Chapter 196 Gnashing Teeth
Although the phone call was intermittent, Brendon still caught a few key words.
What "when we were young", what "running over with a red nose"... just thinking about it made Brendon imagine an image in his mind.
The little girl who was all smiles running towards someone with red eyes and nose... this stirred something inside of Brendon making him feel angry.
And she even called him a little bug?
His voice carried some questioning tone as he asked, "Little bug? You called me that?"
He pinched her waist causing an itch to spread outwards making Ranita laugh uncontrollably.
"I didn't mean it on purpose... it's because you scared me!"
Brendon pinched her again hard like he was taking revenge for what she had done earlier.
"Who sent these flowers? Is it your good brother again?" His tone remained flat but Ranita could hear some anger in his voice.
Over the years in the Stuart family, Ranita had never received flowers from Brendon. She felt a sense of disappointment and sadness.
What could she do? Even if she envied and felt a bitter heart, she could only keep those feelings to herself.
"Mhmm." Ranita lowered down eyelashes while pushing away his hands, "I'll go put the flowers away."
"Do you really like them?" This random question caused Ranita to smile slightly as she replied, "Which woman doesn't like beautiful flowers?" They represented thoughtfulness after all so even if they weren't actual flowers just receiving any gift that showed someone cared enough meant everything to her too!
Ranita placed the flowers prominently in the center of the table, so conspicuous that Brendon found it eye-catching to the point of discomfort. It felt like a pang in his eyes and chest, making him almost wish to toss them directly into the trash.
If Ranita liked getting flowers, then why couldn't he be one sending them?!
Brendon took out his phone and thought about asking Caleb how to order flowers several times, but he realized someone else had beaten him to it. What was the point of sending flowers himself now?
They finished breakfast in silence.
Brendon wasn't very busy today and suggested, "Do you want to go out for a walk?"
Ranita remembered Brendon saying he wanted to take her out for seafood before and was hesitant because she didn't want to reveal her true identity, but this was a rare opportunity for them to spend time alone together.
After hesitating for a moment, Ranita nodded. "Sure, let me change my clothes first."
Ranita was in good spirits.
Her eyes were always smiling with radiance and affectionate laughter.
Brendon didn't know if she was happy because they were going out together or because of the bouquet of flowers!
"Where do you want to go?" It wasn't early anymore but it wasn't quite noon yet. The sunlight was perfect and not too hot; it would be great just walking around aimlessly.
"Hmm..." Ranita didn't know where she wanted to go at first since she wasn't familiar with Qaesburg. As long as she went with Brendon though, anywhere would be fine.
"Brendon, can we walk by the beach?" Ranita asked carefully while looking at Brendon's handsome profile under the sunlight.
"Sure!" Brendon nodded before taking her hat from her hands and putting it on top of her head. "Wear your hat outside so that you don't get sunburned."
"Okay!" Ranita replied before continuing, "Yesterday I heard from the hotel manager that there is a stretch of beach behind our hotel which leads onto a greenway if we keep walking along."
The hotel they stayed in had its own exclusive beach, situated just behind it, accessible only to guests like them. It was a beautiful environment with fine sand, some palm trees strategically planted, and a gentle sea breeze carrying a hint of salty ocean scent.
But there was also a bit of a fishy smell.
Ranita thought she might feel nauseous, but there was no reaction at all. She thought to herself, "The little one is surprisingly well-behaved in front of its dad."
It left her feeling a bit emotionally unfair!
