in human form anytime they wish. And just like the mortal world, there are magical beings that crave power and being a gold dragon put you in a dangerous spot,” Mr Reid said.

“I already figured that out a long time ago,” I said.

Mr. Ried then got up from his seat. “Come with me,”

Mr. Reid took me to another teacher’s office. I only saw her backside, but I could tell she was pretty. “Ms. Ford?”

“Ryan, what are you doing here? And it’s Principal Ford,” Ms. Ford said.

“This is Alyssa,” Mr. Reid said.

“Pleaser to meet you again,” Ms. Ford said.

“Likewise,” I smiled.

“So what brings you here?” Ms. Ford grabbed her cup of coffee and started drinking it.

“I only have one class today, and I would like to know if you could get someone to take over for me today. I want to take the day to train Alyssa. She has so much potential, and it would do her good to get a little training,” Mr. Reid explained.

“You ask an unusual request but a good idea. I’ll let Alyssa’s teachers know she’ll be away for the day,” Ms. Ford nodded.

“Thank you,” I said as I walked out of the principal office with Mr. Reid. “Why do you want to train me?” I asked as we walked in the hallway.

“Doctor Solus asked you to talk to me so I could help you. Don’t worry about it. Now I will make a quick call, and she will meet us in a disclosed location that will be perfect for training you,”

Mr. Reid made his call, and I followed him outside the school and town. He brought me to a large field. We waited in the middle of the area while waiting for Mr. Reid’s friend, who he said would be here soon.

“Who?” I asked.

I saw a beautiful blue dragon closing in just as I finished my sentence. The dragon’s scales were cobalt blue, with a light color on her chest and abdomen. She landed gracefully on the ground; it was clear that I was looking at a water dragon. She soon shrunk in size, and a red-haired woman stood in the dragon’s place.

“So glad you could join us, Elizabeth,” Mr. Reid smiled as he hugged her.

“Anything for you, chocolate thunder,” Elizabeth kissed his cheek.

“Alyssa, this is Elizabeth, my wife,” Mr. Reid introduced me to her.

“Pleased to meet you,” I shook her hand in delight.

“Please, call me Lizzy,” Elizabeth said. She looked at me up and down. Her eyes stopped at mine, her face puzzled. “Hmm. Is this the golden dragon you were telling me about?” Lizzy’s smile grew wide.

“The one and only,” Mr. Ried confirmed to her.

“It’s an honor to meet you, I see you possess the mark of a mate, but that’s not why we are here. I’m an expert on dragon powers and abilities,” Lizzy said.

“If I do use my powers, I might hurt or even kill you,” I said.

“Don’t worry about us. Aim at the middle of the field, and we will stay a little further back in case of your energy shield,” Mr. Reid said.

“Do you want me to start in human or dragon form?” I asked.

“Let’s start in dragon form as it’s difficult to use magic while in human form,” Mr. Reid nodded. “It might be easier for you to use your magic in dragon form,”

“You can use magic in human form!? Ryan, you have a lot to explain later,” Lizzy said.

“I will. Alyssa, when you are ready, you can turn,” Mr. Reid nodded.

I concentrated my focus and energy on Dahlia, and we shifted into our dragon together.

“She beutiful,” Lizzie said. Lizzy then examined me. It was like she was studying me.

Mr. Reid and Lizzie then shifted their dragon forms and touched their forehead with mine to open a mind link. Mr. Reid was a giant green dragon that soured into the air. He’s a wind dragon; they can fly at lightspeed and break the sound barrier.

Lizzie’s dragon was small like mine but with a much leaner body to move across water better.

“I’ve never linked with more than one dragon before,” I said.

“Just relax, you’ll get used to the weird feeling in time,” Lizzie said. “Now, let’s see what you can do,”

I closed my eyes, trying to picture when I shot that golden ball at the Lightning Dragon. But the only thing I could imagine was the dragon’s neck breaking. “I’m sorry, I don’t know if I can do this,”

“Take a deep breath,” Lizzie said. “Hold your breath for a while, thinking about what you are going to fire,”

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and concentrated on Liz’s words. I thought back to Friday night. I thought about the Lightning Dragon; I had been so enraged he was about to kill Vincent. I thought about the golden energy ball the size of a football connecting with the dragon’s face. I soon became aware of the energy deep in my throat. It felt hot. I opened my eyes, ensuring no one was in front of me. When I made sure, I opened my mouth and breathed in. I could see golden light and felt that same energy released from my throat.

The light shoots out, but it’s the size of a golf ball. It lands on the ground a few meters before me, briefly scorching the grass, and quickly dies out. Part of me was embarrassed. “Well that’s humiliating,” Dahlia cries.

“Well done,” Lizzie smiled.

“How was that a well done?” I seethed.

“You managed to generate power, am I right?” Lizzie raised an eyebrow.

“I guess I did,” I looked at my claws, pulsating with power. “But this was nothing like before,”

“Your dragon instints took over when you were in danger. The hard part is to learn to use those instints at will,”

“How are you in breathing fire?” Lizzy asked.

“Never done it,” I said.

“What? Why?” Lizzy said.

“It’s a long story,” I shook my head.

“Then we will start there before we continue with the other skill I wanted to teach you,” Lizzy nodded. “It easier and allows you to grasp the basics when using dragon magic,”

I spent the rest of the day learning how to breathe fire; Lizzy explained that any dragon other than water, wind, and earth can breathe fire. She is a fantastic teacher, along with Mr. Reid. After a few hours of training, I could breathe fire for a few seconds. I never felt more proud of myself, and I felt Dahlia jump excitedly. She was silent during training, and I decided to keep her a secret.

We all shifted back into our human forms.

“Great work today, Alyssa,” Lizzy smiled.

“Thank you for your help,” I hugged her.

