Chapter 46 You're Safe Now

* Matlock Village: Outskirts of the Eastern Army * Midwife POV

Royse is giving birth to Ambrose's child. She has had such a difficult pregnancy and we were sure that she was going to lose the baby but she persevered and now she's giving birth. But she's losing so much blood it's not looking good. We don't know where Ambrose is as he left for the new year festival at Drakor and never came back. *A/N1 I wrap the baby girl in swaddling blankets and tuck her in a small crib that has been made special just for her. I return to help the other midwives with Royse but it is plain to see that there is little left to do but make her comfortable. She bled out and passed away a few hours after the birth of her daughter.

I have been given the task of taking the baby to Drakor either be with Ambrose or at least with relatives. I gather supplies for both myself and the baby and I set off on my journey. I am not expecting danger but I'm also staying aware of my surroundings.

It's been a few days into my travels and I stop to feed the baby. She looks just like her mother with red hair and green eyes. I freeze when I hear noises behind me. Trolls! I am traveling in the woods so this shouldn't be a surprise but I didn't know trolls occupied this piece of the territory. I stand up with the baby and start looking for a place to hide. There's a small cave ahead. Maybe I can go there. I crawl into the back of the cave as far as I can go and I find a long tunnel that leads out into this huge open space. The space is so beautiful with sparkling stalagmites, stalactites, and columns. In the middle is a small pond of water that is the clearest blue that I have ever seen. I can no longer hear the trolls and even though it's a bit cooler here I decide to spend the night here in the cave.

That night I had a wonderful dream. A beautiful voice is calling to me so I stand up and follow it outside of the cave and there stands the most elegant and graceful woman I have ever seen. She's wearing a long blue shimmering gown. The gown seems to change colors as she moves from blue to silver to green. I've never seen anything like it. I'm standing completely frozen and just awestruck so she walks over to me.

"Hello, I'm Selene. The child that you're carrying with you is very special. She will one day save us all from a great evil. So, you must keep her safe. The evil witch Maeve wants to use her power for herself and will do anything to get the child. Don't let her be taken. She will one day be our only hope." With that the lady walks out of the cave and I wake up to daylight. I find the baby sleeping peacefully next to me. I pick her up and continue on my journey. *Kingdom of Cait *

Cyprian POV

There are blood droplets all over the room so I'm afraid Molly is hurt. I can hear soft crying and whimpering coming from underneath the bed. I bend down on my knees and I see her tiny frame curled up in the farthest corner possible trying to hide. But what happened to the mirror, why is she hiding, and from whom is she hiding? I already know the answers to the last two questions and it just pisses me off. She's hiding because she's afraid of being punished and she's hiding from me. I have to take a deep breath and remind myself of what she's been through in life.

"Molly, why are you hiding under the bed?" I ask gently

No answer just sniffles

"Kitten, I'm worried about you because there's a lot of blood. I need to make sure you don't need stitches." I'm trying to keep my voice as soft as possible.

No answer just sniffles

"Kitten, I know what you're afraid of and I promise you I won't punish you because of the mirror so you have nothing to worry about if you come out." I'm getting increasingly worried about the loss of blood.

I sat outside the washroom when she locked me out one time until she was ready to come out but I can't sit next to the bed and wait for her to come out on her own because of the bleeding. I also would prefer not pulling her out myself as I'm not sure where the injury is located as I could grab near the injury and make the bleeding worse. I'm really scared that she may need actual medical help.

"I'm only doing this because you're bleeding. I'm going to count to five and if you don't come out on your own by five I'm going to pull you out myself and when I do I'll punish you. "One"

No answer just sniffles

"Two"

No answer just sniffles "Three"

No answer just sniffles

"Four"

No answer just sniffles. "Kitten, I just said four please come out? If you come out now there's no punishment.

"Five. Kitten, this is your last chance. Come out now or I'm going to drag you out and then whip your ass." I hated saying these words. This would be the first time I would punish Molly and over something so stupid too. But there was no response from Molly. So, I crawled underneath the bed, which was no easy feat for a man my size, and grabbed her underneath both of her arms and pulled her out.

