Chapter 24
I look at him, confused and still shaken. “W-w-what do you mean? Dante, what was that dream? Did that happen? You killed all those people?” He rubs my arms, shushing me, trying to calm me down. “Breath, don’t get yourself worked up; you’ve been out for a long time. You need to regain your energy.”
Out? Oh right, the curse, my hands go to my neck. “Is it gone? Did you get rid of it?” He nodded. “Did it transfer to you? Are you okay?” Dante shakes his head. “Naila, please stop asking so many questions. No, it didn’t get to me. Are you hungry?” As if answering his question, my stomach growls.
“I’ll help you shower since I know your body is weak; you’ve been out for two months.” I stand up slowly, whoa my legs feel weird. He helps me to the bathroom and runs the bathwater putting a lavender bubble bath in it. “This will help you relax.”
He strips me and gently places me in the tub. It feels terrific on my skin, and I breathe deeply. Dante grabs a loofa and scrubs my body, not missing a spot, his eyes are dark, but he controls himself.
After my bath, I am dressed and seated on the bed. Dante brings me light food, chicken noodle soup with some crackers. “So, what have you been doing for the last two months?” As I look closely at him now, his face is a bit rough, like he hasn’t shaved in a while. “When I wasn’t with you, I was tracking Draco. Adria didn’t mention you going into a coma, so I was mad at her for that.
Your blood gave me a mean ass boost, but I haven’t the time to use it. Adria is going to come and talk about how we can keep your mothers power at bay.” He brought a spoon of soup to my mouth. “Dante, I can feed myself….” He growls, not taking no for an answer. I meekly eat, letting him feed me. The fuck is wrong with him?
“It’s called Truths Eye. It allows you to see into a person’s soul and live moments like them. You don’t want to see into my soul; I won’t let you, I can’t expose you to that. I don’t know how you got in, but you can’t go back, Naila. I can’t let you see that side of me, and just a glimpse almost fucking broke you. If Draco finds out you have your mother’s power….” He grits his teeth, gets up, and leaves the room.
Later on, Adria comes with a very pissed-off Dante. “Hey girl, how are you feeling? Dante told me about your new ability.” I smile softly at her, “Why is he so mad?” She at him and then back at me. “He is just a little worried about you. Now I am not sure how your ability got activated, so I am not sure how I can help you control it.” She is talking to me from a distance. “Why don’t you guys just quarantine me off since it’s so damn contagious.” I scowl.
“That doesn’t sound like a bad idea. But my soul should be the last thing you would want to look into.” I jerk my head toward Adria. “What about her?” I was getting annoyed now. Adria shakes her head, she starts to talk, but it fades away. The last thing I hear is Dante yelling, “Fuck, I think it’s happening again!”
I am running. I don’t know if someone is chasing me, but I know where I want to go. I had to see her and make sure that what I heard wasn’t a lie; I needed to make sure. She was sitting in the middle of the garden at his house, that motherfuckers house. Why was she there? I approach her “Lily, what are you doing here?” She looks up at me, shocked, and then fear crosses her face. “D-Dante, what happened? Why are you covered in blood?”
I stop in front of her. “Did you use me for that man? Lily, you said you loved me.” The color drains from her face. “D-Dante, it’s just I can’t go against my true mate. I’m sorry, I am so sorry I betrayed you.” Something inside me snapped. “I almost got my best friend killed.”
I gripped her by her neck, squeezing. “Dante…please… d-don’t.” All I felt was rage, heartbreak, and anger. I lifted her off the ground and used my free hand to rip her heart out. Everything else happened so fast; the house that they shared was burned to the ground, her whole bloodline, as well as his, no longer existed. But nothing was soothing the rage that was boiling in my veins.
“Naila! Get yourself together!” I heard Adria call out to me, and I finally came to. “What just happened?” I look around to see that I am back in the castle, back in my body. I still felt angry; I could still feel his hatred and rage. “Where is Dante?” Adria shakes her head. “He told me he had to go. I don’t know where he went. He just took off. He said he had to get away from you.” She is lying.
“Adria, I know you are lying, bring him here, or I will go find him myself.” Her eyes widen. “That Command Voice is no joke.” She leaves, and moments later, a seething Dante enters the room. “Naila, you have to stay away from me. I can’t let you see anymore.” I stand up barely and motion for him to come. “Dante, come over here.”
I was pretty still enraged. Dante walks over to me, and I wrap my arms around his neck. “I am so sorry; you had such a hard time in the past. I am so sorry you had to go through all that heartache and betrayal. I know you don’t want me to see, but me seeing lets me see you, and to me, you are just you. Just Dante.”
He slowly wrapped his arms around me. “I didn’t want you to see me in those days; I also didn’t want you to feel my pain. I was in so much pain. I thought I couldn’t escape. I thought it would scare you away, and I didn’t want to lose you. Naila, you mean everything to me now, and that is a scary feeling knowing the kind of danger you are in and how much more danger I am putting you in just for being with me.”
I look up at him, and I can see the pain in his eyes, the conflict. All I could do was kiss him, kiss him with everything I had. I poured my heart and soul into the kiss, and Dante kissed me back with the same emotion; it felt like we were in our little world.
For the next few weeks, Dante had me in the gym to regain the strength in my legs. “I can’t walk anymore. Just leave me behind, sergeant!” I lay on the ground dramatically rolling. “Is this a joke to you?” He lifts me and carries me back to our room. “While you were poking in my past, I got some intel on Draco.”
I stretch on the floor. “And?” He rolls his eyes. “And he is looking for people like you, but on a much smaller scale, he is preparing himself for something. Not to sound cocky, but I think he intends on becoming stronger so he can take me down.” He did say he wanted to kill Dante right before my eyes. “Hey, why did Draco call me his...please don’t say something like he might have been another one of my mates.”
Dante pursed his lips. “I don’t even want to think about him even being a possibility. You belong to me, Naila.” Again with the possessiveness of Dante. I blush and stand up. “What do you plan to do?” Dante walks up to me, completely ignoring my question. “Say it, Naila, say you belong to me,” I smirk. “What happens if I don’t?” He squeezes my cheek. “Don’t fuck with me, Naila. Say you belong to me.”
He growls in my ear. “Okay, bossy, I belong to you, Dante Cane, and only you.” He leans in and kisses me roughly. “Good, as long as you remember that.” I roll my eyes. “So, what do you plan to do?” Dante runs his fingers through his hair.
“Right now, nothing. I have to make sure you are back on track; once you are fully trained, we will go to him.” That does make sense, and together we should be able to take him on. I nod and then strip. “Going to take a quick shower.” He seemed lost in thought but nodded, acknowledging me.
