The Demon's Claim [House of Arcane #2]

Chapter 8: The Dream

Nora McCarthy’s POV

After cleaning my wound and the glasses were cleaned up and disposed of, Logan told me that I have everything that I need to shower in the bathroom. I nodded at him, looking at the band aid that he put on my fingers before he went out of the room, to give me some privacy as he put it.

I sighed before I was pulling the shirt and pants off my body as I was looking at the enormous bathroom. The shower was huge enough for two people to be inside it before I thought of Logan. Then, I instantly blushed before I was shaking my head, stepped inside the shower and opened the faucet. I sighed with content as I was rubbing the lukewarm water onto my skin. I was breathing deeply before I was looking at the wet tiles.

I cannot believe this. The fact that my parents were gone forever and I was left alone with the man that I just married as a part of an agreement between him and my father. I washed my hair before I was looking around for a shampoo. There was none beside the one that Logan used, Herbal Essence. I took some of it and lashed it to my hair.

I was combing through my hair with my fingers as the foam was forming on my hands and hair. I was sighing before I rinsed it and then I was looking for a conditioner. Which was located next to the shampoo.

It would seem that Logan O’Sullivan was very particular with his hair.

I put the conditioner on and leave it for 3 minutes. In the meantime, I pumped some body wash and I washed my body. I closed the faucet as I was trying to save water in every way I could. Our usage of water has been exponential every year. So, it would be a good practice to do as such.

After that, I rinsed off every soap that I have on my body before I was closing the faucet for the last time. I went out of the shower and took a fluffy towel before I dried myself up. I was looking at the mirror that was foggy before I wiped it.

My eyes was looking at the person with blonde mane and blue-green eyes. But all I can see was the hair that I inherited from my mother and the eyes that my father used to wear. I was touching my reflection on the mirror before my eyes stung.

‘Mammy, Daddy,’ I whispered before I closed my eyes and wimped like a girl that I was. I never cried for anyone but the fact that my parents were gone and I haven’t been seeing them for the longest time, it really hit me hard.

Then, there was a knock on the door.

‘Nora, are you okay?’ Logan asked before I was breathing heavily. I took a deep breath as I was wiping my cheeks when the door suddenly opened and a disheveled Logan entered the bathroom. I glared at him before I was crossing my arms in front of my chest.

‘Can I have at least a moment to myself, Logan? I cannot take it that you are bursting into the room every time I was in there,’ I said as I was trying to toughen myself up. Logan was looking at my face before his turquoise eyes were looking at me up and down.

Then, I realized that I was only in my towel.

‘Will you please looking at me like that?’ I hissed at him before I was trying to conceal my body, with the limited cloth AKA my towel. Logan smirked at me before he was crossing his arms as well.

‘It’s not like anything I wouldn’t know. Besides, I had a lot women before I tied myself to you so it was nothing at all,’ he said before I was glaring murderously at him. I rolled my eyes before Logan cleared his throat.

‘And I have to burst in since you have been taking for so long to shower that makes me wonder what are you doing in here?’ he said as Logan was arching his eyebrow at me. I was furrowing my eyebrows as I don’t understand what he was asking of me.

‘Whatever,’ I said before I was passing him as I was making my way out of the bathroom. Then, Logan was smelling my hair before he stopped me.

‘Well, this is a very interesting scent you have. I wonder where you have got it,’ he teased me as I was trying to get out of his grip. I was clicking my tongue when Logan released his grip on me.

‘I found it on the cabinet so might as well use it since I have nothing of my toiletries here. I hope you don’t mind,’ I said as I was batting my eyelashes at Logan, ‘since you are eager to have me to live with you as soon as we got married before I can take my stuff back at my apartment,’ I said before I was leaving him alone in the bathroom, not wanting to know what he will be looked like under all those clothes once he was naked.

Damn my dirty mind!

*****

I saw the nightgown that was left on the bed before I put it on and instantly went under the cover. I was exhausted to the bones and I just wanted to sleep right now. I sighed before I pulled the warm, fluffy blanket under my chin as I was looking at the ceiling before I rolled onto my side as I was thinking about my next step.

What should I do now that I have told Logan that I will be wanting to find out who was the killer. What if my first theory was right? That Logan asked someone to kill my father so that it will be him to control all the shares?

But I crossed that theory immediately from my mind when I know Logan was not that kind of person. He showed it to me today when he took care of my wound. I sighed before I closed my eyes and in less than a second, I was claimed by the sleep.

It was all blood, red and crimson. Some were sticky to her hands and some were on her clothes. She turned to look around before she saw the man that started them all. He has black hair and green eyes.

She gritted her hands on the floor before she stood up on her two feet, wobbling a little bit but otherwise, she was ready to attack him again.

“Why have you come here? What do you want?” she asked with a hiss as she was clutching to her side, the part where the red, crimson blood was oozing off from her body. She can feel that she was swaying before the man in front of her chuckled lowly.

“Ah, my dear sister-in-law, I must say, Luc did nothing spectacular that marrying you. It makes me want you to be mine. All mine,” he said before she laughed at him.

“I beg you to try,” she spit at him before the man just smirked at her, the darkness that was surrounding him was absolute.

Damn, she was doomed.

“Now that you ask me to try, I could not help but to give my best, Cornelia,” he said before Cornelia was gasping for air, gripping the hidden knife that Ezekiel held against her stomach before she was looking at Luc, with his blonde hair and red eyes calling after her.

Logan O’Sullivan’s POV

I was looking at the road that was empty since it was 8 AM and Nora was eager to get to the police station. I sighed as I was driving her there. I know that Nora has her own driver’s license but I was afraid that she would take off and leave me stranded for I cannot let that happened.

Not when everything was at stake.

‘I hope you have everything that you need to tell Detective Grant. It would be a shame if he asks anything that you cannot provide,’ I said as I was looking at Nora briefly. She was staring out the window and she seemed in her own thoughts right now.

‘Nora?’ I asked her as I touched her knee. She jerked away from my touch before I pulled my hand back. I can feel the warmth of her skin as I was gripping the steering wheel now.

‘What?

‘I hope you’ve everything for the report. Detective Grant is the best in town and I am sure he will be happy to help you out immediately if he was not busy on the current case,’ I said before I was remembered the friendship of this mortal human that I was reincarnated into before I shook that thought away.

‘Don’t worry. I got it everything in here and they don’t just call me Novice Nora for nothing,’ she said smugly before I shrugged as I parked in front of the police station as Grant was coming out of the building. I got out of the car before the Irish lad was greeting me with his freckled smile and all.

‘Logan O’Sullivan. You came early,’ he said as we shook hands and exchanged pleasantries. I rubbed my neck before I turned to look at Nora who was coming at us. Now that I saw her early in the morning with the fact that she was wearing blouse and a pencil skirt that really showed off her legs, I felt like I wanted to ask to change.

But it was too late for Grant must catch her coming at us now.

‘Well, I don’t believe we’ve met before. The name’s Darren, Miss…”

‘McCarthy. Well, it’s O’Sullivan now but not officially until we got our marriage certificate,’ Nora said as she was slipping her hand onto mine. Grant blinked his eyes before he set his professional persona back in, knowing that we were on business trip.

‘I see. And I supposed you have something to tell about your parents’ tragic death then? My condolences,’ Grant said before I was nodding at him.

‘Shall we?’ I asked him before Grant ushered us into the building as I noticed Nora was gripping my arm for support.

Good thing I was there, right?