* On the way to Roselake in the Salona Kingdom * Emily POV

The demonic growling continues as the soldiers pull out their swords then huge, black, hairy, beasts with horns, and have red eyes that are almost as big as the horses jump out of the woods. Five jump out on my right and five jump out on my left. We are definitely outnumbered. They easily jump from the ground to the soldiers knocking them off their horses. The soldiers have swords but it is obvious the monsters have greater strength, stamina, and complete resistance to pain. I watch as one soldier cuts off the arm of one of the monsters, the monster rips the soldier's head off, and then the monster begins fighting with another soldier. The only way to describe what happened is a massacre. After all the fighting was over only three monsters remained. That's when they turned their red eyes on me.

I kicked my horse as hard as I could and we took off faster than the wind. We were doing everything we could to reach Roselake but the monsters kept pace with my horse running beside us. I rounded a corner and in front of me stood a woman and a man.

The woman was dressed in a black shimmering dress, it hugged her curves, and had a deep V cut in the front that came well past her cleavage. Her nails were painted black, were long, and were curled almost like a corkscrew. She wore a silver crown with black stones on it. She had black horns protruding from her head in the middle of her crown and her eyes were completely red without any white at all.

The man was dressed in a black suit with a black shirt. His eyes were completely black without any white at all and he had black horns protruding from his head as well. Both of their horns were shiny like they were made from rhinestones. The woman spoke first. "I am Queen Maeve and this is King Henry Annora from the Xsar Empire. We both have unsettled business with the Chromos Empire." They both smile but it's not a warm smile it's a disturbing smile. The queen pulls out a stick that is not straight but curvy and waves it in the air with a flick of her wrist. I am suddenly wrapped in rope that I cannot get out of and I fall off my horse with a thud. The queen and king walk over to me as the queen and says an incantation in a language that I do not understand while waving her stick in the air and the three of us vanish and then reappear in a different location.

* The Castle at Arkala; The Capital of The Neopatras * Quentin POV

I'm arriving back at the castle a few days earlier than expected. The people's king was killed in battle with the trolls and now I have to assume that position at least for now. I wonder how Elena is getting along. I hope she's made some friends as I don't know if she'll want to return to Drakor with me or not. I walk in the castle and am met by my Lieutenant and the head maid but not Elena. The head maid did not have anything to report other than my room is ready and to ask what time I want my meals. The lieutenant gave me the rundown on training and how security has been going on at the castle and the capital.

"There has been one concern, nothing drastic, and I hope you don't take this the wrong way but Lady Elena has been spending an inordinate amount of time hanging out with the soldiers during their time on and off training." Lieutenant Hawk informs me.

"What exactly does she do with the men?" I have a feeling that Elena is just more comfortable around men and that's why she's been hanging out with the soldiers but if it's interfering with their training then it has to stop.

"She doesn't do anything that is indecent, it's just the effect on the men. She watches them train, drinks with them, and plays cards with them. The biggest distraction is the drinking because the men come to training the next day hungover. I know I need to reign the men in more and stop them from drinking but if you could stop Elena from offering them beer every night that would help immensely." Lieutenant Hawk explains.

"I'll talk to her tonight. Do you know where she is?" I ask, my worry about her safety in all this increasing.

"Let's go ask the men, they should know." Lieutenant Hawk says. I feel my anger start to rise that a group of mostly unmarried men know the whereabouts of Elena before I do. We walk over to the training field and we find most of the soldiers have been drinking for some time now and are just horsing around. One of the soldiers tells us that Elena went to the cellars to fetch them more beer.

My anger keeps compounding as I walk down into the cellars and what I see is my greatest fear.

Soldier Bjorn spins Elena around and forces her to bend over a table. Then he lifts up her dress. "I got a new use for you now bitch."

I grab Bjorn by one hand in his hair and the other hand on his shirt sending him flying across the room hitting the otherside of the cellar with a loud thud. I walk over to him and punch him in his chest and rip out his still beating heart. I throw it on the ground next to his lifeless body.

I walk back to Elena and she's sitting on the floor in a mess of tears. I gently pick her up as she cries on my chest. I decide this is not the right time for us to have our talk about her activities with the soldiers. Instead I carry her to our bedroom gently reminding her that she's safe now.

A/N1 Chapters 6-12 to detail Royse's secret pregnancy and chapter 18 is where Ambrose is killed.