“Tomorrow I have to teach, and you have some class. You can meet Elizabeth here after school,” Mr. Reid said.

“Do you have time for that, Lizzie?” I asked her with concern.

“Don’t worry about it. I’m happy to help,” Lizzie beamed a cute smile.

“Then I will see you tomorrow after school then,” I said.

“It’s a date,” Lizzie nodded.

Vincent

(Meanwhile)

“Shouldn’t you be in bed?” Alexandria said as she entered my bedroom.

“Jeez, it’s not like I’m excersizing. Can a man stand up every once in a while?” I said.

Alex shrugged. “I told the other dragon kingdom leaders about our parents, and they were shocked, startled, you name it,”

“And the Elders?” I said.

“I’m meeting them today,” Alex said. “I’m going to discuss with them about telling the kingdom about the death of our father, and our mother is in a coma,” Alex said.

“That explains the dress, I’m not used to you wearing formal getup,” I chuckled.

“Oh, haha,” Alex mocked. “There’s also something else, King Akhenaten will be here tomorrow morning,”

“Do the others know?” I asked.

“I didn’t exactly have the time to tell our inner circle the news,” Alex said.

“I’ll call them, relax sis, you’re doing great,” I smiled at her.

“It feels wrong to think about Dad’s funeral with Mom in a coma. Our parents were fated mates, and our mother should be there to mourn him,” Alex started tearing up a little.

“Postpone dads funeral for now until the doctors update us on Mom’s condition. For now, it’s best if we focus on telling the kingdom,” I said.

“Okay,” Alex hugged me and left.

The death of our father is crushing her; I’m guessing she is regretting the hatred she held towards him for being away all the time on council business. I hope you forgive yourself, Alex; he loved us both regardless of how much we drove him and Mom insane with our antics.

“We have to listen in on the meeting, Vincent. We need to know what Alex and the Elders arriving here will discuss with her,” Astarot said.

“Are you insane!? But I have a feeling if I say no, you will take control and do this anyway,” I said.

“You know me so well. This will be easier if you are on board with this,” Astarot laughed.

“If we get caught, I’m locking you in the deepest reaches of my mind,” I threatened.

Using my magic, I cloaked myself from all eyes and stayed in a corner in the throne room where my sister would be talking with some of the Elders.

“Elder Becca, Elder Grace, and Elder Rosie. Pleasure to meet you,” Alex said.

My father told me a bit about these ladies: Becca is an Elder Fairy, Grace is an Elder Witch, and Rosie and an Elder Dragon are members of the Elder Council.

“Likewise, Princess, we’re sorry to hear about your father,” Becca said.

“Thank you,” Alex breathed deeply.

“How are you holding up?” Becca asked.

“Well, I-” But Alex was interrupted.

“Oh, for the love of the goddess, quit it with the small talk,” Rosie huffed. “What’s the status of your mother, the White Dragon?”

“She’s charming,” Astarot laughed.

“Nice to see you too, Rose,” Alex crossed her arms.

“Tch, whatever,” Rosie rolled her eyes. “Now, your mother?”

“Still in a coma. The doctors are not sure when she’ll wake up,” Alex said.

“Or IF she’ll wake up,” Rose huffed.

“OH HELL, NO!” Astarot roared.

“Rosie, that was way over the line,” Becca scolded her.

Alex’s eyes turned black; she held back her dragon from ripping Rosie a new asshole.

“Let me remind you that while my mother is in the hospital, I’m in charge,” Alex raised her voice. “You better change that bitch attitude because my patience is wearing thin,”

“Good to see you have some backbone. Not many women have balls. This is a waste of time; Prince Vincent should’ve been the one we should be talking to; he is the sole male heir AND a bloodline descendent of the goddess. I can’t believe Zayne made you his successor soon before he died. But I guess Varrfarrinn is in good hands with you in charge for now,” Rosie said.

“What do we know about the attack?” Grace said, changing the subject to lessen the tension, but I knew it would worsen.

“Well organized. I think it was pure luck that we didn’t lose anymore towers,” Alex said.

“And the dragons that breached the perimeter?” Grace pressed.

“All dead,” Alex said proudly.

“Leave it to you to kill everyone without getting intel first, Alexandria,” Rosie scoffed. “Women!”

“Who the fuck said that I didn’t get any intel bitch?” Alex growled.

“Then, by all mean, enlighten us,” Rosie smiled, egotistical.

“They call themselves, Warriors of Sozin,” Alex told the Elders.

“Sozin? Who’s that?” Becca asked.

“No one knows,” Alex shrugged.

“How about the other leaders?” Grace said.

“I’ve only told them about my father’s murder. But I’ve asked the leader of Aksum here to discuss this,” Alex said. “He and my father were working together and I’m expecting him to arrive in Varrfarrinn tomorrow morning,”

“What else do we know?” Rosie asked in a respectful tone.

“Not much I’m afraid,” Alex shook her head.

“Alex, you need to understand that people are looking for answers as they know about the Easern Tower being destroyed,” Grace said.

“I know!” Alex scoffed. “I want to hold a council meeting tomorrow night, and there we will talk to them about my parents,”

“Are you sure telling everyone is a good idea without knowing who is responosble?” Rosie questioned my sister’s motives.

“They have the right to know,” Alex said.

“Okay,” Becca nodded.

“There is something else that you’re not telling us, Alex,”

“No, that’s about it,” Alex said.

“Then we’ll see you tomorrow night,” Bacca and Grace left the throne room while Rosie was starring daggers at Alex. What is her problem?

“Anything you want to get off your flat chest?” Alex smirked.

“Oh shit!” Astarot and I softly laughed.

“You are hiding something, Alexandria and I will find out what it is,” Rosie then turned her back on Alex and walked out.

“I need a drink!” Alex groaned.
