Chapter 12: Hang in there, Sophie.
At the Williams’ residence, Edith hadn't eaten or drunk for days.
Everything in her room had been smashed by her repeatedly, and for consecutive days, she completely lost her composure and
wasn't on her right mind.
"Let me go! I'm going to find Zac!"
Robert reluctantly came in and urged her earnestly.
"Edith, don't think about Zac anymore. His mind was only filled with Sophie's name right now.She was all he cared about. You will
just bring disgrace to yourself if you insist on going. If he finds out about what you did to Sophie, your life, including ours, would
be in danger!"
"Why would I believe that? That's bullshit! I was the one that Zac loved the most. How could he hurt me? Besides, Sophie is still
in critical condition right now.She is almost half-dead! I've known Zac for years already, and knowing him, he doesn't have much
patience. There's no way that he would watch over Sophie for the rest of his life! After all, he was still a man who has personal
needs. He needs a woman, he needs me.I have to go there and remind him of my love."
"Calm down, Edith! Your emotions were overpowering your capability to think right!"
"Calm down? How could you expect me to remain calm, dad! This was all your fault.I shouldn't have listened to you in the first
place! I should've refused to believe that bullshit belief that one's original wife would die! Really, how come that I only got to
realize how nonsense was that.I shouldn't have sided with your evilness! Now, Zac seemed to have fallen in love with Sophie
and ignored me.You were the reason I lost him, and because of that, my entire life is ruined! "
Edith cried as she spoke and pulled her hair harshly.
In those three years that Edith pretended to be dead, she got totally depressed and almost lost her sanity.
However, the thought that the day would come and she would be able to return to Zac's embrace, live a happy life with him, and
be a wealthy wife, made her hope for the best and boosted her morale.
Because of that, she was able to overcome being anxious every single day.
Now that Zac no longer wanted her, Edith felt that everything was suddenly over for her.
She thought, ‘What's the purpose of waiting for three years then? How could I possibly lose to Sophie? She was nothing
compared to me.
Even when we were young, Sophie was always beneath me.
What the fuck did just happen?’ "Edith, there are still a lot of men waiting to be found in the world! Shall we find you someone
else?"
"No, dad. There may be a lot of men out there, but no man would be way better than Zac.Dad, please let me out.Let me go to
him.He had loved me for a long time.I'm confident that he would forgive me!"
"Zac went to Belgium to bring back the best doctor who could treat Sophie. If she wakes up..."
Then it would really be the end of the world for Edith.
Robert was careful with every word he blurted out.
He knew that Edith was already on her limit, and he didn't want to mention anything that could trigger her more.
Edith's eyes were suddenly filled with anger which frightened even Robert.
"Why won't Sophie die! What was so important about her that heaven would not allow her to die! She should just die! She must
be dead soon so that grandma's inheritance would be transferred to me, and Zac would want to marry me!"
She then pulled Robert's sleeves and looked at him with tears in her eyes.
"Dad, you loved me the most, don't you? Then I'm begging you to please help me for the last time’’ Robert looked at his daughter
with pity.
He couldn't say anything as he doesn't have enough courage to refuse her.
When Zac arrived in Belgium to personally meet Anna, he had struggled a lot because he wasn't expecting that persuading her
to come with him would be extremely hard.
Apart from one billion dollars, Anna also asked Zac for other strange and almost impossible conditions.
However, Zac agreed to everything, so Anna promised to come with him and check his wife, Sophie.
Zac's heart was filled with expectations and joy when they came back.
Although he knew that having Anna treat Sophie doesn't really guarantee the latter's survival, he was just above grateful and
hopeful that it somehow increase Sophie's chance of living.
Zac did not expect that a tragic reality was waiting for him as soon as they returned.
Even from afar, everyone could see a sea of fire.
Firefighters, domestic servants, and bodyguards surrounded the gate.
Three guards were watching the firefighters’ water cannons spray on the raging flames! Zac's exquisite and colorful villa had
turned into a large burning flame that even refrained firefighters to immediately dash forward.
His heart tightened, and his whole body seemed to explode.
Zac then rushed forward and said, "Where's Sophie? Where is she!"
When the servants and bodyguards saw that he was back, they all turned pale with fear.
Zac's face was as red as the fire behind.
His expression, which looked like he was capable of eating people, frightened the servants.
"I am asking all of you! Where's my wife!"
One maid gathered up her courage as she stepped forward and said, "Sir, we don't know. The fire started unexpectedly, so all of
us dashed outside.Ma'am Sophie...might still be inside."
Zac was too angry.
He suddenly clenched his fists and gritted his teeth.
He desperately broke free from the guards who stopped him and rushed towards the villa like a moth.
"Sir Zac, don't go!"
"It's too dangerous, sir Zac!"
"Boss, come back quickly! The fire was too big! Are you crazy?"
The people behind him were shouting at the top of their voices.
However, Zad pretended not to hear a single thing.
Sophie was still inside the house, and all he could think of was to save her immediately.
He thought, '’Hang in there, Sophie.I'm going to get you out no matter what it takes!’’
"Sophie..." he barely said.
The intense smoke made it difficult for Zac to open his eyes, and the scorching heat nearly cooked him! He was surrounded by a
sense of burning pain and suffocation, but he still went forward to rush into the sea of fire and rob for death! Every step he
makes, dashing forward inside, was undoubtedly difficult.
Even if his skin was too painful because of the burns he got, he strode over and did not stop.
Then he finally arrived at the room on the second floor.
Sophie lay lifeless in the thick smoke and flames.
Her hair and some parts of her body were already burnt.
Zac desperately dashed towards her.
Then all of a sudden, things became more complicated.
A burning pillar of fire fell from the ceiling and directly landed before Sophie.
Flames instantly rose and consumed the entire area.
"No!"
Zac was lost for words.
He suddenly felt too tired as his eyelids became heavy.
